Stanks Switch It Up In 2019

Start identifying kids with talents and interests in agriculture at early ages and work programs that will foster that interest so its combining that interest with awareness of the current systems problems and shortcomings while focusing on innovative and creative solutions to those issues.
Everyone needs to eat, and I agree that our food system is fucked. The industrialization of food production not only hurts the environment, but the population as well. No one can argue that the (US) population has gotten fatter and sicker in the last 50 years.

Most adults don't appreciate the value of "real food", so they fail at conveying that to their children. We should be encouraging our best and brightest into ag, but the $ (and respect) isn't there...instead we put people that can dribble and skanks on a pedestal and pay them millions. People can't eat money, and I won't be selling my food when the supply chains get disrupted (but I might put their ass to work for a bowl of rice and beans  )

Please help me understand how my comment was a non-sequitur.

“A non sequitur (English: /nɒn ˈsɛkwɪtər/ non SEK-wit-ər, Classical Latin: [noːn ˈsɛkᶣɪtʊr]; "it does not follow") is a conversational literary device, often used for comedic purposes. It is something said that, because of its apparent lack of meaning relative to what preceded it,[1] seems absurd to the point of being humorous or confusing.”

Did I confuse you? My observations lack meaning to the topic of climate change and the conspiratorial viewpoint of republicans?

Simplified I said I have watched climate change occur during my lifetime, that the earth has natural cycles, and humans are impacting that cycle.

Im just trying to understand your back handed comment meant to disregard my opinion.

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Heheh, it's time to get away fast.

I live smack in the middle of the vast expanse of America's incredible agricultural production lands, and I've been here my entire life. I've never farmed or worked on one, but they've always been there, all around me. I can assure you that there is nothing unsustainable or inefficient about it. And in fact, it's far less dangerous with far fewer negative side effects than there ever were in all of history. For over a century, the area has been peppered with agricultural colleges teaching the latest methods in cultivation and husbandry. Several times a year, someone makes a significant breakthrough, leading to patents and business startups. Software, geotech, precision machining, you name it, cutting edge stuff. Our unemployment rate has rarely been above 5%.

Just sayin. We're producing more nutrition at lower costs than ever.

I'm old, so I remember when we had actual pollution problems. Rivers on fire, entire towns exposed to fatal toxins, scoured mountainsides spewing toxic runoff, smog-filled cities, agricultural chemicals that ravaged the human body ...

The whole "OMG the world is dying" thing reminds me of horror movies. People like to watch them to feel scared.

:Namaste:

You watch the weather change = Capitalism is bad?

And we don't flame people here - we simply have polite opinions. :)

Not everyone fits into a nice convenient box like we are supposed to be led to think. Some countries do a great job at identifying academic strengths of people very early on.....and streamline them for education in those fields. Seems pretty logical. We all knew those grease monkeys back in school that were never going to go to a tradition 4 year university. Why not identify them early on and work to identify education that specifically applies to that sort skill set. Cullinary...check. Nursing/healthcare....check. Nope...we have turned education into its own 'industry'.

I had a buddy back in high school....lived right across the canal from me. Terrible student...but man that kid could tear down a boat engine or car engine like a champ. I lost touch with him for over 20 years and found him a couple years ago. Turns out he's a rocket engineer now. Got a job working at the local airport....who paid for additional schooling in the mechanical type trades. Turns out he's a lot smarter than we all thought....he just needed a way to get interested in it. If you would my buddy at 16 he would be doing what he's doing now, he would laughed at you (so would I).

Fair enough.

The only people denying and hiding climate change is those with the most to lose. Corporations. Capitalists. Conspiracy theorists.

Leaded gasoline isnt harmful. How much money was spent to cover that up. Big oil. Surprise surprise. It wasnt bad until it was proven otherwise. I could really go on and on. Spending my entire education and career in natural resources, these examples are everywhere. All in the name of shareholders and profit. Capitalists. Its not much of a reach.

One look at the debacle in the white house shows you how much people are held accountable. Maybe if the laws, regulations, and rules were followed capitalism wouldn't be such a hinderance.

:bravo: :high-five:100%, Stank!

I'm working with a guy in his early 20s, taking a quick 2-year course at tech school to be an electrician. He's gonna make a solid income! The BS major in college probably won't remember anything important from his 4-5 years of partying while he delayed growing up. (And he'll have $20,000 in student debt to clear before he can buy property.)

:cheesygrinsmiley:

Again, UA ... non-sequitor ... Sorry, I can't follow the logic. :hmmmm:

But you're entitled to believe anything you wish. :Namaste:

Except the debt from loans for the next 2 decades....

A terrible student ≠ stupid person

I have to shit or get off the pot here real soon. I have a very short time left to use my GI Bill after retirement. I find very few things less appealing than going to sit in a classroom in any college (online or in person) to learn something that someone tells me I have to in order to get a piece of paper.....when most of the shit that I have to learn has nothing to do with what I want to learn. I have never needed a school to learn something.....but its a big waste to not use it. But I also know that I would be driven mad going. Tic toc....clock's ticking Stank....whatcha gonna do? Only reason I would do it is they essentially pay you to go to school....whatever the housing allowance in your area is. I am just not sure thats enough for me to stomach dealing with it LOL.

Apologies to my educated followers but some of the dumbest people I have ever met in my life were college educated people that couldn't find their own asses with 4 hands and two spotlights. And then don't get me started on the 'professors' and their 'teaching'.

Oh man, you and I could have a great chat, Van Stank! :headbanger:

It just spurts out of me whenever anyone mentions going to college! Ack. What for?

I'm going back in the spring, after a 3 year break. LoL

When I was last enrolled, I collected $1800 a month while going full time. Plus a $500 book stipend every semester

I did a bunch of core classes at first, but soon realised that the GI Bill pays no matter what classes I take.

I've taken yoga.... art appreciation.... Web design & photography is next on my list.

:thumb:

Just last night I was looking into a quick old-school electronics repair course. I used to be an audiophile, and I'd like to restore old gear as a retirement gig. Who replaces resistors these days?

Yeah thats a large enough amount that I have to consider setting aside my disdain for conventional education. Though I say that now....to truly gauge it I would need to wait and measure what an 'average' day would be like....sitting in prison...err...I mean class.

Now the ironic part is I was an instructor for 4 years and have my MTS (Master Training Specialist) from that time. You have learn quite a bit about education and learning to get your MTS, including curriculum development, terminal learning objectives, enabling learning objectives, etc. Went on to a lot of additional high level military education programs and really met some amazing mentors and teachers. They were true masters at teaching how to think.

I went to several expensive civilian courses as well.....including working and earning my Lean Six Sigma/Theory of Constraints Black Belt and was working towards my Master Black Belt. So I have lots of exposure to very high level critical thinking and don't hate all 'education'. I guess all those things focused more on learning how to think and solve problems. I just see so little actual value in the traditional higher education. I am not knocking those of you out there that like it...just not for me.

LoL
Very familiar with MTS training. Was cadre/instructor for 8 years of my career. Mostly taught on the range, or law enforcement classes, but also did 3 years teaching Aviation Warfare. LoL

It took me awhile to get accustomed to formal education again, but I settled in pretty well once I enjoyed the topic.

I think all these power wind mills are screwing the natural weather patterns. There use to be a west to east weather fronts come and go every few days. Now they build up and need more energy to overcome these patterns. So they gather that energy from the north or south and then it becomes more of a violent storm front.

I did break out some pipe cleaners
:yahoo: Finally!
No real defined smells yet, but I will keep checking.
I'm wondering if it comes up with the black pepper that your JHa had.

Sounds like life before the EPA!

Let me know when you complete the course! I was just saying I have a Pioneer SX-636 receiver from the early '70s with a crackling right channel, and I can't find a place in Los Angeles to fix it any more.
