i have made ND Sap (using growgoddesses method) a few times. First, let me say that I am not the expert. I learned from growgoddesses and would recommend connecting with her for advice. I have decarbed the material first (oven, at 220-240°F for 60-90 minutes) and sometimes just run it without decarbing and I'm not sure I can tell the difference.Thank you Chew. Take a deep breath and move on. It still shows promise, if CCO is what you're after, but it'd be nice if someone else got good results. I think medmanmike had success, but he's not fond of the bite it had. KR is still decarbing his, I believe.
I may try it in the future, when I have enough plant material not spoken for, but my current focus is on drying low and slow and fresh harvest infused oil.
Thank you for trying. I know how frustrating it was.

There are three things I don't like about it: 1) preparing it: making the effort to extract the solvent without using any heat. In my experience every batch is very different (maybe strain related?) as to how it comes out: sometimes there's a lot of water mixed in; removing the "dried" sap from the container is arduous and messy; often, there is so little sap produced that it doesn't seem worth it. 2) I personally don't like how it makes me feel: I would describe it as "hard" or "edgy". I feel drugged in a not so good way. It's not necessarily overly speedy and I really don't experience any paranoia, but the overall feeling is not pleasant. 3) having to wait 3-4 months for it to naturally Decarb (ND).
I've moved away from this method and instead use a mix of different methods. I do prefer a QWET extraction, but instead of letting it air dry I apply a little heat, just enough to see the solvent evaporating (vapors). I will generally use a double boiler or rice cooker to do the main reduction (using an oil bath, never over 220° F)and then move it to a coffee warmer to finish it, being very careful that it doesn't boil. Sometimes it will just bubble slightly so I wait for those to disappear.
I just finished a batch of Indica dom trim - sugar and fan leaves. These strains - blueberry, northern lights and whiet widow averaged over 20% total Cannabinoids. I'm assuming the trim/fans leaves were around 15%. As a test, I made up a cap with the oil that weighed 0.06g, (yes, 0.06) not including the weight of the cap. For me, it was too much. Hard, edgy, etc.
I much prefer the Bio-Bomb method that Sue pioneers and will use my QWET oil in the recipe. Much smoother, more mellow, more pleasant. Yesterday I took some coconut infused oil (BioBombs) I had made up from similar trim. This product at a 20:1 ratio didn't do anything for me so I took .6g of QWET oil that I had and mixed it in with the coconut infused oil/BioBomb and made up a .5g cap. Much smoother, though not very potent. Today I upped it .6g and obtained a nice, mild effect. Tomorrow I will fill a 00 cap (approx .9g) and see how that goes. (I know the quantities seem very similar, but it's purely coincidental.)
Again, I would defer to growgoddess as she has much more experience with ND Sap than I do. Hope this helps.
That was very helpful Mike. We have a connection to GG through Facebook when the time comes for anyone to track her down.
Are you considering trying the fresh harvest infused oil Mike? I truly believe it rivals CCO. It took me a month to get to the point where the tolerance levels allowed me to get three 00 capsule doses a day in again. Today's the first time, in fact. I find this oil a cleaner high, almost as though it's communicating with my body better. It's really hard to describe, but it's become my preferred choice. Nothing else compares, to be honest.
The daughter and I believe some of her more dramatic healing indicators started after starting on the fresh harvest oil. I'm pretty committed to keeping a CBD Critical Cure going at all times, just to keep everyone supplied with the oil and capsules.
Yup. Fresh oil extract in about 4 weeks
Side note on fresh infused oil making. I buried the remains in a pile of soil like I do with remains from making CCO. Recycling the nutes back to the plants.
A few days ago my wife called me at work and send me a video of her wobbly Corgi. I thought she might have found one of my pills, but I've been very good about keeping track of them, not leaving them in my pockets, on the counter, etc. Other possibility was that she had eaten my dog's food that had a few drops of oil (because she's getting old and stiff and I wanted to see if it would help.) That wouldn't have been enough to affect my wife's dog that much though. But I convinced my wife that her dog would be fine and just sleep it off, and she did for most of 24 hours in and out. She naps a lot of the day anyway.
Last night I discovered what really happened. As I was taking the remains of a new batch out I saw a hole in dirt pile where somebody dug out the good stuff. I've noticed the fresh oil leftovers smell a lot better than CCO leftovers. Apparently dogs think so too.
Happy ending, the corgi is fine (if anything she's even bouncier today), the carpet is fine (that much green matter has some nasty consequences on a dog's digestive tract) and now that it's cleaned up my marriage is fine.
The heated hair straightener is a neat one-step technique for extracting rosin from dried buds. Can this rosin be turned into a fluid that can substitute for CCO and be packaged in capsules for medicating? I'm wondering will fresh rosin dissolve in warm olive oil?
There will be waxes and inevitable plant matter in the product, but of no consequence when filling capsules.
Thanks.
An intelligent rebuttal to budwashing
I was enjoying Pigeon's wake 'n bake video and he started discussing a response to this his budwashing video posted the other day. It intrigued me enough that I wanted to bring the conversation here. If what he says is true, we need to rethink our practice.
"While I like the idea of this a lot especially for flavor and purity, as an actual scientist I simply can't let it slip! Let me explain people...
I'd simply just use a mild hydrogen peroxide water mix. It's just as natural and actually does what you want, is extremely effective at killing microbes, and naturally foams when it reacts with such helping to clear debris...this happens on a chemical level basically meaning every spot it touches is near instantly sanitized and microscopic debris lifts up with the bubbles. If this reaction is strong enough you see lots of bubbles, hence why your cuts foam.
The lemon juice as an antiseptic is not accurate. If anything the sulfur dioxide (sulfite) in the plastic bottle lemon juice is doing the sanitation. It's the same stuff erupted from volcanoes, burned off of petroleum, and is known as a mild nerve agent which blocks signals to the pulmonary system. I don't make this up look for yourself. If you're going for natural you need to stop using that. They are preservatives and fungicides, also likely why you don't mold when you do this , and why they dry faster. The sulfite so cause faster drying. You will not wash it all off, it's as simple as that. Actual lemon juice has an extremely mild effect on preventing further growth of bacteria due to its ascidic nature but will not kill anything directly unless extreme pH fluctuations (fluctuations being key) cause death but you would need much more concentrated solutions with 5 gallons of water. That being said, you're neutralizing the acid with the alkaline baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). Thus you are not sanitizing anything and the only effect you have left is the supposed "foaming" action. But the 1 cup of baking soda to 5 gallons of water doesn't come close to saturating the water. This means you have a full dilution and no granular to "blast" the dirt off. Unless you shake it like a mad man you will not create enough friction between the suspended particles and the water which means it won't bubble or foam enough to do anything widespread across all surface areas. Most of those bubbles are localized air bubbles you've introduced by bobbing the bud up and down. This is not an effective way to get dust and microbes off-maybe for large debris like bugs and dirt chunks. You'd really have to shake it and it won't work well, especially not that gentle caress you're giving it!
With that said, if you think it does all that then I won't stop ya! Right on brother!" - ACElectro Alex
I don't know about you, but it made me sit right up and rethink the process.
Peroxide is suggested for the first wash if mold is present. Could this be all we need, followed by the two plain water washes, and would the dilution suggested by Doc be effective? We have some scientists among us. Any ideas on this?
Subbed. I am a new member and have a strong interest in learning all I can about cannabis oil. I look forward to reading this thread from page 1. Thank you!
I'm still waiting for the young man to bring me some canna meds! I know he works long outside hours this time of year, but I'm getting really impatient to try some good stuff! Hopefully his boss will come by today needing some eggs, and I'll get to stir him up a bit - his boss's wife uses for her pain and agreed to let me have some. But, I want it NOW!
I went for a heart stress test last week ( not fun, even though it was the nuclear type, not the treadmill). Primary care Dr called and wants me to see a cardiologist - wouldn't give me a concise report, so I'm not sure what it showed, have to wait for the other Dr. I guess. I decreased the prednisone to 7.5 mg this week, (started at 15 mg - for 5 months) so far don't see any reduction in the shortness of breath, nor any weight loss. Sure want to be off it!
Hey Buddy!!! Here as a start. I recent article from USA Today about what they are doing in Israel. Marijuana may be a miracle treatment for children with autism. Also here is something. 420autism, Managing Autism with Cannabis.
Hope this is a start for you.
