Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL - LED

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Also, what are peoples thoughts on using rain water? I'm asking because I know there are just tonsssss of chemicals constantly being put into our atmosphere. Not to get all conspiracy related but there is ton of evidence that shows heavy metals are constantly sprayed into the atmosphere. Would this not tarnish the rain quality? I will collect water and do some ppM readings at least, but I would assume rain water in urban areas would be especially toxic. Just a thought/question.

OK Boogyman, I pulled out my notes and you want to be sure the powdered malted barley grain is diastatic, as opposed to non-diastatic. If it's not diastatic, pass on it.

The Agsil gets mixed with water at a ratio of 7.8% (780/1). That would be 148grams/ liter or 3 TBS / 8 oz water. Mix it in a bottle you can store it in, shaking well to combine.

Dilute this 7.8% solution at 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. It's safe to use on every single watering, but not required. Some people use Aloe and Silica with every watering with stunning results.

Use 1/2 teaspoon of the 7.8% solution per gallon to foliar spray.

Start slow and see what you think. You can increase to more if you're comfortable. I've read of others using up to 2-3 tsp/gal.

The other day one of the regulars on BlueJay's thread mentioned that with 'light' mixes like CC's you only needed to cook for a week. Today one of the regulars on the new thread on that site dedicated to customers of my favorite soil building company, who's had continuous cycles going for some time, clarified that the soil mix has nothing 'hot' in it. He plants in it the day he mixes with no ill effects to speak of to date.

I trust he's speaking truth here. His reputation precedes him. Looking over the list of soil components bears this out. Nothing hot in the mix at all. Easy to mix. Easy to use. Easy to maintain. Fabulous harvests with little effort. Yep. That's my soil mix. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Early last year I was looking into rain water & yes, it depends on the region you live in. Not sure what site I researched on but certain areas it's considered great for plants but in metropolitan areas such as here in NY.C it isn't desirable. Check your region.

Indeed. I'm upstate of you and I still don't really want to use the rain water from around here.

Thanks so much again for your help. I'm going to start writing down a Tea and foliar schedule for when I switch to LOS. I'm so excited! I'm glad I discovered this early in my experience with growing because it's obviously the best way to go, along with high brix. This seems a lot easier to me than highbrix, for some reason. I still think I'll try a batch of HB to see how it works for me cause I'm sure it's a lot more simple than I am making it out to be in my stoned-head :D

I share that perception Boogyman, although I fully admit it's simply based on inexperience. I think it's the precise measurement that puts people off. We do the same types of thing on a weekly basis with LOS, just different supplies for the drenches and foliars. (This time I'm going to do some LOS foliars - at least that's the plan). With LOS there's not the control exerted with HB. Before I begin I will have figured out my measurements and gathered appropriate measuring tools. Max Yields and Major PITA have both offered excellent guides for the scheduling of the drenches, teas, soaks, foliars - the works for HB. I'm confident once I get going it will feel as natural as the methods I use for my LOS pots. If I can demonstrate how easy the kit really that may alleviate some of your hesitation.

It's just living soil, just not the same expression as LOS. I'm excited to get going with it.

Daily update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 32

She got her 1/4 turn and both pots got a nice drench with coconut water (1/4 c/ half gallon) and aloe vera juice (1/8 c/half gallon). I remembered yesterday that I don't need to add Agsil (which I've yet to purchase) because I can use Diatomaceous Earth instead. Also, the rice hulls I use as part of my aeration add usable silica to the soil solution over time. With LOS no-tills much of what you begin with is meant to take years to break down. The weekly applications of teas, drenches and occasional foliars fill any gaps and stimulate beneficial activity in the micro herd. Top dressings of rich vermicompost are an excellent way to cycle in more minerals and micro-nutrients.

See how similar the two soils are? At this point the biggest difference to me is that we've figured out how to keep the LOS going as a no-till. Not sure if that would be possible with the HB soil without testing, which I'm sure won't happen in my household. That just means that the HB soil gets recycled and recharged. Kind of a rude thing to do to the micro herd, but I think they're resilient enough to withstand the assault. There should be a way to now-till one longer than a few cycles. Maybe we'll discover a way.

Ok. Let's see how she's doing today. I pull back the curtain and .....

image24004.jpg

Lots of flowering growth starting up. Time to begin my plan to surround this little Devil with light.

image24005.jpg

I think she's going to use the entire pot. I'll hold off on a tier for now. When I get my next light I can tier the waiting LOS pot.

image24006.jpg

No-till porn. :laughtwo: I love this shot.

image24007.jpg

image24008.jpg

I hung two light cords, both with y-adapters, holding two 23 Watt CFLs each. The one to the back is warm (2700 K) and the remaining three are 5000 K. In a couple days I'll add another string. Let's see what difference more light makes.

image24009.jpg

I'm not giving up on this one yet. The shock of being uprooted and kidnapped/rescued is inevitable. We'll watch closely and keep sending those thoughts of intention. "Grow, little one."

Starting to look like a proper garden again. :slide:

You all have a delightful day. Spread all the joy you can muster.

Coming on well SS. Love the journal, watching u n BB n a few others growing in dirt. Too much information lol, jokes...I started my 1st grow in DWC, now growing in coco & getting better results( looks better than the auto), maybe cos it was a learning curve. Obviously being stealth I can only grow one/two at a time n just got my clones growing so hopefully can do perpetual on a small scale :) ... Anyways this is my 1st time doing a photo strain, put into 12/12 on the 13th after 8 wks veg, i know u have only done autos but was wandering if any of u experienced growers can tell me how long to see pre flowers/pistols after flip?

Re: Sweetsue's Tiny Closet - Second Grow - Sweet Dark Devil & Bomb Berry Bomb - CFL -

Sue,

I put a plant outside this week, and its growing like crazy, but I noticed its bottom leaves already are showing signs of what appears to be draining of color. Any chance you & some others could give my girl a glancing, and a suggestion. I am thinking it needs N. This plant is still stabilizing in its new pot. A mix of generic potting and garden soils with about 50+ worms in it. I have also given the plant a doze of Mico with the mega plant bacteria does. The Great White stuff.

Aki the Confused Grower

Hmmm url doesnt go to the post, which appears to have disappeared.

Awesome, bob. I think i could get dust from the marble mines around here. I think I read marble is good, same thing as volcanic rock? Eventually I would like to make my own mix from scratch, or at least gather as much as possible from the forest, etc..

Volcanic rocks: basalt/granite/pumice tend to lower PH
Marble/limestone tend to raise ph.

I consider them much different ingredients.

Thank you Rad and Doc for pointing that out so quickly.

I'm picking up McDs for breakfast. Need sleep.

Goodnight all.

Hey guys, quick pic of the girls. From back left to right: Skywalker OG, Guava, BC God Bud. Front left to right: Liberty Haze, Critical Kush and Tangerine Dream. In the middle is G13 Haze which did not like something I did early on and has been pretty stunted since.

I know the answer to this one - if you're 60 days from seed look closely at the 6th or 7th node and you should already see pistols at the Y branches - very tiny white hairs. If you don't see them by now you probably have males! Males try and hide their sex at pre-flower stage and actually try and "fake" like they are female but they will not have the white pistols at the 6-7th nodes. Basically 7th node for sure will have the female bits. Good luck - you can see better with a magnifying glass.

Sorenna, you caught me too late. Next time ok? :laughtwo::green_heart:

Daily Update: Dark Devil Auto - Day 33

I left extra early to have breakfast with Dale. No ambient sunlight to set the stage today. All I had time for was a quick pass with the camera and a bit of ooooing and awwwwing to let her know how impressed I was with her.

image24036.jpg

bobrown14 is growing a Dark Devil Auto and I was looking at how much more vigorous they grow with more light. It made me happy that I had added in the CFLs yesterday. I can already see a deepening of the color in the leaves after just one day.

Silhouette against the indoor sun. I'll just let you browse for a while.

Last night I gave my LOS another stir. The smell of that soil is intoxicating. I just love being elbow deep in it. When I mix new soil I'm always a little sad that I won't be digging into it after it's potted up. I can feel the energy in the soil while I'm mixing. Excellent structure to this batch.

I popped open the HB soil to check how the tuning was going. It was early morning, so not much available light, but you can see I have happy and active microbes playing in the soil now.

image24043.jpg

This shot was particularly cool. Look at the way you can see the mycelium reaching right out of the soil. Oh yeah!!!

image24044.jpg

One last look at the blossom action. I just get so excited at this point. We have another 6-7 weeks to watch her explode in growth. Won't that be fun? :laughtwo:

QUESTION FOR THE GALLERY

Anyone have any idea what this is? I just noticed it. The value of taking lots of pictures.

image24046.jpg

It's taking more effort than usual to get past the nagging awareness that something is going terribly wrong in this ankle. Wednesday we get another shot at the angioplasty, so Vascular Surgery gets another look. Just trying to remain optimistic here. I seem to be walking around in some type of quiet terror. Not a comfortable place to be. My way of dealing with it is to study my soils harder so I don't have time to think about it.

You all have a wonderful day. Spread all the joy you can. I'm working hard at it from my end.

Cheers BB, it's definitely a female, I'm just probably worrying over nothing as this is my first photo strain. I'll try & get a pic up..
Here we go..BB was you thinking stipules or is it petioles. King John has a pic somewhere..
