As to your question about an extraction fan, here is my humble opinion... I'll try to keep it short
When looking into fans, it's the CFM or Cubic Feet per Minute, that you are looking for. Also, a fan that someone says is super quiet is going to seem very loud at first, just so you know.
ok, so How tall is your grow tent? Multiply 2x4x(Height) of grow tent an that number will tell you how many CFM you need to change the air in the room once per minute. If your room is hot you would want to change the air 3-5 times a min.
I suggest getting a fan that is a little bigger than your current needs. Chances are you will grow some pot, and like that pot. Then you will want to grow more pot and you'll want to expand your setup, this way you wont have to buy EVERYTHING all over again.
Check Amazon, I was going to grab one from them for just under $90, but I was able to get my local hydro shop to match the price.

I am also a newbie but live in the Midwest (kind of like Stalinist Russia!). I have purchased a small grow tent 2x4, 3 45 watt CFLS, a Jumpstart grow bulb (from my tomato days), an my new purchase an Advanced 100 watt LED. I don't use them at the same time. The big plant in my pictures is a fruit punch, and the two little ones are Gnomo and Skunk. My real issue at this point is ventilation. I am looking for a cheap but effective inline ventilation fan, any ideas who be helpful.

Hope everyone's world is green and frosty this morning.
Well I was unable to post it when I woke up, but I did manage to snap a picture of Minty about 11 hours after training......
First a recap of what she looked like last night right after training.
Roughly 11 hours later....
So she seems to have taken very well to the training

Not sure on the timing of cutting clones, I can't even remember right now how long my plants had vegged before I did it. I know it was a long time, but that was only because I was still in the building process on the grow room.

Good morning everybody! I hope you are all having a wonderfully burning down some sweet buds!
I am hoping to get a photo shoot with the goils at some point today. They are getting SO big now, I can barley contain myself.
Pretty sure Hope is not going to make it. Dolly is still very iffy as well. The other 4 girls look exactly the same as they did. I'm not expecting the clones to do much at this point. I hope I'm wrong, and that any day they start growing.
I figure I've got at least a month, before the autos are done and I can flip Minty. Minty is a pretty good size for being a month in, with her training she's got 10 tops. By the time Minty flips, she's gonna be huge. Then I have a negative thought and remember that Minty, could be a boy, then what am I gonna do?
SO, last night I dropped 4 more seeds
3 were of the shit-ton of seeds my buddy gave me. And the fourth was a Casey Jones bagseed. The three should be the same strain as Minty. and I do like that. She's such a beautiful and resilient little plant the thought of having more of her around is a nice one. This Casey Jones bag I'm currently smoking is real stony. I am looking forward to having more of this weed around for sure.
It's funny, I've been getting my weed from the same dude for a long time now, and have NEVER found a seed in the bag before. Then I start to seriously think about growing and all of a sudden I'm finding seeds in bags of really good weed. Weird. I think it means it's what I'm supposed to do.
So, I expect 4 of the clones to go all the way, but I don't think they will get very big. Minty I hope to be the real deal big yielder. Hopefully the 4 seeds will pop and be girls, if they get close to Minty size in a month, they should supplement the clones a little.
Right now, I've got almost 3 plants in pre-flower, 1 awesomely large plant, 4 clones with a solid chance, and 4 seeds about 12 hours in the dirt. When you look at it on paper, my grow looks a lot crazier then it feels in life. At this point I don't feel like I'm in over my head. I know that can and probably will change when I flip the lights, but right now, I feel really good about the grow and how it's going.
I wouldn't be feeling/doing this well with this project if it weren't for all of your inspiration, guidance, and knowledge. Thanks You RULE!!

Ok, the clone saga continues....
So just as I was finishing up the photo shoot I decided that I was going to shoot the clones too. When I reached for the clones I somehow spooked the stupid jerk cat of mine and she jumped and knocked over all the clones. Fortuna practically flew out of her rockwool cube, so I looked and noticed that she didn't have any roots poking out, or any white bumps to indicate that there would be roots soon or ever. UGH! They have been very slowly dying this whole time. Poor little things. I rushed to wally world and got the missing components to the bubble cloner. Cloner is up and running the clones are in there right now and I am hoping for the best and expecting nothing.
Man, I cant believe there wasn't 1 root on any of the plants. How have they been alive for a month? Well, hopefully they pull through. I don't think it'll take long to find out at this point.
If these guys don't work out, I'll take some clones from Minty if she shows lady bits, and give them a short veg, but score a few colas nonetheless.
What do you guys think? What would you do? drop more seeds? Take a couple cuttings from minty and clone em?
I'd hit up my buddy for more, but I feel like a horses ass killing every single one of them, possibly
