SweetSue's Perpetual 3.0 - The Hempy/HB Hybrid Grow

@neikodog , I had to wait for lights on to check the Red Diesel. The Black D.O.G. Is in veg right now, so I'm assuming this is the girl you were referencing. At first I thought it was just that the lower blades were tucked up inside, but no, you're correct, and I've a progression from 5 blades down to 1 on this specimen.

She's also taken to throwing off nanners.

The nanners happened with the Carnival that preceeded her too, and I don't think it's light leaks, so much as the possibility that it's something with the light itself. I'd never had a Carnival set nanners before that last run, and every branch was covered with them. To have them show up again on this girl makes me suspect the light.

I've taken care to keep this room darkened after lights out, and there are curtains that block what little light gets used. All I do in this room is garden and sleep, so there's no reason to be in there until I'm going to bed. The only light in the room that gets used is a 40 watt bulb behind a shade.

She frosts up nicely and she's foxtailing like mad too. I suspect that's also related to the light.

@Hash Hound, I misspoke about the age of the Red Diesel. She's 56 days in. I may have transposed those numbers when we were talking. Blame it on the Malawi cob. Lol!

I had lots of seemingly infertile male flowers this cycle and I came to the conclusion that they were caused from spraying too much insecticidal soap, but before I decided on that diagnosis I suspected and read a bit that it could be due to switching lighting spectrums. Like going from blurple to full spectrum. I don’t have light leaks and one heavily sprayed plant had no male flowers at all so I really have no idea but am satisfied with the soap theory for now.

SS did you have a journal on your Dark Devil Auto? Did you fim or top it? I have some that are about 7 days old and looking good just can't decide whether to leave alone or fim.

We have a thread dedicated to it Jax. Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Experience

I always top at about the 5th node and leave them alone from then on. If you can work out some side lighting you can increase the yields, but other than that I just hit them with all the light I can and give them freedom to follow their Canna hearts. :battingeyelashes:

Thanks a lot Sue, I will give them freedom to be bodacious weeds. I'm at 3 & 4th nodes so probably will fim them tomorrow.

There looking wicked

Yep she looks very yummy indeed.

Haha! :welcome: Greenwing. Stopped me dead in my tracks. Lol! Make yourself comfortable. You stopped just in time for the big announcement......

Guys...hehe! Look...

The Dark Devil Autos came up!!! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

DDA 8 came up around 4:30 this afternoon, in need of assistance to get the shell off.

It took about 6 minutes for the seedling to toss off the shell. I helped at the end with a toothpick and a gentle hand.

The other seed got itself flipped with the root coming out of the perlite so I shifted it into proper alignment and set the domes back on.

At 11:30 PM the second seed cast off its own shell. I used toothpicks to get it off the stem.

After 7 hours DDA 8 is looking ready to take off. Lol!

DDA 9 won’t be far behind.

Tonight they get the protection of the humidity domes. Tomorrow I’ll start getting them used to the open air.

The Black D.O.G. in veg has thrips. Time to break out the spinosad and do this right. I’ll start spraying everyone tomorrow.

That’s ok. All’s well. :slide: SweetSue has DDAs growing. :yahoo:

I'd venture the 201 days vegged stressed her out, thus the nanners

That's my guess

Entirely possible, I suppose. But I have kept mothers for multiple years (up to five with one, IIRC). Got to the point where they started looking like the world's bushiest (due to all the cuts)... auto-flowers. You know: Might as well throw it into the flowering room because, lol, she's flowering NOW.

...and no male flowers were produced in flower. Or none detected, at least (no seeds were reported found in the bud). But those were older, less worked ("improved") strains for the most part. And not strains that I'd observed hermaphroditic characteristics in during normal runs (other than the kind of thing that often happens at the end of a very lengthy flowering period with unpollinated females).

But I suppose that an extended vegetative period could be considered to be stress. Most things that haven't been at least a semi-regular occurrence in nature probably would be.

it could be due to switching lighting spectrums. Like going from blurple to full spectrum.

My money is on that. Although... Did spraying the plants cause a bunch of withered pistols within 48 hours? If so, that would have been stressful.

But I would consider LIGHT, in general, to be THE most significant factor to the plant. Yes, I recognize the fact that there are several things - water being one of them ;) - that, if they were completely lacking, life would not be possible.

Still and all, though, light is a pretty major thing. Needed for life. Needed for growth. Needed for flowering. Needed for... Well, you know. And - discounting auto-flowering genes - light, or rather (uninterrupted) absence of light is pretty much THE trigger for flowering. Any other triggering, hmm? Well... You can have a cool day - or even a cold, wet week - and that doesn't automatically mean that the growing season is kaput. But when the characteristics of the light (outdoors) change, OtOH...

That whole "odd male flower here and there towards the end of flowering" thing? Yeah...

I managed to remember that - DUH! - I needed to start some seeds BEFORE the middle of the night when I was trying hard to fall asleep!!!

Got a DDA going for a swim. I seem to have mixed all my batches of seeds up, so I don't know if this is a first, second... most recent "batch" seed. It matters not (now, at least), for it will germinate, and then it will sprout when planted. If not, there are "a couple" where it came from, and they look like they're tired of being ignored, too, lol.

Also trying to start a Crop King Seeds White Widow Auto. And a Barney's Farm Peyote Critical for my buddy from that awesome care package that we got from The Vault seedbank. Thanks to Gary and all the folks at The Vault for that!

Will be trying to start several more (various strains) tomorrow evening. Ran out of time tonight. I think I'll probably try to start one DDA, SSDC, or both for every other seed I try to start here in the next week or so, lol. If nothing else... I go for lots of walks ;) .

Can you loan me some of that positive energy that drips off of you?

TS.... my pleasure...:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Pink (cannabis) cigar time!!! Congratulations.

And thanks for the pictures. I meant to do some in perlite cups, but forgot. Do you knock a hole in the cup to begin with, or wait until you've got an actual rooted sprout and then do so? Think I'm down to three Solo cups, so I don't want to waste any (there's always tape, I guess).

Very much looking forward to seeing those bad ladies get there big on

Good morning everyone

Sue... tell us of your water drop hat removal technique.
I've always just pulled them off with a pair of tweezers and a toothpick. The drop of water seems lazier... thus my attraction.

I'm not surprised. Lol! Certainly....

The practice is in recognition of the force of life. The natural inclination of that seedling is to cast off the shell to lift its arms to the sun. There's more force in that effort than we give credit to, but we inhibit natural forces that work in concert with that cosmic urge to expand when we plant the seed in perlite.

Lacking the friction of trillions of grains of soil to rub the shell off, our seedlings pop up still embraced by the protective shell. What it lacks at this time is the powerful lubrication of H2O. The opportunistic water molecules insert themselves into every opening and apply their own pressure, and the shell spreads open a tiny bit more, and more, and more, until it's easier to remove without damaging the tender seedling.

I start with one drop from my fingertip and force myself to wait a minute before repeating with another drop of water. I keep doing that until I see an opportunity to use toothpicks to more quickly finish. I could do more drops of water but I'm an impatient lazy gardener. Haha!

I'm gonna try my best to get a session of Callanetics in right now. I'm beginning to move like an old woman. We can't have that, can we? :battingeyelashes:

I'll catch up later. :ciao:

...........I'm feeling rediculously happy today. If all went right Dan will begin shipping my lights today.

Spread the love guys......
