SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

That is absolutely fantastically awesome to hear! +REPS!!! :welldone:

Best wishes for a continued and speedy recovery to your friend! :goodluck:

Thank you Mr. Krip!

This is why I do it RheinRover. :yahoo: It's not like I could ignore the passionate drive, so I'm pleased that my efforts are inspiring so many to heal themselves.

I know how overwhelming it can feel. I start with lowered expectations and then sit back and watch with wonder as people become healthier right before my eyes. What an amazing plant.

Sue your efforts are being felt world wide
This plant is beyond worlds. After I heard the good news yesterday I packed up my vape and headed to the tent. Put on some music puffed away and just gazed lovingly at my little plant growing away.
I always tell my wife that part of my treatment is growing. The pleasure it brings is beyond words and helping others is an even better byproduct.

Oil Recovery from Remains of Bio-Bomb Makings

When I finished filling the caps I put all the leftovers, including the filters in the 500ml beaker and added hot water and heated to near boiling. Then I refrigerated overnight.

More water and heat. This time I let it cool and sit at room temp for several hours. Then I refrigerated overnight.

Another Day, Another Gram

This morning I had this.
9_9_16_Oil_1.JPG

9_9_16_Oil_2.JPG

9_9_16_Oil_3.JPG

I tossed the 100ml jar, not worth skimming. The 50ml beaker had water added and was reheated.
9_9_16_Oil_4.JPG

I let it cool and separate, then drew the oil off.
9_9_16_Oil_5.JPG

Then I discovered a problem that should have been obvious. The first and last caps were melting from the bottom while they were still in the filling stand. Those caps melt fast with very little worm water. I lost four caps, salvaged 10 and licked up probably another two grams.

You can see the damage. I threw them in the freezer to stop them from disintegrating more.
9_9_16_Oil_7.JPG

The remains of the 50ml were reheated until the temp started rising above boiling. (About 200 here.) Then I cooled and filtered it and got another five caps.
9_9_16_Oil_6.JPG

So what do I think?
With this process you need to get rid of most of the plant mater by floating the oil out. The problem is, most of the solids are only slightly heaver than the oil. It takes time to separate into layers. Keeping it worm for a few hours before refrigerating will help.

When you get to your last batch to heat, you want to drain all of the water you can from the solidified oil and heat until all the water has boiled away. Then it is ready to filter.

As long as the oil is worm to hot, it goes through coffee filters ok. The cooler it gets the harder it is to filter. I got tired of waiting and put it in the microwave for a few seconds at a time. My bad. It was the last of the last.

The more I worked with the oil the darker it got. I assume it is oxidation. However, even the last oil squeezed out was not very green or that dark while worm. I have no idea what went out with the discarded water.

My best guess is I got all but five grams or less out of the plant material and then lost about five or six to screw ups.

This process would probably work smother and recover about the same amount of oil by bagging the remains someway and agitating it in boiling water for a while.

Melting the gel caps is probably the best lesson learned.

That's what I did. I was just winging it. It is safe to say it is not the fastest way to go.

Maybe the difference in color changed as the different weights of composition changed as you lowered the levels.
I dunno much about this but it sounds like a tedious and meticulous task. Something I may like to do later. Okay is something I will definitely be doing. Sound like you had a lil fun.
Thank you.

Good morning Ms. Sue. I hope your day is full of enlightenment and good vibes.

Thank you Canyon, for being so curious in nature and for documenting the process for us. Lesson learned about the warm oil and melting caps. That explains my instinct to let it come to room temp before I started filling. I was working on instinct there, because as I read your post I realized I'd have probably have made that same mistake someday being impatient, if not for your excellent reporting.

The lesson I learned the hard way.

Last Sunday I started the process of reducing my freshly-harvested Dark Devil Auto into a coconut oil infusion. I used the immersion blender to get it mashed up in the jar I intended to process in. This was my first mistake.

What I didn't realize was that I'd compromised the integrity of the glass in so doing. As I was placing it into the oil bath to heat I remember a little voice in my head saying "Transfer this to a smaller jar." It never occurred to me that safety would be an issue. I ignored that intuitive voice of reason and proceeded with this jar. This was my second, fatal mistake.

I did, however, manage to get my plant material mashed up in the seemingly rediculous small volume of carrier oil by starting with the oil and adding plant material a bit at a time. This worked better than anticipated, actually.

image16839.jpeg

The jar was too deep to get the thermometer into, so at an early stage I decided to listen to that voice anyway and make a switch to another, more shallow jar. As I lifted the jar I heard the click of the bottom falling out and again, instinctively stepped back quickly. When the boiling water inside the jar hit the hot oil bath it went volcanic.

Thankfully, I wasn't injured in any way. I have been assigned one of the most hard-working guardian angels in the cosmos. :laughtwo: It took less than half an hour to clean up the superficial mess on the stove and surrounding floor. It wasn't until later, while feeling stoked that we'd done such a quick job of cleaning up, that I realized oil had been dripping from inside the stove and had seeped under the rubber floor tiles that I have my kitchen floor covered with. After an hour of cleaning that mess up I have it down to some paper towels under the drip hole beneath the stove that I change out every day.

In in a moment of whimsy I'd cut off the apical tip for drying and smoking. I like a bit of fresh after the harvest, and Dark Devil Auto is a strain that offers a bit of a hallucinogenic effect right after the initial drying stage. Night before last I ground her up and started enjoying her. Excellent smoke. A bittersweet consolation prize, if you will.

Lessons learned:

* Mash the plant and oil together in a heavy bowl or pot.

* Use a Pyrex container or a stainless container to boil the mash down.

* Always save a small piece for yourself.

Learn from my mistakes.

PsyCro's going to be making another batch with his pressure cooker in the next couple weeks, and he's promised to document it with pictures and narration. He believes the pressure cooker is the best way to infuse the oils with the maximum overall components. I'll be sure to get that documentation reposted over here.

And yeah....... It still hurts. :yikes:

I have a MB2 machine as well but haven't used it yet....I have a cancer curing strain, high CBD, sugar leaves drying on a glass table right now as well....how much MJ do you use? Oh, I haven't been this excited in a long time...would you mind if I PM'd you with questions?

Still unsure exactly what the process is with the MB2, but I have lots of essential oils on hand and can accumulate the grape seed oil and beeswax....thank you from the bottom of my heart...I help so many people, but to help my best friend, my beloved mother, would really take the cake!:thanks:

PLEASE keep me in the loop as to how the cream works with the high CBD strain!!! Since I don't have one available yet, I am stuck with the high thc strains. Let me know if there is noticeable inflammation reduction along with the pain relief. :Namaste::circle-of-love::peace:

FYI...I fill caps with WARM (not hot!) oil, especially when using coconut to make sure it doesn't solidify, and don't have any problems.

If it's too hot, it will melt the caps. However, while the caps can contain the oil, they will dissolve with even a small amount of water or moisture, which is why you should keep a desiccant pack stored with the capsules. They can even dissolve from moisture from your hands, which is why I use gloves when filling & handling the caps.

I'm guessing you likely didn't get rid of all the water, which is why several melted.

Also, for whatever it's worth, I've seen a lot of people making cap's but don't think I've seen anyone using the device I use, which is called, "The Capsule Machine".

I HIGHLY recommend it! :thumb:

It makes 24 cap's at-a-time in multiple sizes (one size only in a single run, I believe). You load the long pieces of the caps in the base of the unit and the tops of the caps in the cover of the unit. Once you fill the caps, you simply put the cover on the unit, press down, and all the assembled/completed caps will be in the cover of the unit when you lift it off (they don't really show this correctly in the video, but you'll get the idea!).

The cover is also spring loaded, so you press the back of the cover and it ejects all 24 finished caps.

It takes me about 3 minutes to load, fill, and complete 24 capsules.

I purchased this device for less than $20!

[/video]

P.S. I forgot to mention the tamper, which is also very nice for making caps from decarbed, dried buds or kief!

NOTE: The unit that they're showing for the #00 cap's is the one I have. On the side of the box, it indicates it will make caps in sizes #00, #0, and #1 caps and NOT only the #00's. Personally, I've only used the #00's so don't know how well the other sizes are handled.

Melting Caps,
The problem I had was caused by water. I could see it in the first two I filled. Then I found the same softness in more of them. When I tried to suck the oil off the top I went too deep and got some water in the syringe. Worm not hot oil does not cause problems.

I did not actually pull any oil out until I had the plant volume down and in the 50ml beaker. The mistake was adding water to the 50ml beaker. If I had just heated it, boiled the remaining water off and filtered it, I would have not had a problem.

Each time I pulled the hardened oil off the top of the mix, what was left behind never rendered enough oil to be worth messing with. There just was not much oil left in it.

Bagging the plant matter and boiling it in water is going to be a better way to go, I think. Then all there is to do is refrigerate, gather the oil and boil off the remaining water and maybe filter it.

Storage,
The soft ones, I froze. The good ones I have been keeping in a bowl in the refrigerator. I have not given much thought to long term storage. Cool or refrigerated plus a drying agent of some kind seams reasonable.

Capping,
I made a quick stand by just drilling some holes in a 1x2 board. The capsule machine looks like a winner for larger batches. The tops and bottoms matched up in the video without any misses. That would be my only concern.

Making it strong,
This project started as a fresh plant and oil test. It morphed into a combination of dry and fresh buds chopped up on a cutting board to increase the cannabinoid content. Running multiple whole fresh plant batches or just buds with the same oil should work to concentrate things. The oil loss can be minimized. I did manage to prove that. Though, I believe there is room for improvements to how it is accomplished.

It is going to be a while before I can do another run. Does anyone want to try running two batches through the same carrier oil?

This was not really a chore. It became fun to open the refrigerator in the morning and check out what was in the beakers.

Thank you so much, you made my day and I am grateful...:thanks:

FYI. You may need to play with the amount of beeswax. I got a block of it from Michaels and it is a different constancy then the last wax I used. I just melted everything down and added another 1/2 c of grape seed and another 1/2c of infused coconut oil. It seems to be better. :peace:

Does anybody know, do we have somebody, who is treating diabetes with CCO? I can not find in our Forums.

I do not, but according to Rick Simpson:

Diabetics should also be aware that they will usually find that their need for insulin will be reduced and it may even decrease to the point, where they will no longer require its use at all and the same goes for most other pharmaceuticals as well. Diabetics are diagnosed with type1 or type 2 diabetes and no matter what type you suffer from, it is still beneficial to use this oil because not only will it decrease your need for insulin, it will also protect your body from all the other harm this disease can cause.

Also, this may help:

And, here's a study being done in Israel where there is a lot of leading-edge research being done on MMJ:

I hope that helps!

Morning all.
Ms. Sue. I hope you're doing well this fine morning.

Phrum the light room.

Final results. Needed more oil. Best proportions (using the block beeswax) 1c grape seed, 1c coconut 1/2c (4oz) beeswax. This now has the right consistency. :circle-of-love::peace:
