Tangwena's Malawi-Style Cob Cure: Fermented Cannabis

I was thinking, what would happen if one were to cross the old school Thai stick method with this one and made a new hybrid method?

I had the day off yesterday and went to a childhood friends birthday party. It was a pool party with live music and catered food. At least 1/2 the crowd was older and mostly professionals, lawyers and executives. You know I had to test the cobs on them.....

I rolled 2, 1 gram joints, 1 of Malawi x Panama and 1 Carnival. The M x P is at 4 weeks and the Carnival is at 6. My buddy and I started by getting the bartenders high and I mean high not stoned. Then we let whoever wanted to smoke have some. The M x P burned so slow we were all higher than kites from 1pm until 10 pm and there was still 1/2 the Carnival joint left when I went home. That gram and a 1/2 got and kept about 10-15 people high all day. The compliments never stopped coming. I heard over and over how this is what it was like when I was young. I also got a lot of "hey how much would a little baggie of that stuff be? That's the best weed I've smoked in my life." I never went into details about cobbing but did say I was experimenting with different drying and curing techniques. I think a few of them are ruined for smoking their regular flower now. It was a great time and big thanks to Tangwena for bringing us this method and Sue for pushing me to try it. :thanks:

MJ, those look fantastic. Did you ever come down?
I had a great day with the cob effect yesterday. Let me say that my preferred method of getting cannabinoids into my body is smoking. Oral ingestion is quite different and very powerful to the point that my control is eliminated in that equation. But for the most part I thorough enjoy getting high even through chewing cob or eating a brownie. It's just that the timing must be right or I'll also be a little frustrated when I've lost my ability to drive.

Yesterday's journey was a bit trippy about 2 hours in but I didn't prepare myself well. I hadn't eaten breakfast and I didn't maintain some extra hydration. You really should drink some extra water during cob chewing/ingestion. After I had lunch I finished my chew and the effect became very narcotic and I slept for almost an hour between 3 and 4 pm. I smoked a bowl of Blue Dream shortly after that and I leveled out a bit. I had started at 10 am so it lasted a good 6 hours. I could still feel little tremors in my arms into the evening.

Throughout I had no pain and colors outdoors were clear and lively. I did not learn the mysteries of the universe but did manage to remember to water my plants last night. All is well this morning with Chemdawg back in my wake and bake pipe. :bongrip:

Look Jim, we opted for the same amount. :battingeyelashes: We think alike, you and I. Lol!

Let me know how that went. I'll probably be smoking the rest of my cobs. :bongrip:

I have a Zamaldelica x Panama coming along. This one's strictly for cobbing. Listening to you I get more excited about the prospects. Lol!

Is that a pheno I should really watch you grow or a different one?

Outstanding report! These cobs get my brain stimulated. After my accident I lost my memories. It's been 6 month's. The doctors told me if I didn't get my memory back in 6 month's I probably won't. I'll have to live my life in a two week sliding window. When you said, you had no pain, and colors outdoors were clear and lively. It just hit me, I may have some hope. May sound funny, but I don't want to be on 50 first dates forever. Hearing peoples experiences and the knowledge of how to do this may help. Trying new strains helps. I'd give anything to remember my past, even if it was painful, right now I feel nothing. ES

hey everyone I haven't been live on here but I have been lurking here every now and then and I have seen these cobs all over and I have heard nothing but praise so I decided to try making one I used some mephisto sour hound for my first run I only had 21 grams of it so its small its cooking rite now 104 24 hrs.,I also wanted to thank tangwena and sue for making this happen always looking for a way to make it better, ill come back with a report when its done hope everyone has a nice day!:)
oh heres a pic of my first cob!

I prefer to think there's always hope. I too have lost memories. :bongrip:

This brought a big smile to my face Jim. All the rest is sweet too, but your finding pain relief is what I really like to hear. :hugs:

I understand the need to take a day off with cobs. Lol! We're not completely acclimated yet. Lol!

I'll wait until tomorrow to chew it Scottay is stopping to pick up his light and I don't think chewing a cob before I meet old/new friends is a smart move. I have been smoking the cob Jgrow loaded into the pipe yesterday and barely hit. If memory serves, this was from one of th Carnival cobs, but at the moment I'm having a hard enough time keeping focused enough to complete this post. Lol!

There! I got it done. :)

......Those sappy emoticons that came with this new platform suck. Just saying.

This is one I got from Morglie. I'm growing it hempy. I don't know that you'll learn anything new from watching her progress, but the gang that gathers around is always fun to talk to. :battingeyelashes:

I’m a heavy duty smoker and I can say that chewing cobs is a totally different worthwhile experience.

At about 9:00am I smoked a joint and chewed on a bit more than half a gram of 1024 cob for an hour then spit it out. Right at the three hour mark I got a hot flash and laid down outside on the hammock then got high AF. I felt whatever the opposite of paranoid is, maybe resigned or confident but those are not the right words exactly, maybe contentment.

I can’t say that colors were extra bright or anything visual but I did have super hearing. I could hear the neighbor’s breathing as he worked next door, and hear every single leaf on every single tree rustling in the wind. The symphony of bird song was amazing.

It wasn’t out of control like an acid trip (and I wouldn’t want it to be), but it’s a good and strong feeing not exactly a buzz, more like a soaring high. Nothing at all like eating edibles. Despite usually smoking joints all day I’m not a cloudy headed person but the day I ate the cob I was, I forgot my wallet, my keys, and even my shoes.

I smoked another joint and ended up at the bar (as I often do) and had a very weird and rare anti-social drinking session. It was crazy, I could clearly hear and understand every word of every conversation all at the same time, except ones people tried to have directly with me. I was too distracted by hearing every sound distinctly to pay attention to anyone talking to me. I stayed for a couple beers than went home to smoke a joint or two. I fell asleep about 7:30 and had one of the best nights sleep in months.

I don’t think I’ll be doing that again for a while, but will be trying it again. :cough:

Hahaha! Doob.... There were lots of birds to hear out there too. Lol!

I'm learning to pace myself, or at least I'm thinking about learning it  Smoking Carnival cobs is different from smoking Carnival flower. Tomorrow I'll dive right into chewing Carnival cob, and I'm going for a full 0.8 grams. :slide:

I like the way you described it as a soaring high. It's not the same buzz at all, and it feels marvelous. I just need to figure out my limits. Lol! Today, smoking the cob I keep losing track.

Hi Neiko thats music to my ears my friend. Another good cobber on a private forum went to a high end gathering of top dogs in the canna world. All the latest resin, oils you name it latest cuts ect.
He said he lit up a J of one of his many cobs and instantly had the attention of the hosts and ended up in the VIP lounge being plied with the best of everything they had ha ha.
Its your ticket to the front row seats brother enjoy.

@tangwena, Doob led me to another forum yesterday to glance through their cob thread. I followed their link back to the Reddit post OP'd found the information and then his link right back to you on IC mag. The trail went back about two years.

You my friend, are changing the world's perceptions about what euphoria can feel like, and your passion has infected the entire canna universe. One of the statements that stuck with me was "I'm seeing this start to take over jar curing."

I know that made a big smile spread across your face. :battingeyelashes::green_heart:

A friend gifted me with some Buffalato. This chemovar is the one that lights his body up, and I've decided to give it an honest try before I start chewing my 0.8 gram piece of Carnival cob. I'll be back with whatever I recollect.

.....Oh yeah.....the reason I stopped taking the bong rips....

I'd like an accounting - with pictures if you're so inclined - of how you store your cobs once you've gotten through the first month of cure. I'll post mine later, because I have this buzz to get back to and I don't know how functional I'll be later. :battingeyelashes: I was planning to keep them sealed in plastic, but then I have to open them all up.

Hmmm.... the problem for me arises from my lazy impatience and the fact that I haven't found a shelf space for the vacuum sealer, so I have to haul it out every time and then put it away. If I had a space for it to be sitting out this wouldn't even be a concern, would it?

I'll do that when I start chewing this morning's bit of Carnival bliss. :slide:

I'm still curious about storage.

And I love to see pictures. :battingeyelashes: years

I don't see any reason why cobbing shouldn't replace jar curing. I've been cobbing about 1/2 of all my harvests now and should do it all. I've got new strains that I've been sampling in flower form and they are great but they're not cobs :(.

I agree Sue, messing with that foodsaver gets old. I'm finding I have to change bags regularly because I can't get the bag to reseal. I try to open them once a week and cut a few grams for the week but I'm getting so many different cobs I can't do this anymore.

Also is it beneficial to open them at all in the 1st month of curing? I mean if I don't want to sample it is there any reason they need to be opened?

I have purchased the ziploc vacuum bags. They are reusable and do not have to be cut open, they zip open. And there is a small hand pump that is pretty easy to use. They come in all sizes, too. I started vacuum sealing every time I opened it to sample my wares, but I have neglected to vacuum seal a lot lately....

Anyways.... just my 2 cents....

Cheers,

Here is an update on Cob Central.

I opened my Ayahuasca Purple and Gigabud cobs. I stuck my nose in the bag as soon as it was opened and it was floral intoxication! I wish these pictures were scratch and sniff. Unbelieveable. They are definitely darker as they are curing, still pliable and fibrous. I cut a piece to sample later. Next grow probably 3/4 cobs and the rest jar cure. I am going to try a cob stick. Kinda like old school thai stick but using this method. I have been researching how folks do Thai stick these days, most don't have a clue. I think pretend Thai stick, lol. OK, here are the pictures.

Looking good Shaman. :high-five: How are you finding they effect you?

We did get spoiled pretty quickly, didn't we Neiko? :D

Opening them up weekly for the first month is to release the moisture slowly as they cure. The only way we'll learn if this is necessary is to try some without opening them. I wouldn't do that with freshly-harvested. What I learned from mine was to let it dry more than I was when they were opened.

I have some of the ziploc bags but I lack the adapter. That's something to add to my Amazon order this month. I think they may be the way to go.

We're all gonna end up with a sh**load of cobs to choose from. That makes storage more challenging without something easy to use. The FoodSaver sells storage containers too. That might be an option for cobs you want daily access to. I'll have to pick some up and try. They won't be as oxygen free as the bags, but they may be good enough for daily use.

Is anyone storing cobs in jars with Bovedas?

Hi Sue as always you have a feel for this and great intuition.
Once the aging process is over to your satisfaction and you are happy with the effects they can be dried fully and stored in zip lock bags or jars with boveda packs just as you would store any dried product.
They store easily for years once they are dried with no chance of mold unless they get wet.

However the aroma matures and is greatly reduced but not the effects happily.
The reason I keep them vac sealed after the 4 week cure is to retain the wonderful sweet fermented aromas in their pristine state.
If I am using a cob I will fully dry it as above.
I prefer to keep my cobs vac sealed and take half or quarters out and have a working jar with zip locked bags containing 1/4 ounce samples that is my go to stash.
As each sample is used up I replace it with a fresh aromatic slice from the mother cob as it were.
As you might expect over the years I have amassed quite a selection of cobs and have so many bags of samples i will never get to finish them let alone the cobs they came from ha ha.

Every now and then I have a clean out of old cobs and either make oil from them or give them away.
You will all be in this boat very soon I am sure.

A bit of history there are many different cobs and styles of curing in Africa not all good.
The style of cob we make is very hard to find in Africa these days but can be found if you have the right contacts.
I try to reproduce the best and most elite types that I came across while I lived there many years ago.

There are other types with different cure results that I am constantly trying to reproduce but am hampered by the availability of suitable buds and the fact that its still illegal here.
Believe me when I say that although this method faithfully reproduces one of the better cures there are still others you haven't seen that are just as mind blowing but in different ways.

I have friends locally that make great cobs and between us in the future hopefully we will get there but its a very slow process.
Just as hashish is made from the plant to better the end product so fermenting is used to better the end product the raw flowers are just that raw flowers.
