SweetSue's Cannabis Oil Study Hall

I guess I'll need to do some Rick Simpson oil now as well to compare it vs FHO and vs low n slow dried 36hr Oil

I have some more CBDutch treat from same plants I did the current oils from, so should have plenty to do a test run, and a fifth of Everclear in my pantry as well.

In the name of science of course

Of course. Hahaha!

Thank you so much 18myweedie5. Someday you'll have to explain the username. :battingeyelashes:

A couple things caught my eye on my way down the page.
* CBD doesn't have a set boiling point, but a range, between 160-180 degrees C (320-356 degrees F)
* Both THC and CBD, and likely all of the components will sublimate off at lower temps. Thank you KR for that earlier explaination that allowed me to understand immediately what he was talking about. :hugs:
* Boiling point is set, decarboxylation, as we all know, is a function of temperature and time. Put your buds into a jar and set that jar into a water bath maintained at 80 degrees C (186 degrees F) for four hours and you'll decarb your cannabis.

:battingeyelashes: That little gem of information will come in real handy with the FHO. We've been brainstorming for ways to lose the hot oil bath, and this confirms that what ShiggityFlip did with his pressure cooker and water bath did indeed decarb his oil.

WHOOT!!!! :yahoo: Ever closer to the prize. :woohoo:

I just got really excited there. :laughtwo: This has been an extraordinarily productive day, filled with delicious bits of wonder from start to finish. :slide:

Guys, I love what we do. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

I'll be rethinking that pressure cooker any day now. :laughtwo: I could stand to use the hot oil bath just as a check, and only if it's necessary to get maximum decarb for the oil to meet the need.

Great! Im glad you were able to take something away from it! :volcano-smiley:
And my screen name. we all know the term "eat your wheaties". well i eat my weedies! it was my xbox live screen name for a long time. thought of it during a stoner moment lol! :yummy::yummy::party:

Ya, I feel oil baths are the best extraction method when trying to avoid expensive equiptment or using dangerous chemicals or methods. and i believe that with a pressure cooker using a combination of high pressure and low temp, you can achieve a near percise decarb. cant wait to start playing around!!!! eventually i want to invest in a nice rosin press to extract full spectrum rosin and use the pressure cooking meathod to process my left over bisquits!

Green Flower Media is having a CBD summit on Saturday, August 12th, from 9AM to 12 PM, PST. I can't link it, but you all know how to google. :battingeyelashes:

I might just have to check this out!

Have you visited Green Flower before? If not, prepare to be amazed. They've made it their place to educate the masses away from prohibitionary mindsets into a new cannabis world. They're one of my favorite resources.

I have a subscription that allows me full access of their regular classes, many of which have been transformed into threads on site. They offer master classes too. I'm hoping to eventually get into the class on Cannabis Medicine. I keep missing the enrollment. Lol! Haven't yet coordinated time and money.

I thought I would share this - perhaps some of you have seen it. It's another method for testing THC, CBD, etc. This was in an email from Ardent, who makes the Ardent Nova decarboxilaytor (sic) machine. Decarboxylation Made Easy - Ardent Cannabis

"Hi Ardent Fam,

We know that dosing your edibles is complicated. The first step is proper decarboxylation, but what about when you then infuse or extract? Knowing the final dose of your oil or butter is key to preparing enough medicine for your needs. It will also help you avoid "super dosing" incidents that, while not physically dangerous, can be uncomfortable and scary.

There are 3 ways to figure out the strength of your edibles: The taste test. The lab test. The new tCheck.

1. The Taste Test

Taste testing to check the potency of your edibles is the tried and (un)true method. With many medicines, the effects are felt quickly, making it easy for a patient to determine whether they need to administer more. With edibles, it’s a little different.
It often takes an hour or more for edibles to take effect. An excessive dose can lead to an unpleasant feeling that can last for hours. Several trials or guesses may be required to find the perfect amount. This process is repeated with every batch of edibles you make.

2. The Lab Test

Labs use equipment such as chromatographers and spectrometers to achieve the most accurate measurements of all molecular compounds in your edible.
For the home baker, the cost for a test can be prohibitive, and it can take several ways to receive your results. Most patients don't have access to labs, but still need a reliable method for dosing products made at home.

3. The At Home Potency Test - tCheck

tCheck measures the strength of your infusions. Using just a few drops of butter, coconut oil, olive oil, or alcohol, you can accurately measure the potency in about 45 seconds. With this information, you can adjust your recipe to dose your edibles consistently every time.
Under the hood, tCheck is a revolutionary spectrometer that uses light technology to accurately measure cannabinoids your infusions so you can consume the exact amount you need. Every time. No waiting. No guessing.
