Stunger Tries Trough Growing And Attempts Fluxing On His Organic Living Soil Balcony

The plants have filled out consideribly since the last photos even the haze has come along & FBC is packing it , coming along real nice this year , i'm pleased for u , take care & peace to all 🤙✌️
Thanks Uncle!
Boy, you think that long? I'd bet a lot sooner than that so I'd keep a close eye on that one.
I have a feeling Azimuth might be right, that boy's getting ready to pop!
Looking good Stunger
Thanks guys! I agree and I imagine the initial eruption of pollen balls will begin soon, but my problem is that because the plant is outside in the elements (breeze/wind/rain). That I can't (or I don't think I can) simply leave a collection receptacle under the pollen balls to collect the pollen dust as it falls, because in the event of any passing rain shower or overnight dampness, it could/would ruin the viability of the pollen. So I have preferred to wait until a sufficient number of pollen balls are about to erupt to maximise my pollen harvest.

In the past I have cut off partial stems with pollen balls that are beginning to open and I have put them inside the house to be over something that the pollen can fall onto/into, that I then can collect. As those cut off partial stems dry more pollen balls open, and then when fully dry there will still be many balls that won't have opened due to their immaturity, but I then manually rub them together to assist releasing pollen from the larger unopened 'almost ready' balls. So with that approach I prefer to wait until I get a 'quorum' of the pollen balls are erupting, so hopefully the remaining unopened balls are not too small and 'green'. Hence, I don't really want to be cutting off stems too soon but hopefully once a number are erupting then that will be a good 'goldilocks' moment to begin.

This way has given me viable pollen in the past, but let me know if you can see a better alternate approach, thanks!

That's how I've done it in the past ^^
but it was a smaller plant, so I cut the whole plant, and hung it upside down in the closet, above a cookie sheet for 4 days or so-- got enough pollen to pollinate about 10 acres...

Good Luck with the pollen harvesting, Stunger!🤞

Ha! I did the single branch in a glass of water hanging over a piece of glass. Pollinated a few buds on one plant and ended up with almost 500 seeds. Doesn't take much!

They're looking great, and I'm thinking the Black Cherry finishes so early you will have time to spread the other two out before they come down!
However, if anyone has a better observational point to decide on that then please let me know.
Yardstick. 📏

"A quorum of erupting balls"...I think it might have been the tag line to a movie playing down the street back in the 80s. :hmmmm:

Thanks Carcass! I just need to judge the optimal time to snip the pollen stems.

Cheers Azi! Yes a little goes a long way.

Thanks Shed! Yes it should allow a bit of space for the other two once she's finished.

Thanks Uncle!

Just 2 cents from me. If you cut the entire plant and pop it into a glass of water with something around it to catch the pollen. It will continue to drop pollen and the immature flowers will mature and drop too.
I use a paper plate with a slit cut to the center. Then you put the branch through the slit and the stem is surrounded by the plate to catch your pollen.
He looks decent though.

Thanks Uncle!

Sounds like you have a great system all worked out. Looking forward to watching everything unfold. CL🍀 :thumb:

Thanks Lerugged! This one may be a tad wider than a paper plate. But I wonder if could move him somewhere under cover and fashion some tinfoil 'collection cups' under the main clusters of pollen balls. I dunno, or maybe I will hedge my bets and try a multi approach!

Cheers CL! Out of necessity I have made seeds a few times but I'm often just bumbling through with fingers crossed!

Stunger, I'm going to say out loud what I'm thinking. I am worried you are going to land up with pollenated weed and take it from me, that seriously sucks. All those months of effort and nurture, only to end up with product that is only good for shitty oil. I wouldn't have a male plant anywhere near my outdoor females. I grew some of LeRugged's strains outside in 2020/21 I could have cried I was so disappointed to discover that they were full of seed and practically nothing else.

If I were you, I'd take LeRugged's advice and chop that male before the pollen gets airborne. Look how Shed has managed to keep that flowering auto cutting going. You can do it with the male.

Sorry if I am overstepping but I have a horrible feeling.

You could always put the glass and plate onto a mirror that's wide enough to catch what the plate does not. Either way you really only need one flower for 100s or 1000s of seeds.
Winning
Thanks Lerugged! Yes, not much is needed for a result.

Cheers Carmen! Over recent years I have placed my 'pollen makers' where this one is now, all without an unwanted seed problem, the male's position is far separated so I'm pretty confident of not getting an unwanted infestation of seeds. 🤞 I would revise my future approach if this works out adversely! But thanks.

Update - Progress plant by plant

Greetings 420 enthusiasts! There are fast occurring changes happening week by week now, yay!

Mulanje Sherbert

Frozen Black Cherry

Super Lemon Haze

Mulanje Sherbert male (pollen for crosses)

The first balls have opened and begun spilling their pollen.

I cut several sprays of pollen balls from the plant, trimmed off their leaves, and placed them in a glass of water with a piece of pumice to hold them in place. I placed a sheet of baking paper underneath to capture the pollen that falls.

Since the photo was taken I added a couple more sprays to the glass. Tonight and tomorrow there is heavy rain forecast so I have taken off about half the pollen sprays from the plant leaving the rest as backup.

Anyway, that's the scores on the doors today, so far so good.

Thanks for dropping in!

Porn , nice photography you dirty bugger 🤣🤣

The trough ladies are doing great- they seem to love it in there..👍

I'm not sure who did the counting, but google says that each male flower

can produce 350,000 pollen grains...so you should be set for awhile...🤪
