SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

By my records I've been applying the healing cream to my patches of psoriasis for three weeks now, although it doesn't seem so long......hmmmmm....... I've proven to be date-challenged before guys, just a warning.

Regardless, I've just come in from cleaning the stairwells in our building. I always laugh that they presented this as a job that would take half an hour per stairwell to sweep and mop. They don't clean the way I do. :laughtwo: In July this is a hot and sweaty job at its best, and today's no exception. I've been wiping sweat from my brow for about 90 minutes now, with another half hour to go before I'm satisfied with them.

You can see how the patches where the scales were are still blushing when the skin's under stress. What's significant is that the skin itself is now smooth, with the only dry patches being right between the eyes (below that darned concern crease I developed over twenty years of listening to doctors explaining to me how his body was trying to kill him) and along the inside crease of the nostrils.

Eventually the blushing will stop and the skin will be clear again. I can't tell you how much this makes SweetSue smile and chortle with glee.

Happy dance!! :slide:

:yahoo:

Sue, FYI, Canna was asking on the CannaNis thread earlier about additives to your healing cream. I mentioned I had planned on adding Tea Tree Oil to mine (when I get my kitchen back! :) ). That would probably be very good for you to add for your psoriasis! ;)

[h=3]THC, THCV, CBG, CBC, CBN, and CBD[/h] The most common cannabinoids in cannabis are THC, THCV, CBG, CBC, CBN, and CBD. Since the 1980’s, the discovery of cannabinoid receptor cells has produced multitudes of research of the effects and workings of canabinoids. It was first hypothesized that cannabinoids produced their physiological and behavorial effects via non-specific interaction with cell membranes. It is now known that cannbinoids interact with specific membrane-bound receptors commonly found in mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. At present, there are two known types of cannabinoid receptors, termed CB1 and CB2.
When considering cannabis as an alternative medicine, it is important to remember that each cannabis strain has a unique chemical composition with varying amounts of THC, THCV, CBG, CBC, CBN, and CBD. Each strain can affect each person differently. Additionally, cultivation artists are taking cannabis strains and altering their genetic DNA by breeding the best characteristics from each plant. Thus, there are thousands of different variations of the cannabis plant.
Our friends at Canna-Test provided us with a quick visual profile of the potency of cannabinoids, THCV, CBG, CBC, CBN, and CBD. Take some moments to look and become an educated cannabis connoisseur and start bragging to your friends about how much you know about this natural vegetative delight.

Thank you Mr. Krip. I hadn't thought about additives, but I probably should. I'll track down some tee tree oil. Vitamin E would probably be a smart addition. I wonder if aloe vera powder would be acceptable? I should be paying more attention to Cannafan's blog.

Here's what I followed. N.B. I think I messed up the paragraph layout.

Making Canna Caps

Weigh the cannabis. If you don't have access to an accurate scale, 1/3 cup of ground cannabis powder weighs about 7 grams. It's actually easier to grind the cannabis later, -though (see Step 4).Make a little bowl or basket out of aluminum foil, and put the cannabis in it (or use a pie plate). This will help keep it from burning or sticking to the baking sheet. Put the foil basket on the baking sheet and put it in your oven.

Decarboxylate the cannabis by baking it in a preheated regular oven (NOT-a toaster oven or convection oven or microwave). I now recommend-250°F for 30-minutes because it's been proven to be efficient and works well with both regular and high CBD strains.-This step will make your kitchen smell quite weedy, by the way.

Now is a good time to grind the cannabis; it's more brittle after decarboxylation, and the more surface area exposed, the more efficiently it will bind to the fat in the coconut oil. I grind to "small particle" size; some people like to go to fine powder, but that makes it extremely difficult to filter later.Measure out the oil. Coconut oil is solid at less than 76°F, but a tablespoon is still a tablespoon.

Now put the oil and ground cannabis directly into your Little Dipper or into an uncovered mason jar (which can withstand heat) in the top of a double boiler or in a water bath (in an inch or two of boiling water in a low pan) or in a pie plate in a 200°F oven or in a-Crock-Pot set on warm (it's lower than low) with at least 2 or 3 inches of water in it,. The idea is to safely heat the mixture to between 180°F-and 220°F so that the cannabinoids will be dissolved in-the oil.
Anywhere from 1/2 to 6 hours is recommended by a variety of people; I happened to use 3 hours my first time, but I've regularly made many successful batches in only 90 minutes. If you're using the water method, be sure to check the water regularly so that it doesn't boil out, breaking your jar and ruining all your work and material. Stir every 20 minutes or so.

When you're done, or just bored with this, you'll have some lovely green fluid. Let it cool down to 100°F or so (the idea is not to burn yourself!) and then you can filter out the plant material (using a coffee filter and a garlic press or potato ricer to squeeze out every last drop). Now you fill the "large end" of the capsules by using an oral syringe.

I'll assume you have access to something like a-Cap-M-Quikfiller to hold the capsule halves up (you won't need the optional tamper unless you want to experiment with putting powder into capsules too). If you're really on a low budget, a buddy suggested-plastic ammo boxes-will work.

Don't try to fill the capsules all the way or too fast; let the oil settle so any bubbles go out while you work on the next capsule, then when you've gotten them all, go back if necessary. Be sure to push hard enough to feel the "click" when putting the small end of the capsule on, so you know it's sealed properly.

Dry your hands and gently wipe off the capsules as you take them out and put them away (ideally into a pill bottle in the refrigerator, where the-capsules will solidify, helping prevent leaks). Oh, and rinse everything you used off with hot water-nowbefore the oil re-solidifies!

The last step is from Space Oddity by David Bowie: "Now it's time to try the capsule if you dare..."--I found mine to be just right for me; a bit of a surprisingly sharp peak for about 15 minutes, but after that quite easy to handle.

I can't thank you enough for this. Big hug. :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs: :laughtwo: How crazy that a simple healing recipe can make me do a happy dance. Lol!

I had some thoughts as I read through this. I'll drop them into your post.

Making Canna Caps

Weigh the cannabis. If you don’t have access to an accurate scale, 1/3 cup of ground cannabis powder weighs about 7 grams. It’s actually easier to grind the cannabis later, -though (see Step 4).Make a little bowl or basket out of aluminum foil, and put the cannabis in it (or use a pie plate). This will help keep it from burning or sticking to the baking sheet. Put the foil basket on the baking sheet and put it in your oven.

Decarboxylate the cannabis by baking it in a preheated regular oven (NOT-a toaster oven or convection oven or microwave). I now recommend-250°F for 30-minutes because it’s been proven to be efficient and works well with both regular and high CBD strains.-This step will make your kitchen smell quite weedy, by the way.

If you place your dish into a sealed oven roasting bag the smell is greatly diminished, and sometimes completely contained. After decarbing let everything cool down, still sealed up, and when it's cool enough toss it into the freezer for an hour. Then open the bag. All the vapors will settle. You still lose the terpenes, but you don't get that waft of cannabis smell filling your home when you open the bag.

We also have documentation somewhere on these pages that show 245 degrees for an hour is the most efficient timing, but decarb is a function of both time and heat, and I'm convinced that your 30 minutes at 250 is entirely acceptable. The magic numbers appear to be as close to 250 degrees F as possible for at least 30 minutes. I've accidentally decarbed at 225 for 90 minutes and the resulting cannabis knocked me on my butt.

Now is a good time to grind the cannabis; it’s more brittle after decarboxylation, and the more surface area exposed, the more efficiently it will bind to the fat in the coconut oil. I grind to “small particle” size; some people like to go to fine powder, but that makes it extremely difficult to filter later.

It's a fine line between "fine particles" and "powder", but once learned it becomes instinctive.

Measure out the oil. Coconut oil is solid at less than 76°F, but a tablespoon is still a tablespoon.

Now put the oil and ground cannabis directly into your Little Dipper or into an uncovered mason jar (which can withstand heat) in the top of a double boiler or in a water bath (in an inch or two of boiling water in a low pan) or in a pie plate in a 200°F oven or in a-Crock-Pot set on warm (it’s lower than low) with at least 2 or 3 inches of water in it,. The idea is to safely heat the mixture to between 180°F-and 220°F so that the cannabinoids will be dissolved in-the oil.

This means you could process this using the technique of 36 hours in the oven on the lowest setting with regular agitation. That method proved to be so easy to do and required nothing more than the jar and an oven.

Anywhere from 1/2 to 6 hours is recommended by a variety of people; I happened to use 3 hours my first time, but I’ve regularly made many successful batches in only 90 minutes. If you’re using the water method, be sure to check the water regularly so that it doesn’t boil out, breaking your jar and ruining all your work and material. Stir every 20 minutes or so.

When you’re done, or just bored with this, you’ll have some lovely green fluid. Let it cool down to 100°F or so (the idea is not to burn yourself!) and then you can filter out the plant material (using a coffee filter and a garlic press or potato ricer to squeeze out every last drop). Now you fill the “large end” of the capsules by using an oral syringe.

If you're doing this on a regular basis pipettes work well. Inexpensive and disposable. I went with the 3ml size, but next time I'll try something larger. What size syringe do you use for this step? It was either panacea or fookinel that mentioned using a 60ml syringe for filling his capsules. This sounds like an excellent idea for making capsules.

I’ll assume you have access to something like a-Cap-M-Quikfiller to hold the capsule halves up (you won’t need the optional tamper unless you want to experiment with putting powder into capsules too). If you’re really on a low budget, a buddy suggested-plastic ammo boxes-will work.

Don’t try to fill the capsules all the way or too fast; let the oil settle so any bubbles go out while you work on the next capsule, then when you’ve gotten them all, go back if necessary. Be sure to push hard enough to feel the “click” when putting the small end of the capsule on, so you know it’s sealed properly.

I've gotten to be pretty quick about filling, and one day I noticed there's a line at the top of the large end of the capsules to stop at. Of course, I always add another drop or two. :laughtwo:

Dry your hands and gently wipe off the capsules as you take them out and put them away (ideally into a pill bottle in the refrigerator, where the-capsules will solidify, helping prevent leaks). Oh, and rinse everything you used off with hot water-nowbefore the oil re-solidifies!

For cleanup, nothing beats paper towels and 90% ISO.

The last step is from Space Oddity by David Bowie: “Now it’s time to try the capsule if you dare…”--I found mine to be just right for me; a bit of a surprisingly sharp peak for about 15 minutes, but after that quite easy to handle.

I'm so thrilled these are working for you, and thank you for sharing the process with us. Another tool in the healing cabinet. I'll be taking a course soon on using Cannabis to treat anxiety and depression. If I come across anything I think might help you I'll shoot you a PM. Eventually they'll be a thread dedicated to the course information. I won't be able to get to the course for another week or so though. Still catching up with life.

I've found using capsules to be the most effective for to my lifestyle. I don't ever think about needing to smoke anything until after midnight. It's so freeing to have found a way to keep my mind and personality where I want them by taking two capsules a day. What a blessing.

While we're on the subject of oil, I got a recipe recently from a member doing a stealthy grow, so he can't post this himself. He'd trimmed up his flowering girls and used the immature trim to make a quick batch of oil that turned out to be an excellent med to bring his ADD brain back into focus for hours.

So I trimmed the girls well and took my fresh trim and made some olive oil. The brownies I made are working really well for focus. I think I have something here for my ADD friends!!!

I made it with trim from about 30 days into flower. I took most of the fans off. I ended with about 100+g of fresh trim.

Put that in an oven bag @ 240 degrees for 40 minutes. Then into the freezer.

The next day, I chopped the trim coarsely and put it in the MB2. 100 g + 1qt olive oil (3g / oz) and 4T liquid sunflower Lecithin. 4 hours @ 160.

I strained it through a fine kitchen strainer (not the MB2 strainer). It left very small particles of plant matter, but since I am using it to make brownies, it is fine. I use the Pillsbury brownie mix that uses 2/3 c of oil, so when I cut the pan into 24, each brownie has about 1.5t of oil. For this batch, 1 brownie is keeping me focused for 4+ hours (not really high, just more energy and focus). This should make some fun CCO when it is ready!!!

It'll be interesting to see what kind of results he sees with CCO made from these strains.

Good morning Our guardian angel, hope things are awesome in your world!! We're picking up 4 oz today so hopefully in the next few days we can start making up some meds. Lol don't go hide on us now, promise we will only ask a few questions and only if we have too.

Blessed Buds our friend

You consider me your personal resource in this endeavor. I'll be certain to stick close by and check in regularly. I am here for you, understand? You couldn't be a bother to me if you tried. :battingeyelashes:

Thanks for the tips Sue. Looking forward to hearing more about the course.

Have fun reading I love every minute of it!

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

My friend with a brain tumor is OK with having polio injected into his tumor and doing chemo but refused to take the CCO capsules I made for him. He is still smoking occasionally. I tried explaining they weren't for getting high that they were to help with symptoms and possibly help get rid of the bad cell's while helping the good cell's but he wasn't having it. I wasn't holding out hope but did have a tiny amount of hope that it would help. We do have other friends with pain issues that don't want to be on opiates who we are sharing the CCO with per their request and will let you know how it works for them.

Thanks again sue for all of your help!

Nice to see that you are still working this problem, tenacity gets rewarded with results. I am still looking for a dosage amount for edible cannabis oil treatment. Have you seen such a thing? Rick Simpson suggested a gram a day, or perhaps 2 a day, depending what you read, against active disease, but reduced to a "maintenance dose" after the disease has been eliminated. Numbers, we need numbers and at least a few case studies, to understand if there is an optimum dose. Evidence would be nice, in the absence of scientific studies. As a reminder, I'm the guy who has been making and taking edible oil for about 4 years, attempting to prevent the regrowth of a brain tumor that was surgically removed. Making the oil at home has become easier after doing it a few times and the rate of ethanol recovery, using the small still, is improved to around 80%. I find that a half gram dose of an all-CBD strain's oil in the AM and a 200-350mg dose of THC containing oil in the PM is tolerable, with minor side effects. The most noticeable effects are low blood pressure and decreased balance/coordination. Recently I grew some GDP and find it to be an excellent strain for smoking on it's own and the extracted oil is about what you would expect, quite strong and sedative. Best wishes to the medical pioneers in Study Hall.

circuit, what a pleasant surprise. :hugs: We'll be working on this one for a while. I haven't yet found any information on maintenance dosing other than generic references to amounts all over the place. The rumblings in the medical community have been about doses being too high, if anything. Without lab data to pull from we're still wandering blind there. If I come across anything, now that you've alerted me to the need, I'll be sure to forward it to your FB page.

Will you still be checking there periodically?

Thanks ween. Frustrating, isn't it? I have a cousin dying from cancer right now. Couldn't get any takers there either. They opted for radiation instead, and yesterday they sent this relatively young woman home to die. We can't force it on them, nor would we want to. That's unfortunate, since cannabinoids are proven cancer-killers without side effects.

As you quickly discovered though, there's no shortage of suffering people looking for relief. The meds never go to waste.

Hi SweetSue, yes, I check fb routinely, been looking for ways to improve the method that I use, but haven't had any coherent comments about improving the process. After a few years of daily dosing I can report no serious negatives, just lower blood pressure and some balance issues. The key to getting past half a gram per day was discovering the no-low THC strain called "Wife". It has replace Charlotte's Web in my garden because it has more CBD, less THC and is easier to grow. I try to keep a couple of those going along with a GDP or a Blue Dream. Getting the garden down to a few minutes a day has made this much easier. I see that you are a fan of skin treatment with the oil, can you comment on how it compares to the usual cortizone cremes? My experiments with topical application led to an unexpected discovery about preservatives in skin lotion, that you need them. Not the bad kind with parabens, but the more modern types like Optiphen. Transdermal delivery is an area that I am interested in, looking for a pain relief creme. I am currently testing a frankincense spray on my knees and leg muscles. All I can say for sure is that it has a strong aroma.:Namaste:
