Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

I see this printed on some bottles of Kombucha at the store: “Fermentation is an art so slight, that variations should be celebrated.” And I always think of cobs when I see it:p how can I not!

I think you’re onto something there... time, temperature, moisture of the produce, all these will create variations. And I’m sure there’s more ways to vary it as well... very cool.

That is beautiful! Moisture is very important for fermentation, and actually lower than optimal moisture promotes mold. So it needs to be really wet, then the week of slow drying with a careful eye on it, then really dry for storage.

Some fun stuff at this site that ALMOST resembles cob fermentation.

Words of wisdom my friend its an art and only an artist can produce the best art.
Plenty of artists on this thread though awesome cobs on 420 these days.

Welp
I’ve 3 towels on it now and that’s pushing the space.
But....
The temp made it up to 102.5
I’m sure it’s a ambient air thing cuz it went higher during the day.
But Im thinking ( beware stoner science...) that as long as it sweats, then the 80 degree ferment is more important.
The next planting will be all sativia ( Jack Herer, lemon haze, and nebula haze)
I’m not really gonna worry as long as there are some water drops when I unseal in s few hours....
Tonight it’s going to be a gg4 cob
(Small time farmer all I got)
But while only 10 gram wet weight gonna spark it up with some kief...
Ok......
Lots of kief.
I’ll try to take picks tonight.....

How much do I love your kief inclusions? This much...:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Well okey then...
Yes
The kief loads should be interesting.
I’ve had so much kief laying around because I was “planing” on makeing MOONROCKS with it.
But then I ran across the cob cure and the plans changed.....
So
The 24 hour vac sealed sweat of NYD x PH had lots of moisture but
The bag ballooned to more than twice it’s size but the seals seemed secure.
Is ballooning normal????
Thanks!!!

It’s gasses being released. I’ve had the bag poof a little, but nothing close to ballooning. That must be one righteous cob. :D

Do you have a picture?

Not the best pics as they were took last night late after a day of grilling steaks, ( 2 inch thick rib eyes)
drinking wine ( merlot)
And entertaining my new Grav lab bong....
It was really ballooned out when I first took it out but deflated a bit by time I had the sense to grab my camera.....

Dont worry a friend of mine and maker of fine fine cobs uses a crock pot to sweat his cobs and the temps are quite high even on the lowest setting.
His balloon all the time but shrink back on removal from the heat source. I personally think its water vapor but could be gasses also that re condense after the package is removed and cools so all is good dont sweat it (pun intended) its all good my friend.

I was concerned using my little crock pot because of the high temps, but this doesn’t hurt them?

Same here Pax. I used my heaviest towels. Once I got it to temp it maintained nicely. The dehydrator made this step so much easier.

What the sweat is meant to do is jumpstart the fermentation process, so if you got moisture and you got the shift to sweetness in smell you’re on your way IMO, and can jump into fermenting.

Welcome aboard Pax. You thought you knew cannabis. Prepare to be surprised. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

D-A-A-M-N! drift..... well done buckaroo. :high-five: I’m assuming you’ve tasted at least one bit by now? So....?
Not yet Sue like wine better to wait, plus I have a ton from last harvest.

Of course it will have some effect but none that my friend notices and people who have tried them all say its dynamite so I guess it cant hurt.
Every variation in moisture and temps ect must have some effect just not negative to your high experience, it just changes taste smell and effect.
Everybody will have slightly different results, each cob will be unique even from the same plant and same curer.
Thats one of the beauties of this method. If you are artistic and have a feel for this process you will make cures that cant be reproduced by anyone even yourself if you dont pay close attention to your process and keep good records.

Heres a few pics of the Destroyer cobs...
The smell is so nice and sweet... I swear I could pick up a hint of licorice on the lighter colored one. The darker one has a deep almost fruity, sweet smell... very divine.
Can hardly wait to try some of each, but I am practicing patience...
I took them both out of the bags, I let the smaller lighter colored one dry about an hour, and the dark one about 3 hours cause its so moist. Then resealed each and putt in my closet at around 75f for the next few weeks. I will check them every few days or so to make sure they are still sealed up.

Sorry the pics suck, I will try and get into some better lighting next time.
