Tales From The Krip!

Killing it with the small pots I see. Lucy looks good, lots of cool things happining at your place. I'm just trying to keep my ladies hydrated (40gal, (8X5gal) week of feed. Sucks, and most of my girls are in 3's. Good job with the LST'ing, looks to increase you yeild.

Cheers

Scary thing about the hermies you get from light changes is that it will pass the hermie trait down to the youngings.... Least my understanding. I won't grow seeds from this hermies, I've tried afew,, and the all hermied too.

I've read that from some growers, but have not really seen any science and, frankly, it does not make sense to me that this would be the case.

For example, let's assume I have a plant with sound genetics and not prone to hermie. I then make 5 clones of that plant, so all have identical genetics not prone to hermie.

Then, I stress out each of the plants: One with Gibberalic Aciid, another with Sodium Theosulfate, a third with Colloidal Silver, a fourth with PH stress, and a fifth with light stress.

Why would the pollen from the plant stressed with light have or pass genetics any more prone to hermie than the other plants/clones from the same group? :hmmmm::hmmmm::hmmmm:

This leads me to believe that this MAY be an "old wives tale" propagated by growers who had plants already prone to hermie and, when they did, most likely from light (it's hard to apply Colloidal Silver or STS by accident - light leaks are easy! :D ) the growers used the pollen and passed the trait from the plant that was genetically prone to hermie to the seeds.

How/why could light stress change the genetics?

That being said, most breeders would advise against any hermies and always opt for a true male x female cross, if possible.

NEW FLOWER TENT IS UP!

I got the new flower tent setup today, FINALLY!!!! :yahoo:

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it considering it was only about $100, all metal supports & braces, has a "view port" (which I'll likely never use, but who knows? :hmmmm: ),, and it seems light-proof.

I decided to order a 2nd Mars Reflector 144, instead of using the BlackStar. It hasn't arrived, yet, but here's the tent with just the one light hanging:

The ducting solution worked out perfectly, and actually looks pretty good:

I should have some plants in there by the weekend. :slide:

QUICK UPDATE

I checked the tracking on the new (2nd) Mars Reflector 144 and it was delivered - to someone else!!!

Mars did confirm the correct shipping address with me, so I'm guessing they just sent the wrong tracking# and hoping that light will show up here by Monday.

All the Mom's are doing great and, as for clones, all four of the BAK secondary toppings rooted, as did the initial topping of the Fruit Punch. I'm hoping to see roots on the Tut2 clone any day, now. It is the last clone I took, which was only a week ago; and it's about the healthiest looking clone I've seen, so I'm confident she's rooting, but nothing showing out of the cube, yet.

Any way you slice it, I'll have four fresh clones to start with and, assuming the Tut2 clone is successful, I'll be able to flower all three of the strains in the first round and it will be (2) BAK, (1) FP & (1) Tut. If, for any reason, Tut doesn't root, I'll just replace it with one of the other BAK's.

So, I transplanted the two strongest BAK and the FP clones into 1 gallon containers doing the @Doc Bud dusting with Roots (yes, Doc...they're in 1 gallon containers and not those "teensy weensy" ones! ;) ) then watering in with 1/4 strength transplant; and I have them in the tent under the LED with the Lucy-25 auto that's in flower.

I'll update with some pics over the weekend. In the mean time, I'll be here waiting on Tut2 to root!

VEG CABINET UPDATE

While I didn't take a pic of the whole veg cabinet, I currently have the four Moms including the BAK, FP, and two Tuts; plus three clones including the top from Tut #2 and two "backup" BAK clones just in case the Tut doesn't root (I'm 420% sure it will! ;) ). Everything is healthy and here's what they look like (backup clones not included!)...

The BAK, although you can tall from this pic, I've been calling "Batman" since it looks like a winged creature:

Tut #2 continues to impress with her vigor, which is another reason I really want to get her clone into flower on the first round:

I'm not as happy with the structure on the Fruit Punch. She received the same UBT as the the BAK and Tut but has spread out more without really filling out, yet. Hopefully this changes with more time and training:

And, for the last of the Moms, the Tut #1 that's been receiving torturous LST and has been pruned but not topped. You can see in the later pics how I'm basically wrapping her main stalk around that little 4" container; and, you can see how thick the stalk is getting as I'm doing it:

And, here's that Tut #2 clone. Like I said, it's about the healthiest looking clone I've seen considering it's now been 8 days since cutting, but no roots showing out of the cube yet:

Assuming I can get that Tut #1 top rooted and flower all three of the strains, the plan will be to continually replace the weakest of the strains with a new Mom so I always have my current "Top 3" on hand.

I'll get some pics of the flower tent later today although the only thing actually flowering in there right now is that Lucy-25 auto hanging out with three vegging freshly rooted clones.

Also, it turns out Mars did provide the wrong tracking# and that new light is due for delivery today! :yahoo:

Very nice. Im always impressed to see stout those little Tut plants are. A couple of mine have stalks that might be as thick as 2" on a plant that isnt 30 inches tall. Go Tuts!

FLOWER TENT UPDATE

The new Mars Reflector 144 came in today, so I hung it in the tent, but the girls aren't big enough to warrant running both lights right now. That being said, I am vegging the girls with the light in "Flower" mode, since I figured I'd give Lucy-25 the benefit of the additional spectrum.

Here's what the tent is now looking like:

Right now, we have the two BAK and one Fruit Punch Clone, plus the "mini" Lucy-25 auto I'm flowering at only about 12" tall. She's smelling mostly "piney" with some lemon-citrus background - very remniscent of a Lucy photo I grew several years ago:

Looks great man. That tent is killer

Looks great man. That tent is killer

Thanks, Bro! I'm happy just to finally have a grow back up after not being able to grow for over a year while the house was under construction. :yahoo:

Since my last flower tent was a 2' x 2' x 5' and I had a much larger carbon filter standing on the floor, this new tent gets me more than double the footprint (after hanging the fan/filter) and more than 20% more height, and I'm real happy to have that!

The tent itself I'm actually very impressed with for the money. I only spent $97.99 on that jungle site (although, I see the price went up $2 to $99.99!) and, in addition to the "front door" which also has a velcro viewport, both sides unzip to almost full length & width so it's easy to reach in (you could easily step in, if you wanted!) on either side to water, adjust the plants, etc. I'm also impressed how light-proof it actually is - more so than my last tent that leaked around the seams.

My only "complaint" is that it only came with three cross-bars for supporting the hanging stuff. It really needs four, IMHO, especially hanging the fan/filter.

Those two Mars Reflectors give me just over 600w actual draw. I have another 300w (actual draw, but with only 3w chips) LED I'd probably like to add once they're in full flower, but not sure I'll be able to hang the third light effectively. In my last grow, I had an extra LED laying on the floor facing up through the canopy and may have to do the same thing if I can't get the light hangers around the fan/filter.

That being said, I'd definitely recommend it as a quality budget-friendly grow tent! :thumb:

Drive-by... Lookng good here Mister Krip... GL with the lighting.......................

Are you spraying your clones with 1/2 strength destress? If not it will help them root faster. Mix it at 4:1 water to destress for clones and spray them every other day, mix 2:1 for rooted plants. If you spray your mother with destress a couple days before taking clones the clones tend to root faster as well.

Nice tent and I like your strain choices.

Thanks, Neiko! :thanks:

Yes, I have been spraying the clones with destress but I have very good success cloning without it so I've been doing it more like every 3-4 days. I think I'm more concerned about the grow cubes being too wet or causing mold than trying to cut another day or two off the rooting. That being said, I haven't really noticed any decrease in rooting times, but, using that Tut cutting above as an example, they do seem very healthy; and, perhaps if I sprayed every other day I would see some faster rooting?

Another nice little additive for clones is B-1, cheap too.
Liquinox Home of Liquid Fertilizer 221 West Meats Ave Orange CA

I have the Advanced Nutrients B-52 which is similar, although, likely more expensive. I don't use that for cloning, either. Typically just some rooting powder on a "scraped" stem cut at a 45* angle, stuck in a grow cube soaked in regular non-PH'd tap water, and put under 100% humidity until I see roots. I do open the humidity dome/cover every 2-3 days to let it air out to prevent mold and make sure the cube is still moist. I don't like spraying clones under a humidity dome. I find it invites mold. I prefer to spray the grow cube only.
