Stinky Snid's Nursery & Flower Shop - Welcome To My Perpetual Adventure

Question for you Snid:

I've heard you mention several times about using dark period before harvest. Have you ever done a side by side to test whether dark period adds to trichs more than just keeping in light for extra time? Put another way, you said I think about 5% extra from dark period. Is that in addition to what they would develop over same time in light?

2nd question (thinking as I was typing first question.): Maybe added trichs isn't only reason for dark period. Could it be also for reducing chlorophyl, etc.?

I think I may be thinking too much as usual and I'm going to stop thinking now and just let you explain. :thanks:

Looking good Snid, looking like mag def to me but I could be wrong lol. Keep up the great work over her
:) tip of the cap to you brother. I'm going with magnesium def. for now, I've applied two foliar sprays now. I'm hoping that does the trick, they're due for a feeding tomorrow. Appreciated the feedback my friend. :thanks:

So are there any differences in the nutes or medium between baily and Haley? Or just a quirky seed maybe? Those girls are beautiful snid keep it up brother
No sir, nutes were the same schedule up until +or- 3 weeks ago. Hailey is still without final bloom phase nutes ie. Overdrive and sensizym. And Bailey is through that phase and is flush mode now. I'll give her straight water from here till harvest.

That's a great point KingstonRabbi, I have personally seen stretching/elongation of trichomes after 48h dark. I would not have thought they would get noticeably longer in two more days of light. Emilya has also concurred with this analysis. It's still up for definitive testing, but I do this for all my plants except for emergencies. As for the point about chlorophyll, that's probably very true. I'm going by instinctive memories from my research but, when they're in sleep state alot of "activity" within slow or stops. As you were suggesting, as soon as light hits the leaves the engine starts up again.. And That's why I Cut in the dark, to prevent this. Great points KingstonRabbi, pretty sure you got it figured out, but I hope my add hock explanation is reassuring to you. :Namaste:

Damn Snid that marge is the thickest stem I have seen on a plant that size!
It's a helluva bottlenecked corkscrew plant, it's going 50 days old. I should have anticipated this veg time and had another photo plant in the flower tent. Hoping that my stress doesn't hermie her, only time will tell. Thanks Shiggity :thanks:

October 21st, Daily Update
Been really busy the past week, work and play have taken up all my grow journal time. I've slacked quite a bit on my subscriptions this week, back up to 120 journals to get up to date on. Luckily it's going to be a rainy weekend, so I'll have some time to catch up. It's a good time for an update don't you think... Let's have a look a today's progress.

Notes ~
Bailey is almost dry, I'll give her water for another week to see if she might stop putting out white pistils. Amber is prevelant at the moment, if it gets to 50% everywhere I'll chop. It looks like 30-50% tops and gradually Less as you go down, but still significant ambers on lower buds. Hailey could possibly take another month at the rate, I've never imagined this giraffe plant would go that long. Bailey has gone more than long enough already... The widows all all doing ok. Sapphire and Ruby got topped today, Amethyst and should be topped tomorrow and Emerald may be a few more days still.

Notes ~
I'm having a struggle keeping all of Marge's secondary shoots under the main stem. I've been tucking it all under the frame, aka sweeping it under the rug, for now. Whatever survives will be either Colas or clones. It's going to be a 100+ day veg time for this bottleneck corkscrew. Maude is stretching nicely, making nice tight nodes and a full complement of secondary growth tips are emerging into the canopy. Felicity is the tallest of the three and has been a tear during her stretch. Wider node spacing, but secondary tips are more plentiful than Maude's. I attribute this to the later intro of BudIgnitor for Marylou and Felicity. Marylou is a beast, showing the other two what things are suppose to look like. She is deficiency free and is making me very proud. Speaking of deficiency, I gave all three a good foliar spray twice since the last update. Got to get the girls in check before the buds form. Maude is k def. and Felicity is magnesium and/or iron def. I'll add molasses to their next feeding. (Marylou just got hers)

Once in a while it's a chore, but it's a pleasure to give you all the week ending update. Enjoy the weekend everybody. Do visit again, the garden is open to all.

Nice snid! This next round of flower girls are going to be awesome. Im particularly interested to see that big beautiful gh cheese in full bloom. Im growing a little cheese too and really looking foreward to seeing what this strain can do. Hope they turn out great for you man. :passitleft:

Hey snid just wanted to clarify are the girls in the flower tent photos? And I just got some pineapple chunk stock from Barneys farm are you familiar with this breeder? Where did you get yours from. Thanks for the updates brother I look to your journal frequently before I ask questions as I find most of my answers here lol. Stay green brother

My Marylou, Greenhouse Cheese, is getting to be quite wide now. Ever since a 420 friend gave me some cheese to try, I've been wanting to grow my own for while. Now she's my pride and joy at the moment. No deficiency and getting bigger by the day. :high-five: thanks for that Nick :Namaste:

All three girls in the flowering tent are photoperiods. Starting week 3 since flip. My Pineapple Chunk is from Barney's farm aswell. Here's a baseline for you to follow.:thumb: 6 weeks veg and now 2 weeks of 12/12. This journal has become a wealth of experience, from not only my own trials but the input of so many great growers. Thanks for stopping by,

Wow mr Snid, haven't been around for a while and your garden looks great as always. Keep warm and airie vibes to you
Great to have you by the shop Pat, things are bustling along just fine. Working on week 3 since flip and my autos are taking their time budding but it's looking sweet. Thanks for the visit, do come back soon:ciao:

lookin great bro. flowering tent looks like theyre ready to start stretchin :thumb:
The Stretch is on my friend, I think another week and they'll be happy and start budding. It's looking pretty good so far, :thanks:

Looking good Snid. A couple questions: about how tall are your girls on average when they are finished and what would you say your average yield is?
Auto flowering plants are a crap shoot. My indica leaning photoperiod plants usually go 12-18" above the pots rim/soil. I try and keep things low and level, as you can tell, then let them rise as they go into flower. Then I control the Stretch and try to keep things levelled out, and voila, a standard sized plant with tons of Colas. Off a "standard sized" plant I've been pulling 3-4oz. ie : Tutankhamen, Acapulco Gold, white Widow #1 aka Ellabella, were all at 3 to 4oz. Then a few smaller ones so, I'd say the average is 3oz.

October 24th, Daily Update
I decided to reinstall my overhead lab lights to get some better pictures. It's not quite the same when you're using a flash. All mature plant pics are flash free in this update. Temps have dropped over the past few days following 72+hours of rain. Spent the afternoon plucking Bailey in preparation for a her final photoshoots, she's going to be a beauty. I reorganized my stash drawer, lol, it's still quite full but I've been picking at it steadily. I would need to look and smell to tell what strain it was, very time consuming. so I labelled each jar and dated the harvest. Curing is going well on both Acapulco Gold and white Widow Auto. The others were basically smokable right out of the drying box. Diesel Berry especially and the Tutankhamen, very smooth very psychoactive :tokin:
How about we take a look at the latest pics from the garden...

Hailey is really coming on now, the little straggly buds are doubling up. Maybe I might get something out of this freak. Bailey is making me look good, I picked off lots of dying or dead leaves to prevent any occurrence of mould. harvest is on the horizon now, maybe another week. She's getting only water since her flush last week, one or two more cycles. The younguns are doing ok, a couple have developed a def., or a infection from the topping. Looks to me like phosphorus def. They're due for a feeding in the next couple days, I may feed the symptomatic ones early though. They've all been topped now, at 3rd node, and a few are almost ready for training.

Marylou is getting wider and wider, she's got some good hues and is starting the budding process. Felicity much the same, she's got buds forming up. Although she is still magnesium def. She is progressing. I gave her a foliar feed of espom salts to see if that does better than my previous attempts. Maude has the sturdiest stems of the three, she's making thick stems during this stretch period. Buds are forming on her aswell. The aroma in this tent is very appealing already. Can't wait for a few more weeks, mmmmm....

Thank You All for the support, you keep the good times rolling. See you next time...

Just wondering can you take a clone from a clone? Your garden is a shining example of dedication extraordinaire! Your twisted sister

I just harvested a clone of a clone, Skunk #1. I bought it as clone so who knows haw many generations of cones there were before.

Tonight I harvest Black Cherry Soda, another clone of a clone, plus I have a couple clones off the current girl with no sign of losing vigor.

I've read that a lot of breeders don't keep clone mothers. They just clone each batch from the previous batch indefinitely.

Not sure why breeders wouldn't keep the clone mother, I had one mother for 3.5 years. She was a know commodity and the clones didn't seem to degradate. If it wasn't for an unseen issue, I probable would have kept it going for longer. I can see a breeder not having the room and crossbreeding taking up space but there is less degradation with the mother than with succession series of clones. IMHO

If I can recall from my vast research database in my brain... You can undoubtedly take clones from a clone. But just like any species of living thing, you eventually run down the dna/rna and it will become susceptible to diseases. I would imagine it's several generations down the line, but the genetics will still be the same as the mother regardless of her own method of coming to being.

Side note: I thought I posted this last night... Oops. It was still in the auto restore option. So I guess it's been answered but here's my two cents.
