Stunger Tries Trough Growing And Attempts Fluxing On His Organic Living Soil Balcony

Young and dumb and full of...pollen, right?

Beautiful pics Stunger.
Thanks Joe!
Porn , nice photography you dirty bugger 🤣🤣
Haha, cheers Abs!
That male has stretched since last photo , youll have plenty pollen there bro🤙✌️
Thanks Uncle! Yes I noticed quite an increase in pollen balls from a week ago.
Nice. He really dropped a load sheesh.
Cheers Lerugged! I didn't want to cut off any sprays before the first ones began to open.
Thanks Otter!
Good morning Stung!

Looks like you’re gonna end up with seeds for dayzzzzzz
Cheers Tra! When I have done this previously, I have tended to get several hundred seeds from selectively pollinating just 2 or 3 lesser stems. It doesn't take much!
The trough ladies are doing great- they seem to love it in there..👍

I'm not sure who did the counting, but google says that each male flower

can produce 350,000 pollen grains...so you should be set for awhile...🤪
Thanks Carcass! Altho I planned my soil mix and had it ready months before I started. I got a chest infection that laid me low and I really struggled to shake it, so I ended up only getting the trough ready just days before shifting the plants in. But yeah, thankfully they settled and adjusted fine.

That's a lot of pollen grain eh. For this run, I won't be producing the copious quantity that I managed 2 years ago but it'll be more than enough regardless. If successful it should make some lovely crosses.
Sounds like me, back in college! 🤣🤣🤣

Those were the days eh! :smokin::headbanger:

Update - Trough pics

Greetings 420 enthusiasts!

We've had a couple of days of rain but not a lot. Just prior to the rain so it would help get it into the soil, I sprinkled a couple of tablespoons of Herbi's Bloom 2-8-4 upon the mulch of each plant. I did similar about 3 weeks ago but I forgot to journal it at time.

The Frozen Black Cherry is well into flowering now and finished her stretching.

The Super Lemon Haze is finally in budset with established pompoms, I think she has also finished her stretching.

The Mulanje Sherbert is only just coming into budset, her pompoms are just about established but not fully. She has stretched beyond where I would prefer her. I may tie her down further, but I am not super comfortable putting too much tension on her due to past experiences that have made me suspicious that this can over stress the plant. With training, I'd probably prefer to supercrop her instead. However for a change, I would very much like to let her grow out her buds as nice straight 'spears' or 'bats', so I may do nothing and chance it. Her top growth is now just over the wooden balcony rails and pushing the stealth limits a bit, but it would probably be hard for anyone to discern from any distance.

Thanks for dropping by. I hope your own gardens are going great!

Looking good 👍

Fingers crossed she is not going to stretch any more.

Thanks guys! Hopefully she's near finished.
Thats alot of counting , wouldn't want to lose count half way 🤣 , a job done better when straight , lol
Cheers Uncle! Yep, they say a pinch of it can pollinate a field.
Looking good 👍
Thanks Zeb!
Plants are looking happy out there! Do you think this canopy is going to end up wall to wall like the last ones, and do you have lots left over from last year?
Cheers Shed! They are already bigger than I expected given that I started them later, it is amazing how much growth you can get in a month. The trough allows me to fully open both doors, so they are contained much more than the potted plants of previous years.

Last year due to my over watering I only really managed a harvest of the Mulanje Sherbert. In spite of having some very nice bud left over from the previous year, the Mulanje Sherbert is all I have smoked vaped and consumed as cob. I think I got just over half a pound and yet I still have over half of her jarred bud and 2 out of the 3 cobs I made remain. The high lasts a long time and I find I don't have to 'top up' as often. But I am looking forward to trying out the 2 new strains I am growing this year!

Update - Pollen harvest

Greetings 420 enthusiasts!

We're still basking in sunny warm days here, and long may it continue. :surf:

A week ago I cut off the majority of the pollen sprays from the male Mulanje Sherbert. It is now showing as many again. It is amazing how quick the growth profusion of pollen balls has been after just one week.

Initially it didn't look like very much pollen that had fallen onto the sheet of oven paper that I was using to collect what fell.

The water in the glass that they were standing in had dried up over the recent days, and the sprays now felt quite dry. I lightly rubbed the pollen balls to release any additional pollen not yet fallen, which resulted in visible falls of yellow pollen dust and more shucks of the dried pollen balls to land on the oven paper collection sheet.

I carefully separated out and removed the dried shucks of the pollen balls, because these may still contain moisture which we ideally don't want to be among the pollen dust in case it causes the loss of viability.

What was left was far more than I had first thought. Certainly plenty for a whole field, haha.

I made a small 'collection cup' out of oven paper that I sat in a glass and carefully poured the pollen from the larger collection sheet into. This paper is quite slippery for the pollen which can otherwise cling to plastic or glass surfaces.

Prior to the above harvesting of the pollen, I marked my intended stems for selective pollination by lightly wrapping around them some plastic garden wire of a new colour so I can readily identify which stems I need to look out for to harvest the seeds when the plants are dried.

I intend to selectively pollinate 2 lower/minor stems of both the Frozen Black Cherry and Super Lemon Haze. The former is more advanced in flowering and is in an ideal state for pollination. The SLH is less so, but she should still have enough pistils for at least a few dozen seeds on those 2 stems, I will most likely do a second selective pollination in a week - 10 days time, by then the SLH should have 'fluffed out' a bit.

I was going to use an ear bud to carefully pollinate them earlier. But when I initially shook and rubbed the pollen sprays the light in the room was such that I saw clouds of fine yellow dust rising up in the air most likely coating me. 🥱🤧 So upon reflection I won't open the balcony doors today and will instead do it tomorrow!

Thanks for dropping by. I hope your own gardens are well and your day is going great!
:ganjamon:

Looks like you have enough pollen to pollinate every plant in a 100km radius 🤣
Thanks Joe!
Are you planning to spray down the buds you don't want pollinated when you chuck it?
Cheers Azi! Probably not, I have bagged my chosen buds and watered down previously with no problems of getting unwanted seeds. But I don't plan on 'chucking' it, I intend to carefully dab the chosen buds with a earbud or small artist brush without bagging or watering. Today is windy so I have put my intended selective pollination on hold for some still weather in the coming days.
Its going to be like an Oprah give away ,i think everyone is going to get some 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Abs! I don't imagine there would be much in the way of illicit growing in my area. But hey, there's always a miscreant around! 🕵️‍♂️
Dat's a lot of pollen! Good luck with the distribution system. :)
Cheers Shed! I intend to deliver carefully via an ear bud. However, each microspore can behave like it has its own built in drone.
Thanks Otter!

Update - Progress plant by plant

Greetings 420 enthusiasts!

The trough ladies are continuing to advance in their flowering. I had intended to do some selective pollination today but it is quite windy so I won't, but I hopefully will get the opportunity to do so in the coming days.

Mulanje Sherbert

She is looking good and has started to ramp up her bud development. She was originally topped leaving nodes 2 and 3 on the plant. I then topped her 3rd node to give 6 stems whose even shape I am rather liking now, because I am hoping those stems go on to make some nice straight spears/bats as with my sort of training I don't usually get straight bats.

Compared to last year's Mulanje Sherbert her flowering seemed to be a week to 10 days behind. I initially assumed that was because of her late up-potting into the trough which had caused her a wee delay. But today I noticed her 3rd node pair had split straight down the mainstem. It looks to have happened some time ago because it's quite healed up. However, I put a zip tie around that point to help stabilise the split and hopefully prevent further damage. I have left the majority of the split open as it felt too hard to try and close at this point.

Frozen Black Cherry

She is building lots of sticky buds. As she was initially Fluxed her overall height is still at a great stealth level.

Super Lemon Haze

She has been a slow starter and like the FBC her initial Fluxing training has allowed her to remain nicely within my preferred stealth limits. She is now starting to push out a few more pistils.

Mulanje Sherbert male

Last weekend I cut off the majority of his pollen sprays, after a week he has already grown a lot more. We have rain forecast tonight and tomorrow. There is probably no need to keep him further given that I have already harvested a decent amount. My only hesitation is not knowing how long it stays viable for.

A nearby grow buddy has an interesting collection of strains that he is growing this year and he wants some pollen to make a few crosses too. Amongst his plants he has a Golden Tiger, which so far hasn't really started flowering, but I would love a cross of that with the Mulanje Sherbert, so for the moment I will delay chopping the male in case I want to take a later pollen harvest.

Thanks for dropping by. Keep well and I hope your own gardening efforts are going great!
