Tales From The Krip!

That trimmer looks pretty good but the buds in the video looked pretty well trimmed when he put them in there and seems like theyre dry. I like my new method which is pluck off the fans then give a quick trim, leaving most of the sugar leaves on. A lot of them come off in the jars and is some of the best product. Is the trimmer being used right before jarring? That could be a great way to collect the coveted sugar leaves!?!?

Let us know how you like it.

Great question, Brother! :thumb:

It actually comes with two blades. One is a wire blade and the other is a steel blade. The wire blade is for dry buds and the steel is for wet buds. However, I've read that it's best on the wet buds since the dry buds can take a bit of a beating, although, I imagine a slower spinning would help. My plan is to use on the wet buds. With the machine, you only need to remove the large fan leaves. The trim that collects in the bowl will be used for oil (along with some buds, I'm sure!). I really just want it to clean up the real shaggy/hairy smaller buds. It seems like about a minute's worth of work gets about an hour's worth of trimming done - and that's without pieces of herb ending up all over the room!

So will you dry on a rack or one of those hanging baskets (I have a few that I rarely use.) maybe low and slow? I'd be concerned about the buds drying out too quickly being off the stems but low and slow could work....?

:passitleft:

I was gonna' try the low & slow method since I keep hearing such great things about it. ;)

I have never tried mine with dry buds but the way the sugars curve around the buds I think it would make it harder. The only thing I intend on trimming off is the fans but sometimes I get zoned out and trim extra. But the trimmer does the sugars very well. You will find the sweet spot on the cranking that gets a good speed going on the blade... it doesn't take too many spins.
I personally find the sugars make the smoke a tiny bit harsher to smoke. So I trim them off and into the oil batch they go. Due to the fact I utilize almost all of the plant I don't mind popcorn and sugar leaves going in the oil batch. I want to smoke nuggets personally ;) But i know the sugars are packed with goodness!

Peace

So I use to hang the stocks like Ween. I liked the way the buds dried hanging. Now yes with the trimmer I use hanging baskets. My utility room is what I use to dry and I just keep the humidity @ 60 (small room) I put them in the baskets for a week. I rotate the produce in each basket daily. Usually within a week or 10 days they go into jars. Those i vent 20 min daily for a week or so. Then they in with my stock that gets vented 20 min a week but I put 55% humid packs in each jar.
That's it... Simple simple. I am all about that. I don't do the box trick etc. separate rooms etc. I have no issues with results etc...

Just my two bits.. it works for me.. But everyone does it a little different

Peace

Run the humidity up higher than normal by a skoche...

NEW DRY TENT & ISSUE TO OVERCOME

Since I'm planning on harvesting the Tut's on Friday, I wanted to get the new drying tent setup and see how/where I could squeeze it in.

It actually worked out pretty well considering there wasn't much space to work with.

Here's a pic of it next to the main/flower tent:

Instead of running a second fan & carbon scrubber, I just connected the drying tent to the main tent with some ducting out of the top of the drying tent so the air will be flowing up through the drying buds:

Here's a pic looking up to the top of the drying tent:

I'm very happy with the setup and, once this round is dried, I was planning on using it for a veg tent by just adding some lights since it gives me more vertical room. Then, I can use the existing veg cab for breeding, which would be perfect since it's on the opposite side of the house.

But, here's the issue....

When I was adding the dry net and some clothes hangers to the tent, I noticed this:

Light is being reflected by the metallic inside of the ducting!

It's not gonna make a difference for use as a drying tent, but when it comes to vegging in there, I can assume if light is being reflected from the flower tent to the veg tent, when I start hanging lights in the veg tent, it will be reflected back into the flower tent, and THAT will cause some problems in the flower tent!

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything that looked like appropriate non-reflective ducting (which, I'm surprised they don't make for us growers, BTW! :hmmmm:), and, while I haven't tried, I'm guessing even if I put some more bends in the ducting, the light is just gonna bounce off the inside walls and reflect back to the other tent.

So, before I can use the new tent for vegging while there are girls under 12/12 in the main tent, I'll need to make some sort of light block, or have to figure out some alternate solution for exhaust.

I'll have to start testing once all the produce is dry and out of there.

Happy Harvests!

DAY #61 OF 12/12 - PIC UPDATE

All the girls have packed on some good weight and all of them appear to be putting out foxtails. Last week, I waited a little too long to water the Blackwater and some of her larger fans got a little crispy but the buds still look incredible.

Here are some random shots:

NEW TRIMMER IS HERE! :yahoo:

The doorbell rang just as I finished that last update and it was the delivery of the new trimmer. It appears to be very solid with some good weight to it and the top is some durable polycarbonate plastic.

I'm not gonna put any of the top colas through there and most won't get/need much trimming, but I think it will work well for the lower/smaller stuff.

I'll post a review once I have a chance to test it!

Happy Harvests!

MrK :bravo:beautiful as always.. Trying to figure out a way to block lights, but can't. It is going to block airflow as well:hmmmm:
Trimmer:cheer:next round, SweetSue's trimmer service.. Think about it..:laugh:
I might join too :)

Looking great Krip! Looking forward to seeing how the trimmer works for you!

:ganjamon:
Plants are looking good bud! I have seen some ducting at lowes that was black see through plastic. I do not think that would reflect but you may see light through it in that room.

Thanks, all! :thanks:

For the "light trap", I'm thinking I can spray the inside of the ducting with a black spray paint and/or, I was even thinking about that "FlexSeal" product that forms a rubber coating. Still thinking about options.

That setup looks great and I may have a solution to your problem. You can buy mini intake filters for many applications which would attach to the duct blocking the light. These are not carbon filters more just a basic 4” or 6” duct filter that you can pickup for about 30$ from the local depot store.

You could also take a normal furnace filter place it across the top bars in your tent blocking that light penetration but allowing air flow through still. Couple ideas hopefully you can get it figured out!!
