Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

Ok, I had to post this... look how much darker this cob got. This was after I sealed it back up after letting it dry for 3 hours after the fermentation stage... let it sit around 75-78f for 24hrs in my dark closet. My wife saw it and ask... Is that thing ok? I said I sure hope so, as I day dreamed of a sample in a week or three.

This first pic is BEFORE I opened it to dry after ferment

This pic is after I resealed and let it sit 24hrs.

I just put it back where it was and will leave it alone. I did not open it, I want to let it cure for a few weeks first.

@dajerm119 very nice. I love how they get darker during the first few days.

Here's my Zamaldelica cob. Left it flowering for just 15 weeks and with my cold temps it was dark to start with.

First pic is just after the initial sweat. The rest were taken a day later.

Can't wait to try them. I'll be 60 this coming April so i hope they will be well cured by then.

Peace

I cant believe how well you are doing man your going to be good at this I can see that.
Those are perfect examples of how to do it hats off my friend . I cant wait to hear your opinion on the end product.
Thank you Tangwena:Namaste: Could not have done this without your help! You know i'll be back to post my thought on these cobs!

Thanks Pyro! Oh man... that is beautiful. I would say by April they will knock your socks off! Great work!

April sounds just about right. Happy 60th!

That is one of the darkes cobs I have seen. How long did you sweat for?

Yes they are very dark. They were quite fresh to start with only drying for less than 2 days in a cold shed
I sweated them for around 30 hours in total. The first few hours they were left to warm up just on a radiator in my kitchen while i finished making an arduino controlled heater for my cobatron. I don't think they got too hot. Once i got that working I left them sweat for around 20 hours, noticed they were still very wet so opened the cobs and gave them a quick wipe then left them for around another 7 hours at 40C.
My fermenting temps now are between 27C and 30C. Another 3 or 4 days should do it.

Hi my friend you need to dry that baby a bit until its dry to the touch or it may over ferment and loose the nice terps.
Good news is it will still get you high.
Those dark ones are harder to finish properly you need to remove a lot of moisture now before sealing it up again.
If you get it right its going to scare the shit out of you dont smoke alone or especially alone in the dark ha ha.

...I had a couple of cobs that were still quite wet after a week of ferment, so I put them in the dehydrator for an hour or so at 105F( unsealed)...seemed to do the trick, when I inspected a few weeks later...won't see them again till April, but looking forward to it...cheerz...h00k...:rollit::passitleft:...

Good monrng err body...
Hope y’all are staying warm through this polar vortex
Just thought I’d post a few pics
Just to try to clarify....
While a oz or more is recommended to cob cure
I am doing the small cobs (15 grams or less)
So instead of a week of fermenting, I checked after 3 days.
I removed the string and the corn husk.
There was a sorta sweet smell so l inspected with a loop ( no mold)
Let both out air for 30 min or so
Then revaccumed sealed without the corn shucks.
And back into my mini cob cureing unit. (Ccu)
Yep
That’s a stand made of Legos (thanks kids!!!) for holding the cobs above the heat pad.

Just awesome.... love the look, gonna be fun times there!

Well I’m hoping so.
My first cob was ok, but not great.
After further investigation ( okok after much trying to remember through the fog)
I came to the conclusion that I over fermented it, then quick dried it ( totally dry) and didn’t cure it. But it was still ok.
Hopefully paying a little more attention to these ones reaps me a better return.
Thanks to all

Thanks for the advice as usual @tangwena , they were pretty touch dry I'd say, I think the flash on my camera was making them look wetter then they really were. I took them out a few hours ago to dry some more, and they seem a good bit lighter in colour now, so these pics are 3 days more of fermentation @ 27-29C after my previous ones.

I have 2 cobs, the 2nd one wouldn't stick together for me so I found an old dried corn cob leaf and wrapped it in that.

Once fermentation is over in a few more days I might just take those loose bits as a sample :smokin2:

:Namaste:

Ok Just starting the 3rd week of the CURE

Started with 28 Grams

Here is a picture of my AIR DRY. I use a GRAIN Scale since Its so sensitive I can actually
watch the Pointer move in real time as it drys.

Looks like I am LOOSING from 0.5 to 0.8 Grams in the vacuum seal over a 7 day period.

I open the sealed bag and weigh, set the Scale weight to 0.5 GRAMS less and wait for the
pointer to reach ZERO, At 70F and 56RH This takes approx 1 hr. to loos 0.5 Grams.

TOGETHER with the week in the bag and 1hr dry I am loosing approx 1 GRAM A week

this week after dry and Pre seal I was Sitting at
237.5 GRAINS or 15.389741 GRAMS (TOTAL loss to this point is 12.611 Grams)

Looks like I am stabilized at 1.0 Gram loss a week so once I start the final dry I should
be very close to 1/2 weight loss

@Gazoo, my entire cellular community alpplauded that post. God .... I adore that detail-oriented brain of yours. :hugs:

I really appreciate that the assembled team is so delighted in the details. The more we track it the faster we'll learn to manipulate cobs for our personal preferences. It saddens me a little that my national forest evolved into one tent with a mere pair of flowering beauties, limiting my personal cobbing experiences just as I discovered them.

I'm living vicariously through all of you. :hugs:

The sampling along the way is part of the trip.

Amen to that. :thumb:

As am I. Reading journals is fun, just to keep track, sometimes, lol. Can make plans for harvest time next year.
