SweetSue's Perpetual 3.0 - The Hempy/HB Hybrid Grow

Your girls are looking awesome Sue!! Are you finding yourself preferring the hempy grows over the soil grows? Just curious.

The intent of this version of the grow was to make that determination Van, but what I'm finding is some chemovars express better in soil and some it doesn't make a difference. Carnival, for example, had much richer terpene expression in soil, particularly in soil with Doc's HB Kit, so from now on I'll be keeping to soil with Carnival. The CBD Critical Cure seems to be quite happy in either. They grow stronger branches with soil, which makes sense to someone who grew in LOS. When the plant can request the meal and get that precise nutrient on demand it grows a different plant than when we force-feed them.

In humans we get fat, in plants apparently, they go lanky and don't get the richness we demand in our terpene profiles.

One begins to wonder if the cannabinoid profiles suffer as well. I can't answer that in my world, but I can limit the medicinal plants to soil nourished with Doc's kit. With recreational plants the determinant is simply, "Did I get the buzz I wanted?" With medicine the buzz isn't the concern. I want terpenes and a diversified collection of cannabinoids. Living soils appear to produce those better, for my purposes, than hempy.

Hempy is just plain fun to grow. :laughtwo: So easy to manage. So beautiful to watch take off in those limited root spaces. It's just too much fun to let go. I used to think of it as a way to get more plants in the space. You see how that didn't work out quite the way I envisioned?

I'll be keeping both methods, but I'll be selective in what I grow in each medium. I'll try each new chemovar in both and then decide. I can say that from now on Carnival and CBD Critical Cure will be in soil.

I just finished an exquisite session of Callanetics and now I'm taking myself out to dinner.

And by the way, MrGreene, Thank you, you sweet man. :kisstwo:

See? A perfect day, and it's not over yet. I tell ya, this joy thing I keep hawking, it's got some teeth in it. :battingeyelashes:

Thats kind of the answer I expected based off of following your journal. I didn't get the feeling that you necessarily preferred one over the other. Hempy does look interesting for the reasons you stated.....but I just love soil so i will stick to it for the foreseeable future.

Hi Sue -
I finally caught up to real time. You are a wonderfilled person. Your plants reveal the love that you give them.
Not growing myself right now... too paranoid, but I can feel a transition coming soon.
I look forward to following your adventures.

Thank you Sue. :kisstwo: You are the sweet one, it even says so in your name. :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

I hope that Joy thing doesn't have teeth. That would hurt. I'd bet it has an amazing grip though. :thedoubletake:

Well hello there Syntroxis. :hugs: 57 pages..... Impressed I am, and thank you for the compliment. A Texan I see. Mmmmm...... One of my favorite states, believe it or not. :laughtwo: Yeah, I used to be paranoid too. Didn't start growing until right before my husband died. Now the goal appears to be spread the word as widely as possible how unnecessary that kind of physical degradation is when we have cannabis on hand to assist the stressed ECS.

I lived too long in a world where I heard things like "Well, the very drugs that keep him alive will destroy the organs in time." Once I discovered the power of cannabis to help the body heal paranoia kinda melted away to anger, which I've transformed to joy as I play with ways to change the conversation.

Growing is its own joy Syntroxis. Stealth is the name of the game for most of us. Once you raise your first plant you'll understand our passion for cultivation. :laughtwo: Do you have resources available for a grow?

Oh guys..... I completely forgot! Life keeps diverting me with more delight. The GROWant GR240 I won in the NOTM came in. :yahoo:

IMG_55507.JPG

Bright little thing. Made the daughter jump when I clicked it on. :laughtwo:

IMG_554710.JPG

I'm not certain where I'll put it to use, but I've some ideas tumbling. The COBs and quantum boards have me spoiled with all the white light. These pink lights have to be contained in tents, which is problamatic. I only have the two tents.

I was explaining to the daughter my idea for setting up a space that'd accomodate 120 solo cups in four stages, so one would have a daily juicing supply and she stopped, shook her head in defiance and proclaimed "See, this is why they need to let you grow as much as you want. No restriction!"

The girl makes her mother proud. :blunt:

Syntroxis, I'll do my best to make the journey adventurous. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hi again -
"Growing is its own joy Syntroxis. Stealth is the name of the game for most of us. Once you raise your first plant you'll understand our passion for cultivation. Do you have resources available for a grow?"

Hopefully, will be moving to Colorado soon and the fun will begin. It will be a shock to have 4 seasons.. Meanwhile, I'll continue learning from the fine folks here at 420.

I could not have said it better. Funny the little journey canna-cultivation has been. Keeps my nails dirty.:allgood:

A more proper response that might flow from her lips could be.... "120 solo cup.... are you mad?!?!"
Make the lazy gardener shiver to the bone.

Boy, do I hear you. As enticing as the idea is I shiver with apprehension every time I start considering it.

The idea is to demonstrate the possibility and get the rhythm down. Sooner or later we'll find the means to the conversation that'll change the minds of those who set the rules. They lack the understanding of how important a nutritional source cannabis can be. I figure get prepared for that eventuality and have some easy processes we can offer members.

Someone has to try. I don't have a problem with that being me. :battingeyelashes:

Good morning sunshine. I sincerely wish you all a fantastic day.

You are really getting on my good side. :kisstwo: Have a wonderful day yourself. :hugs:

Good morning everyone

I've an appointment in town this morning so this comes to you by way of the bus ride into the city, packed in with the college students. Traveling with the future. :laughtwo: This route runs past Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. Love this ride, but I'm glad it isn't something I have to do every day anymore.

Drenches are all done. When I get home I have a couple clones calling for upcanning. Ooo...., forgot to order another bag of perlite. On the "to do list" that most often gets overlooked. I'll post pretty pictures with the updates later.

Until then, be boldly joyful and see what the universe decides to bring to surprise and delight you.

:ciao:

Enjoy your ride. Life is one big ride on the merry go round we call earth. The lucky few near you today will be blessed to absorb all the great energy that comes for such a centered and positive person. Watch their day be changed by the manifestation of your positive vibrations. We all should be so luck. Have a great one and look forward to a peek into your amazing garden

Gotta love Friday's :passitleft:

This Friday got really busy. I may be past your bedtime Mr Am4zin. :hugs:  :hugs:

Weekly Update: Clone Cuttings and Veg Shelf - Friday, November 17, 2017

Time to get this show on the road. Busy day of having fun. :cheesygrinsmiley:

The clone shelf is down to two again, Carnival 4.6 and CBD Critical Cure 2.8. I'm not entirely confident that CBD CC 2.8 will survive, and if not I'll start a new seed. It'll help me get back on track with timing the harvests. I'm thinking 3-4 harvests a month. I can plan like that because I'll be growing autos in the closet. It's figuring out how I want those harvests scheduled. I'm seems I'm kinda falling into a pattern I'm comfortable with.

IMG_563312.JPG

IMG_56166.JPG

Part of that timing progress was potting up Malawi 1.2 and Chem Dawg this evening, hence the late hour of this post. I'm at the bottom of the bag of perlite and it's full of dust that takes twice as long to rinse. After they were in their new homes I watered them with 1/4 strength nutrients. They're sitting far from the light tonight. Starting tomorrow they'll begin the verticle rise to about 24". That'll take a few days. :cheesygrinsmiley:

IMG_56174.JPG

Malawi 1.2 (Day 18) She has minimal roots, but I'll let the perlite be saturated with nutrient water at every watering until she catches up. She's small but giving off a good energy. She got planted in one of my new Halloween pots. Eventually she'll get transferred into a small trash can, probably the one Blue Dream is now occupying.

IMG_563111.JPG

Chem Dawg may be the most vigorious specimen in the garden, and that says a lot. I grow Devil's Carnival, one of the most vigorious chemovars I've played with. Roots were poking out of the drain hole in the solo cup. Lol! It was totally root bound.

IMG_563211.JPG

Devil's Carnival 1.2 (Day 55, 42 of them in the pot) She's getting the max level of veg nutes, 12 ml of Parts A & B with 4 ml of Energy and 2 tsp of CaliMagic per gallon of water and quite frankly, I can't get this one into bloom soon enough. I tipped off all of the growing tips on the leaders, hoping to let a couple more of the lower tops catch up before the day comes. Malawi will open up the next space soon.

I find her breathtaking.

IMG_56189.JPG

I'm finding these smaller cans work best for the hempy plants. She looks very happy, though impatient. :laughtwo:

IMG_56199.JPG

Jamaican 1.1 (Day 29, 22 of them in soil) She's a wonky one. Lol! I'm considering chopping her back pretty severely, but then I wanted to let her go on her own, just to see what she turns out like unfettered. Two days ago she got a TransWater drench, and that explains the droopiness. She doesn't like to be damp.

I'm once again off schedule with foliars. *sigh*

IMG_562110.JPG

She'll be sharing the Spa with DC 1.2, at least for part of the time, unless I decide to clone her and start anew. The timing isn't quite right, and I wanted this girl to have the space all to herself. I'm still working on being as ruthless as the Klone King. :laughtwo:

IMG_562010.JPG

And she's gonna need space.

IMG_56237.JPG

What I'm considering is chopping her back to here and letting her grow out again, but then I violate my original intention. I think it's just me reacting to the way it grows these long branches. I'll do my best to leave her unmolested.

IMG_562912.JPG

Look, early trichomes. :woohoo: This is a primitive set of genetics from the island soils of Jamaica.

IMG_563010.JPG

IMG_56269.JPG

CBD Critical Cure 2.7 (Day 36, 23 of them in the pot) She's getting fed at the rate of 10 ml of Parts A & B with 4 ml of Energy with 2 tsp of CaliMagic per gallon of water.

This is one impressive plant. Once I get her into a bigger pot she's gonna explode. Her clone will go into soil, and from now on all future specimens of the chemovar will be in soil. This is probably the most important chemovar in my garden, from a medicinal perspective.

IMG_562511.JPG

This girl has more vigor than any of her predecessors. The flush of color in her leaves is startling in person.

IMG_562410.JPG

Interior growth is starting to explode.

IMG_562811.JPG

I'd like to grow this one less controlled than previous specimens. If I can reign in my compulsion to train that'll happen. :laughtwo:

IMG_562711.JPG

Next up, the tiny closet. :ciao:

Weekly Update: The Tiny Closet - Friday, November 17, 2017

There's only one resident in the closet at the moment, Candy Cane 3.1 (Day 93, flip + 26) Her bloom feed level is at the maximum, 32 ml of Parts A & B and 8 ml of Bulk and the necessary 2 tsp of CaliMagic per gallon of water.

She looks like living sculpture in this setting, doesn't she? :battingeyelashes:

IMG_560611.JPG

IMG_560710.JPG

Here comes the snow storm. :slide:

IMG_561013.JPG

IMG_56118.JPG

Everything is developing beautifully.

IMG_561211.JPG

IMG_561311.JPG

I've begun supporting the branches in advance of their falling over. Those poles are coming in real handy. She spills right out of the closet.

IMG_561411.JPG

IMG_56157.JPG

She's about halfway through her bloom, and I'm really happy about her development.

On to the Spa. :battingeyelashes:

Weekly Update: The Spa - Friday, November 17, 2017

IMG_55837.JPG

Blue Dream S1 (Day 107, flip + 34) She's dropped down to 28 ml Parts A & B and 4 ml of Bulk with 2 tsp of CaliMagic per gallon of water. The delicious berry smell she emits is becoming mouthwatering. Lol!

IMG_55845.JPG

IMG_558511.JPG

Starting to beef up the buds. :yahoo:

IMG_558610.JPG

Malawi (Day 118, flip + 72) Hey...... I just realized I'm not off schedule for foliars after all. :cheesygrinsmiley: The soil girls all got Brixed on the 11th, so I still have time to get one in. Whew! I thought I'd been more attentive than that. :laughtwo: Malawi's last drench was a Transplant, delivered on the 13th.

IMG_55877.JPG

Her perfume changed dramatically just this morning, emitting a much stronger sweetness. That clued me that she'd entered her harvest window. I was anticipating 12 weeks in flower, and she's coming in right around that.

IMG_55888.JPG

She drips trichomes. :slide: Buds are beautifully swollen, pistils almost all brown and beginning to pull back. Still a mass of clear though. Almost there.

IMG_558911.JPG

IMG_559011.JPG

IMG_559111.JPG

Mmmmm.......

IMG_55929.JPG

Jamaican Bag Seed (Day 129, flip + 53) She's had two drenches in the past week, beginning with an Energy last Saturday, and a TransWater drench two days ago. Fans are beginning to fade and the lower buds are beginning to purple. YES!!! :yahoo: I figure her to be running about a week or two behind Malawi. The harvest order looks to be Malawi to the Jamaican and finishing out with Blue Dream.

IMG_559310.JPG

She's still actively blooming. At least another week, but more likely two.

IMG_5635.PNG

The tents coming up. :ciao:

Weekly Update: The Tents - Friday, November 17, 2017

Last, but not at all least, the tents.

Carnival 4.4 (Day 90, flip + 10) Her bloom nutrient level is still 28 ml of Parts A & B with 1 ml of Energy and 2 tsp of CaliMagic per gallon of water.

She's busy filling the tent. :cheesygrinsmiley:

IMG_559411.JPG

Raised the lights again.

IMG_55959.JPG

IMG_55967.JPG

IMG_55977.JPG

CBD Critical Cure 2.6 (Day 102, flip + 48) Starting the slide away from bloom nutes, she's getting 28 ml of Parts A & B with 4 ml of Bulk and the necessary 2 tsp of CalIMagic per gallon of water.

IMG_559811.JPG

IMG_559915.JPG

It intrigues me how differently they structure in hempy. They're leggier, but apparently every bit as dense as the soil buds. I won't know for sure until harvest, still almost a month away.

IMG_56007.JPG

IMG_56019.JPG

I have to giggle at the idea that people think CBD-dominant plants don't make copious amounts of essential oils. This chemovar excels at it.

IMG_560210.JPG

IMG_560412.JPG

IMG_56055.JPG

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of the nickle tour. You have my heartfelt thanks for stopping by so I have someone to show them off to. :cheesygrinsmiley: Whew! It's been a long day. The daughter brought my laundry over a while ago and dumped it on my bed to be sorted and put away, so I'd best get to it before they're all wrinkled up. A gal's gotta look good, ya know. :battingeyelashes:

Afterwards I hope to catch a righteous buzz and get some thread surfing going. I may end up falling asleep. Lol! I've been walking on the grassy areas that run along the roadways instead of on the sidewalks, and let me tell you, it uses much more energy to do that. It also protects the knees from the jarring of the concrete and works more muscle fibers, which ultimately means it wears me out by the end of the day. :laughtwo:

But I got the updates done, so I'm feeling satisfied with the day's ending. :circle-of-love:
