Stanks Switch It Up In 2019

Right now I would be happy with him not peeing on my damn floor.

Last night....I took him out at 11pm....walked him around for 5-10 minutes trying to get him to pee. As soon as we got back in the house...he squatted and peed. Did another one this morning. Its like he sees the outdoors as his house and the house as his toilet.

Trying to learn his communication signs for needing to go pee....but he seems to just want to pee inside! I HATE THAT....HATE, HATE, HATE that.

My last Lab (a female) was so easy to potty train. On the flip side, she was a nightmare on the leash and never learned how to walk. She was a puller. Even with choker collars, she would choke herself unconscious and not care. This dude is a breeze on the leash.....but wants no part of potty training.

Feel free to have Lisa give me some advice on what might work with a stubborn ox of a boy dog LOL.

And he is pushed physically.....we do several walks a day and lots and lots of playing. He tends to play, go for walks, and sleep. Thats his existence at this point.....as a matter of fact he is tuckered out, sleeping and dreaming right next to my feet. Here in a few minutes I will wake him up again and take him for another walk. His endurance has tripled in the three days he has been with us. He is turning into a hell of a runner too!

Congrats on the puppy Van! Looks like a solid little guy for sure. I'd crate train him (get him a full sized one now and stick a lot of toys at the back to fill it). That's one of fastest ways to house train a puppy. That and a feeding/potty schedule.

Depending on his age he won't be able to stay in there long (or hold it for long either), but it will teach him where to go. At least when he pees in the house it will be an accident rather than a choice!

Here's what I was reading. I know its easy to overthink this stuff and reading an article like this can certainly help with over thinking but I found it interesting non the less.

Water Quality: pH and Alkalinity
Thanks for that bo!

Holy cow Cooper is one handsome pup, congrats! Will you wind up calling him Coop? Another good name wouldve been the Dude, his dudeness, duder or el duderiono.

More pics please, damn he's handsome!

:passitleft:
I call him Dude more than anything. "Dude, you peed on my floor again!" "Dude, you gotta let me know when you need to pee!" "Dude, come here!!"

Thanks CK!! He is an awesome little dude. We just have to iron out the chain of command here.....he was the Alpha of the litter and you can tell he is struggling to accept me as the new Alpha. Fun times though!

He mastered steps in his first day....along with sit, and shake. But he doesn't like to be forced to work....he likes doing his own thing, not what I want him to do!
Hahaha he wants to be the master but at least he seems like a smart little guy so far, catching onto things quickly but also sounds like he’s a bit stubborn too lol. Hopefully you get that potty training thing figured out soon so you don’t have to keep cleaning up piss all the time, that is never fun...

We spent most of the day wrestling around in the front yard or out on walks. I think we had a pretty good day. Little dude is gonna be strong! He loves rough housing but damn it, when he gets my beard or hair in his mouth, its hell getting it out. That shit hurts! But I am cracking up laughing as I am trying to pull it out of his mouth with him hopping on and off my head.

Anyone see that movie Forrest Gump?

Weekly Update

Slow week on the plant front. All the plants are showing roots down at the bottom or sides of the cup. I expect things to pick up this next week. We had another addition pop up after I took these pics. One of Ms Stanks Durban Poison popped up. A second one is looking to be having a bit of difficulty getting out of the soil. I tried to help but it looked like stuff got kind of confused down below and I am not sure the tap root is growing the right direction. It just seems to be growing in a circle. Gonna let it figure it out or die.

First up we have the Slurricane. It seems to be growing the fastest of the group in terms of roots down below. I expect an explosion of growth from her this week.

The next fastest growing is a toss up. The Hindu Kush from Sensi Seeds is chugging along with the roots. The above ground growth seems the nicest and greenest of all the plants.

After the Hindu Kush, we have the Jack Herer from @SeedsMan . They are right on par with the first two strains and are showing strong roots as well. Very pleased with the start on these two.

Up next are the Skunk #1's from Sensi Seeds. They are the slowest growing of the bunch at this point. The roots are a bit slower developing than the rest of the ones above. The funky one is likely gonna get chopped so I didn't include it on the update. Hopefully one of the two will be a female!

And last up is The Labryinth. Took a bit to get it out of the shell and to get the membrane off her but she is looking good now. Looking forward to seeing how this one grows!

They make a bell with a suction up which you stick on the floor (useless if you have a flippin cat) in probably the kitchen where you take the dog out the most. Select the word you want to use for going to the bathroom...….potty, pee pee, pee, poop, poopies etc and everyone has to use the same word.

You go in the kitchen, say the word and ring the bell and immediately take the pup outside to go potty. Do this every time and you are giving him his way to tell you he has to go. It is a conditioned response for him. He hears the bell ring, hears the call "Let's go potty" and he's taken out to go. At some point (varies with each dog) you'll be sitting and hear that bell ring. Run, don't walk to the door and take him out.

ALWAYS have tiny pieces of dog treats in a Ziploc baggie in your pocket. When you take him out and he goes potty you make him sit, praise him (That's a good potty boy) and give him an itty bitty piece of a treat. Again, a conditioned response.....he goes potty outside he gets a treat and praised. Always take him to the same potty spot where he will smell the pheromones and his old pee and think "Ah, this is the spot"

With regard to "accidents" in the house. You have to remember he isn't doing something bad or wrong on purpose. He's a dog, he honestly doesn't know at this point. He's never lived in a house before. It is critical to not only wipe up the pee when he has an accident, but also to have the correct spray to eliminate both the odor of the urine but also to get rid of the smell of the pheromones in the urine. If you don't get rid of both it's a beacon calling him to repeat that behavior. One of the most highly recommended sprays is Natures Miracle which eliminates urine odor and pheromones. And as painful as it is Never Ever yell at the dog for going potty in the house even if you catch him in the act. He will not understand why you're mad at him and it will make him wary to go potty for you outside. If you catch him going potty clear your throat or whistle to get his attention but don't yell.

The best thing you can do for both of you is this. If you take him out and he doesn't go bring him straight back in and as we discussed have him "crate up" and give him his treat for doing so. Wait 20 minutes and try again. And keep repeating until you have a positive result. If you don't want to put him in the crate keep him on leash and keep him at your side 100% of the time and watch him. It's up to you to pick up on his "alert" that he has to go. The harder you work at potty training now the quicker and easier it will be for him to learn. Oh, and humans give off pheromones when we're angry which the dog will pick up on immediately. So even though you're miffed that he peed in the house try to stay calm for the sake of both of you.

And finally, put up a baby gate and until he's trained confine him (when you think he needs to pee) to a room without carpet. The kitchen is ideal as the door to outside is there.

Thanks Beez, I really appreciate that. I meant to call you but I got caught up wrastlin' with him again and then Ms Stank got home and there was all that playing too.

Man he is going to be big and strong....he's gonna be a handful with the horseplay (my personal favorite thing to do with my dogs) when he's full grown. Thick bones and just solid. :D:D He is growing fast too....I can see it when he lays on the floorboards, each day he's putting on good size!

Thanks brother!

Its kind of funny....both Ms Stank and I were kind of worried he was going to end up being a royal pain in butt.....but he has really mellowed out and settled in over the last 24-36 hours. He hasn't peed in the house since yesterday morning and he has gotten much better with his crate training. He is starting to develop a bit of a personality now and you can see he is getting more and more comfortable in the house

Only concern we have is possible low end hearing loss. I can't tell if he just doesn't want to listen and doesn't respond or if he is hard of hearing. I know he can hear when I really speak up....but I can't tell how well he hears at lower levels. He doesn't respond to my clicks or any verbal commands unless I am loud. Might not be anything other than lack of interest, but something I want to monitor. We have a vet appointment scheduled for later this week and we will ask them about it.

Hearing check

Put him in another room...open the fridge

Option 2
Give him something in a can or fun food in fridge, repeat option 1

Lol

He is a puppy

He doesn't know anything food related really at this point other than his dog dish. I can eat stuff in front of him and he doesn't respond to the sound of the wrappers or smells. He does like the smell of his treats though....he responds well to those smells. Could just be focus.....or could be slight hearing issues.....time will tell I suppose.
