Tead's Indoor-ish, Winter, Hempy, OGK, SOG

I put this out on Sue's thread because I would assume it sees more eyes...

If you're running from a storm and need to land someplace with room for a plant and some lighting, consider Tead's hooch. It's not much and you'll be couch surfing at best, but a soft couch beats a car seat any day.
Tead's door is always open to souls in need of harbor in rough waters.

The dance ahead of you is not enjoyable. Tead can offer words of advice and support. Please feel free to bend my ear about any issues you may encounter in the coming days/weeks/months.

May your return be soon!

Let's say my friend happens to have a tube just like this with a cap, perlite, and a nice drain hole. And they wanted to grow an autoflower in an indoor environment of 80-82 day and 65-70 night.

How much osmocote+ should they sprinkle in with the perlite?

I'm assuming they will start their autoflower in perlite without osmo+ so the seedling won't get nute burn and then replant. I'm not really sure how they will manage an autoflower in a hempy with time release nutrients.

P.S. May your generous offer of a couch to crash on (a safe haven in a storm) be well rewarded.

Let's hope nobody has a reason to take me up on the offer.
I see the storm's track is changing a bit... driving right up the west coast of FL. It's gonna hit different people now... perhaps folks that have a better experience base dealing with storms.
Unfortunately, that means it's gonna be floating over some very warm waters. Bad juju at best.

I'll bet your friend has a 12" 6L piece of PVC with a nice hole in it already. Tead's been floating in the 18 grams of Osmocote+ (be sure to get the '+' stuff... it has micros) for his 6L pots. Started at 15g.. currently testing as high as 22g... 18g is my current baseline.

This year was my first dance with autos. I did some DDAs and some SSDCs. Both did awesome. I see no real difference between autos and photos in hempy pots. I'll be doing more autos when seed popping weather arrives.

Side auto note... I got a seed out of a DDA. Surely pollinated by a photo. Wonder what will come out of that one. Should be fun!

Hey thanks, you kind soul.

You are spot on with guessing a 12" 6L piece of PVC with a nice hole in it. You must be psychic. Living in New Orleans seems to make all the locals psychic.

I was in a store with Osmocote+ two days ago but didn't think to look for it when I was there. (I was distracted. There was a 7.5 foot fountain, larger than my 6 foot fountain - momentary fountain envy.) I checked online and the store has it. 18g of Osmo+. Got it. Thank you.

I'm guessing your DDA was fathered by a Carnival (New Orleans, Carnival, get it?) The whole family loves Carnival. It's the first strain I'm regrowing two at a time instead of one at a time.

I will be trying a Dark Devil Auto (DDA) seed soon. My concern (I mean my friends concern :cough:) is seed popping in perlite. I could start in the 6L hempy, but I'm concerned about nute burn. I could start in a fast food cup and transplant except I'm concerned about the reported 'taproot-hits-the-bottom-and-flowering-starts' issue with autoflowers.

One can always hope that the Ruderalis genes from the mother are strong enough to auto the cross. When you pop it, give it plenty of root room.

I did have an auto Polar Express that got seeded by a mystery Sativa, but the mother never DID act like an Auto. I had to switch her to get her to flower. She was a big, thick-stemmed lady, with 8" wide leaves. Very Indica!

I haven't tried any of the seeds yet. But I WILL follow my own advice, and plant the seeds in their big girl pots.

That's a very generous offer for any displaced humans and vegetation! Let's hope that there is no need for the shelter.

That Lemon OGK really got away from you it looks like. He was taking full advantage. Looks like he didn't convince you to start a breeding program. Off with his head!

Thats what they are working with with these fast plants. They don't add enough auto flower to it to amke it a auto, But it;s suppose to shave a week off flower time. I think they just made a longer veg time of a auto. Mine started flowering a week or two before my photos. And I harvested 3 weeks before the end of my season. So it is fast. What I want to do is try one inside this winter, and time it. I've never had a photo finish By Sept 4th,, unless it was a auto. Hey people like that smoke from these CKS I tied this year.. Nothing big but I did harvest 6 or 7 of them allready. They tried to bred the auto down to about 12% of the parents. Gl. If that seed makes a nice plant you should try back crossing it with another photo and youd be down to 33% I think??? GL and them is pretty purples..... Keepem Green

The hempy that I I have growing from seed was started in a small rock wool cube. If your friend has any small cubes that would be the way to go. It's turned out ok so far but it is a photoperiod strain. When I transplanted to the perlite the roots had barely grown beyond the cube.

I started mine in a plug and planted it as soon as soon as it came up. Hmmm.... hadn't considered the challenge of starting in a solo and getting the transplanting timed correctly, before the aggressive tap root hits bottom. :hmmmm: I like to start mine in vinegar bottles, which are low and wide. That didn't seem to slow down my DDA that I grew hempy. She gave me over two ounces, if I remember correctly.

I'm sure once they start blooming you can transplant them into something bigger and it wouldn't slow them much, if at all. The deeper you go the more challenge it is for tiny roots to survive. The perlite wicks most efficiently at a max of about 8". 12" is a good depth for finishing out once they have enough roots to be in that 8" range.

Tead, I'm starting to sound like I know what I'm doing with hempy. :laughtwo: This is great fun. Thank you again for inspiring me. :hugs:

Thanks for your replies :).

I've decided to run a Carnival clone for my first hempy. That way, I can make a good side by side comparison of flavor and potency. Well - the family can. I'm still not smoking very often

I hear ya... it's a real concern on my part. I address the issue by putting about 2/3 of the Osmo+ in the bottom 1/2 of the pot and spread the last 1/2 thru the upper 1/2 of the pot. This gives a lower nute load when the plant it young. A seed MIGHT be ok in that mix. You might start it in a smaller container with a tiny load of Osmo+ and up pot it before the roots hit the bottom of the smaller container. Perlite to perlite replanting is super easy and often the plants don't seem to notice.

I didn't want to start mixing with unknown genetics. On hindsight, I'm sorry I cut him.

I'm quite happy about that configuration. Your turn to climb shoulders for a bit. My general interest seems to be waning lately and I'm super pleased to see such a friendly soul carrying the torch.

Let's do a UD Boom harvest... shall we? 24" pot... way too big for my world.... good thing she was a stumpy girl and bending the top spike down worked very well.

Post major fan leaf removal. You can see the top spike bend really well in the first shot.

I've noticed you backing off a bit. These things run in cycles. No worries.

Thanks for sharing this. Too bad this has to be a big girl in your world. She's a tasty size. Beautiful girl.

Auto taproots grow amazingly fast. If you start in solo cups, you have about a week to get that lady transplanted into her big girl pot. The pic below is an auto that pushed it's taproot out of the peat plug within days of planting. I used the collar method to funnel water to the young plant in the final pot, then gently removed the collar after about a week, because by then, the roots were already below the cut-out bottom of the solo cup.

So I had to drop by and thank you for the love a month or two back. My tent is looking nice full of Tead's genetics. Still have on UD clone left to flip, I am waiting to see how these clones I took from Kali AK and Crit + come out then I will take some clones from the UD. Want to get some smoke reports from each strain before I stop cloning them. I have some of that Super Sour Lime that will be ready for flip shortly, I know you have seeds, but if you want a clone, let me know.

Here is a Mephisto ManBearAlienPig Auti started in a rooter plug and put into a 2.5 gallon bucket and watered every third day or so straight down till she took off. Then nutes as usual.
She is just six weeks old. Sprout to finish is supposed to be a 75-90 days, so halfway there.

This works amazingly well. My largest DDA was collared like this, not for this purpose, but rather to eliminate some lankiness in stature, but the resulting massive roots that built up in that collared area surprised me.

Rad, I'd consider this for your auto seeds.

Yep, looks like a girl with 35-40 days left (if she were a hybrid or indica dom photoperiod.) Nicely done.
That's a big hempy pot :)

I'm going to try a hempy, I'd rather not add height for water to climb on my first hempy grow.

I was going to start a Carnival in the hempy, but I forgot and put my rooted clone into a soil pot Friday.
I took another Carnival cutting yesterday for the hempy pot.

What water PH would y'all recommend for a perlite hempy with osmocote+ ?
