Stinky Snid's Nursery & Flower Shop - Welcome To My Perpetual Adventure

Up cup update

Mandy and Renee have made it successfully in to their new digs. It took some coaxing but they finally popped out of there. I could here the roots ripping off the bottom.

But check these out... Booyah!!

They went from solo cups to 1.5 gallon (5 litres) pots to NOW 3.25 gallon (11 litres) pots

They will be going into flower light schedule tomorrow. :) mostly because I need room In the auto tent. Hoo hah!

Hi there, I like to ask you a question about pot size. I think you might give me a better idea. I was wondering what the optimal pot size would be for getting a regular photo-period plant through harvest in the same pot. Now I don't have a lot of space to work with so I think 5 gallon is a bit much, even though that's what I would choose if I had the space lol. What would be the minimum size to keep the plant healthy till harvest? I'm also using some LST so that's another reason why I'm trying to establish optimal potsize so I can keep the LST in place and the plant in the same pots. Do you think 3 gallon would be able to carry me through to harvest?
Anyways, I felt like you were the guy to ask, seeing you have so many different plants and working with soil. Thanks in advance.

Looking great there Snid! Those roots sure were curling right around the bottom of your pot, very nice and healthy white. I bet they will be enjoying their new homes, let the flowering begin! Lol. Good call on changing up your lights that way to, always nice to figure out you can save some $ on electric bill. Keep up the good work my friend. Best of luck, take care!

Kundal, you came to the right place! This man here is a good one to talk to about what you were wondering in your journal. Good luck!

Let's start with how many plants and how big your space is. If it's the current setup, you'd could get by with 3 gallons(11litres) pots. My first grow.. The bagseed adventures of 2015, I grew two regular sized plants to maturity. One male that got tossed (so depressed to work for months and find out its a boy), and one full flowering female. These were grown in a 36"wide x 24" deep x 36" tall cabinet. It wasn't the prettiest but I learned so much from that grow. 3 gallons would be advisable for a small grow area. FYI I did those under cfl only...

With that being said, I would strongly advise up Potting your plants. From solo cups to 1.5gal to 3 gallons. That layered root ball is something to Behold. Did you see the picture above:) that root rope round the bottom is like an inch thick within the dirt...unreal.

My Winnie here went straight from solo cup to that pot she is in and going to finish in. It's an 11L pot, whatever that is in gallons. Hoo hah. And Ellabella was going to be the same but I didn't want to restrict her beauty. So they will definitely do good in 3 gallons I would not use bigger that for my space that I described earlier.

Hope that helps you little... I'm glad to help.

How big is your area and are your lights adjustable?

Isn't that something... Those roots are so thick they are like rope. I will be up cupping my photoperiod plants from now on. I can't believe how white they are too. Thanks for the motivation to be a better grower, I'm not a guru by any means, but I learn fast and I am not afraid to make mistakes. Lol that's what bagseeds are for!

April 13th, Daily Update
If you didn't see the last post, the two smaller photos (Mandy and Renee) have been put in the photo tent under the 12/12 Mini Sun. This makes more room in the auto tent...and you know what that means. :scratchinghead: I'll let you think about it. The mars 400 is a much better fit for the auto tent since it's footprint is a square. It's basically covering the four younger autos. Anyways on with the show...

Notes ~ Leialoha and Alani each have a Mars Hydro Reflector directly above them. The rest of the plants are mostly under the mars 400, kalua is so frosty... Wow I wish she was a bigger plant. Leia is perkier than she has been all week, Alani is drinking water like crazy. Tyrone has some nice looking flowers, very exquisite. I topped Chloe. And if you haven't guess by know what an empty space in tent means. we'll here she is, may I present...My better half's first attempt at this thing that has me so preoccupied all the time.

Notes ~ all the photoperiods are now together in their respective tent, all work needs to be done before my nap since they're lights out by the time I'm "lights on" awake. They've all been fed their bloom nutes, I soaked the pots after transplanting them. They're all praying to the Mini Sun God now. I had to retrain the little ones befor their flower stretch.

Till next time... :ciao:

Well the dimensions are somewhat limited depth wise I'm at a foot and a half. Width 3.5 feet. Height 7 feet. I'm using a repurposed shelving unit that I converted into a greenhouse. The lights are on chain link chains. They can be adjusted inch per inch. I have two plants hoping to get a female. I did pot them up from seedling starter cup to half gallon to 1.5 gallon currently and then onto 3 gallon. Thanks to the info you just gave, I believe it's going to be alright to keep them in 3 gallon pots till harvest. I think the main reason for my question to you was indeed because of the sheer size of the roots these plants develop. It's so intense! I do a lot of gardening outdoors and haven't really seen anything like this before! Thanks for the help buddy. This is my first grow for these types of plants and I am learning a lot about them and from them. I am hoping to continue to do this for years to come, slowly building up gear.. but yeah you gotta start somewhere. that said. I just love the abundance of plants you have. They all look very healthy. Do you use LST to train them a bit?

Your welcome Kundal, yes I do alot of training in the early stages so I don't have to later on. You can see my stakes in the plant foliage holding down or directing stems.
Excellent update Snid. I hope my seedlings look that good on day 15. :thumb:
These critical x 2.0 are very fast growing and have no signs of preflowers yet. So far they are looking promising.

My male plant is just about dead, still spewing pollen that I will collect this weekend. I ended up jarring my Maria for curing today, stems made the faintest snap. Total dried weight @57%RH is 43.8g plus trim and popcorn. I'm a little worried about my new light, it doesn't have a real heat sink. My diodes will probably burn out sooner than normal, oh well it was a free light. Onto more interesting news, the plants are all adjusting well to the light configuration. Let's see those ladies then...

My only hope for Trinity is some Dark&Stinky Devil seeds and a few nice buds to sample. Ariel and Tyrone are blossoming nicely. I've got continued minor deficiency on both the big girls, most likely due to having too much foliage. I thinks it's phosphorus, but maybe magnesium... I'm still diagnosing at the moment. Spent most of the day driving, lol... But good times with friends and family. Got home in time to check on the photos before lights out.
