Surfbuddy's GLR 2L DWC-H Coco Lowryder - Big Bud - BubbleGum - Northern Lights

sorry surf buddy, i know my visit is long over due. But as you know Ive been very busy with the gardeN! Glad to see things are great over here! beautiful healthy plants! I like the diminishing light Idea. 12/12 is a very knowledged grower and not much of what he said was false. :Namaste:

Hey Deeg, thanks for stopping by. I know how easy it is to get sucked into the vortex of the garden... it happens so fast, but then it's suddenly four hours later :) A little pluck here, a trim there.. oh, and good luck with those autos!

I'm a believer in the Diminishing Light Schedule! I might start doing it every 6 days instead of 7 to quicken things up a bit.

12/12 was/is full of knowledge. I hope everything falls into alignment for him, and good vibes find him always.

You got me thinking... hmmmm, what was he mistaken about? LOL I have seen mixed reviews of GLR, so of course to each his/her own. What works for one may not work for another, but both GLR and DLS have been working so far for me. Oh yeah, and that 2L-DWC-H thing. LOL

UPDATE:
DAY 20 12/12 DAY 16 FLOWER
First batch still drinking and happy, but res ends up at 7.5+. I filled it to 20% runoff but pH was still at 7.3 so I dumped it out today for all res's and refilled all with 5.3 water with full strength nutes, about 1450 ppm. Yes, It may seem hot, but that's what I've been running them at with nute water water. I'm considering cutting it in 3/4 to try to keep it under 1K.

Thoughts about this? Anyone else running full stregnth week 7 --- 2Part +Blue and getting high ppm's like 1450?

Here is the NL. It recovered OK from when it fell on the flouros, but the other side is more robust, of course. It's starting to show trichs on the middle third of the plant, and the BigBud is even more so. I'm quite pleased with the BigBud, actually. It has that smell I remember from the early nineties and is much much hairier and furrier and fuzzier (what I call trichome coverage) than the Northern Lights. Compared to these two the BubbleGum has been a letdown. Slower in veg and flower, it is barely 2/3 the height, with less nodes, and only a handful of hairs. Of course, it was FIM/Topped and has 6 Kolas (but two are being shaded). Anyway, Back to NL:

To deal with the higher temps from the new CFLs I put in, I made a CO2 generator. here it is hanging above and spitting out infront of the oscillating tower fan.
DIYco2GEN2012-05-28_21-35-3.jpg

The new crop. Three BigBud clones from the most vigorous in flower, and one NL from the one in the pic above. The big bud clones seemed thinner when I took them, but they actually rooted first. One NL clone still hasn't popped roots from the cube, and it's under 24/7 blue LED light. The seedlings left are Liberty Haze and Kosher Kush, each with two sets of leaves. The Stacked Kush is really sad and I think is overwatered? It was in a DWC, but then it fell over, so I pulled it out. I guess I am trying to transfer it too early. Or not deep enough. A similar thing happened with the Kosher Kush, but I buried it in coco. Didn't want to do that with hydroton.

Any advice about that seedling is greatly appreciated

Tomorrow is DEFOLIATION DAY! I already set the timer to shut off a half hour earlier. That makes 13 hour nights starting tomorrow. Speaking of timers. The GLR mechanical timer is getting farther and farther off, almost a 1/2 hour now. Kind of irritating. I've already set it 1/2 hour once to keep it more aligned.

Also, I'm gonna pop some seeds in a couple days, probably the G13 Hash, Stacked Kush (if this one doesn't make it), Breakout (P.O.W. x Rocky Mountain High), Pineapple Chunk, Critical Kush, and maybe an Auto Blue Mammoth (AK47 x Blueberry) if the Stacked Kush makes it. Gotta love those free seeds! I'm trying to find which strain I want to perpetuate, and so far it seems like the Bigbud is the one, but she will have some competition! The 2L DWC-H seem perfect for this task... if I could just clear out my flower room, it's so full! Hurry up!

SB whats the conv factor on your tds meter? If it's .700 1450 is totally fine. If it's .500 that is high. I use 2 part and blue, and calmag, B52, and hygrozyme and get 1300's with a .500 meter using ro water of less than 10 ppm.

Hey, looking awesome Surfbuddy!!!

I too was using the GLR until my HPS decided it didn't want to turn on in the mornings anymore. I would have to unplug it and then let it sit for 1 to 2 hours then plug it back in and it was fine. I stopped using GLR and it is still doing it just not as often without that extra turn on. I want to find the issue so I can use the GLR again next time!!

Hey Bassman. Conv factor is .500 and I'm not using calmag or B52, but am using tap. But I actually already took out the 100ppm for tap. With tap I'm at 1550 (BPN 2part +blue, hygrozyme, h202) using the bloom schedule from the website (10 veg, 20 bloom, 5 boost) Plants don't seem to be burning, but I figure I'm just throwing nutes away.

Titan makes digital timers. They run 19.95 and work excellent. I have them on all 6 of my lights. Apollo 9's They have so many different settings you can use it unimaginable lol
Nice A1. I'll have to check those out. I have a digital timer for my flower room, but my GLR is on a mechanical one. Would be nice to have them all on one though...

Thanks James. Bummer about the HPS, 12/12 mentioned something about that saying to use a separate timer with a CFL on it for the 1 hour to extend the life of your ballasts I think, but I too am just blasting them during the one hour, albeit with T8's

Thanks for stopping by!

... Auto Blue Mammoth (AK47 x Blueberry) ...

This has been an... Interesting point of discussion elsewhere, but Barney's Farm (the breeder of Blue Mammoth).. Does not list Blue Mammoth as AKx BB x Ruderalis... One seedbank, and one database for strains does... However, Single Seeds (a sponsor) and the Barney's Farm website list the genetics as following..
Skunk #1 x Blue Cheese x Siberian Ruderalis

I'm currently growing one.. Honestly, hearing it has Blue Cheese in it sounds better than straight blueberry in my book!

Your plants look great! Sometimes seedlings are funky.. Don't sweat it bro. I've had about three seedlings kill themselves, rare occurrence.. But nature/genes don't always give you a good hand.

DIY co2 dispenser:

2L soda bottle
hot nail to make a hole in top
gorilla tape to seal the hole that i made too big by a fraction of a milimeter (not gonna open a new tube of alex just yet)
4 feet of silicone tubing

mix consists of
3 cups lukewarm 80deg water
1 cup sugar
1 packet active dry yeast

using a string to keep the 2L upright

output of 2L will be in front of oscilating fan to spread the love around

Photos to come when lights come on

Might wanna get a little more tubing, and run it into the box along the trunks and poke pin holes along the length where there are plants. As pressure builds it will be forced from the pin holes right nuder the plants and your fan will stir up the air and mix it into the canopies. just make the holes a tiny but larger toward the end. At the end of the tubing, fold it back on itself and crimp it down with a twist tie.

well that's 3.1 e.c. That's pretty hot. My flyer says 8/20 mix on A & B. You might want to add plain water or even ro only as you add some daily to get the e.c. down.

You're right. Barney's farm would have the right genetics for the seed it breeded. lol. Though after reading it, I might wait till I get a male and save pollen to perpetuate that one with a cross. Because I don't have enough going on already LOL.

Thanks Thsea. Feeling pretty good about the teens. Gonna have some popcorn for sure, but some producers as well. They sure look different now after defol. See below.

I've seen others do it this way, just seemed like the fan would blow it everywhere anyway. But I guess there's a reason why more experienced growers are doing it that way :) My shit isn't even foaming unless I shake it. It foamed all of one day. Gonna add sugar (gotta get some) and if that doesn't work, restart with fresh yeast.

The website says 10/20 for bloom and I'm using 5 of the blue. It does seem hot. Maybe I'll keep the ratio but knock it down to 3/4 stregnth.
It does make sense to just feed less instead of nute water water... although the big bud emptied the res at 1550ppm and I had filled it up way past the cap, almost 1/2 of the bottle top was under water.

Update with pics to follow.

I zipped the tent up after water and defol. They were looking a little upset, but I know they will come back strong.

I'm planning to reveg the NL and Bigbud... any thoughts on this? I just want to take more clones to ensure I get a good mother.

No need to restart. The foam is just over-activity. As the yeast multiplies and respires, it will give off the CO2. This does not always cause foam, but it will cause a beer smell. The foaming part is what makes bread rise. The next phase, reproduction, is what makes beer, (and the head when poured). If agitated, it may make a bit more foam, but this is really not needed. Just keep adding sugar, as this is what yeast eats to live. The byproduct of this is alcohol and CO2.

Bump to top of page.
