Stanks Switch It Up In 2019

So here are a few pics of some interesting things going on out here in Stankville. We were doing some spring cleanup this year and were cleaning up under the deck where we grew outdoors last year and found some interesting things.

Not sure what plant they came off, but there are likely two possibilities. The first one was a DTF that was pollinated with 9 LB Hammer pollen which resulted in our Balls Deep strain. The second possibility would be a Hindu Kush plant that was likely pollinated by the same 9 LB Hammer. Regardless.....we have been having a bit of a cold spring with snow in some form for almost every day in the last week to 10 days.

We decided to transplant them from under the deck during this cold period.....and they are indoors on window ledge on days where its rainy/snowing and cold. We will be transplanting them into our outdoor veggie garden when the threat of snow is gone.

Aside from that, we have been continuing with spring cleanup and work around the outdoor garden. We took down about a dozen trees around the big outdoor garden and we have a few more to take down. Hoping to get them done this week so I can finish putting the framing back up on the garden fencing and then adding the permanent fencing. We knew we were going to be dropping trees so there was no rush to do this last summer.

This was what it looked like before we started

And here is what it was looking like after the first round of falling. We got most of it all cleaned up and cut down to manageable sizes to dry for next years fire wood.

And of course Cooper is Cooper.....he's a handful and always in the way but we love him none the less

Nice find & a nice property!

Nice find & a nice property!

Thank you and thank you!! We love it out here.....wouldnt trade it for any city living anywhere!
Who doesn't love a volunteer, especially if it's cannabis!

Nice yard work :).
We are hoping that whatever it is, it's a bit more naturally resistant to colder temps and possibly mold due to both plants having been grown in the cooler fall here and germinating in 30-50 degree weather. It would be nice to start working on some strains that can grow outdoors here.....and do it successfully.

The yard work is endless.......we still have at least another 100 trees we want to bring down. Not very good for the shoulders and neck....but it's got to get done and luckily I grow a lot of pot!

Glad to seeing ya posting again Van. Please take it easy as it looks like you got a but load done already and seems like the rest ain't going anywhere so pacing yourself might be a better solution than beating yourself up.
Liking the lineup you got going. One of these days we need to talk on doing a stanks genetics grow at the derby dungeon.
I know I'm just blowing smoke but dude take some care of yourself. Life's short enough.

Hey Derby.....great to see ya brother. Oh I do take it easy. Moderation has been a humbling experience for someone that never knew what that word meant as it related to work. Realistically I have about 3-4 hours of decent physical work before I usually shift to a shower and then work on the plants or lay down. Laying down is the only thing gives relief and I can't bring myself to do that for very long, it drives me bonkers (I sit there staring at the clock).....at least until I switch to smoking indicas at night.

I have a bunch of brush and scraps from this batch that I need to get rid of. I know @FutRfarmer was talking about renting a wood chipper....probably a good idea there. Would love to buy one and have to use any time I want but I don't know that I want to drop that kind of dough when I can rent one once or twice a year and be able to get rid of all my trash brush. I can certainly put all the wood chips to good use!

I’m making my pile , maybe we can coordinate and rent one for the day to do both yards once we have all the brush in piles.

Do you have room for a burn pile?

I do....but I have a LOT of brush to burn. We try and break the tree down to as much usable (burnable) material so the only thing really left over is finger diameter or less type branches. Plus I have a lot of use for the wood chips.

I do a moderate amount of burning during the fall time.

Do you have room to mount a TV on the ceiling? Would help pass the time better than the clock!

This is true! I have room but not extra hook ups.....we really only watch TV in living room. We are saving up for a new couch that will recline....hoping that will help. Our current couch is really not doing me any favors in the comfort area....and I can't wait to get rid of this freaking thing LOL

We have a bunch of piles right now......looks like we have a bunch of beaver damns in our yard  . We are definitely down with coordinating the use of one. We were looking at buying one but its just too pricey right now for how often we would use it.

Speaking of Porcupines....the last three nights I have stepped out front to smoke at around 1am, I have had a porcupine standing right there waiting for me and Cooper. Guess thats better than running into our black bear, rumor is he's a big boy this year.

I just close the door and go out on the back deck. He can have the damn front LOL. Cooper luckily didn't charge him....he's a big scaredy cat lol.

Sulfur Burns

I'm gonna get on my soap box again regarding the sulfur burns I have been doing. I did another burn for the veg girls yesterday at lights out. I have been doing 1-2 burns a week for the veg girls and 1 a week for the flower girls.

When I do my sulfur burns, I do them a bit longer in veg tents than I do in the flower tents. Always do the burns at lights out and make sure you remove or completely cover your lights in something 100% seal-able (I always remove my lights and cables just to be 100% safe). Generally in veg, I do my burns for 4-5 hours while in flower I do them for about 2-2.5 hours.

After the burn yesterday, I did some trimming on a couple of the girls today and then scoped a handful of random leaves from both plants. Everything looked great and no signs of any of the Hemp Russet Mites. The plants looked incredibly happy after the burn as well with lots of nice new bright green growth (will try to take some pics of the veg tent tonight).
I am looking at flipping the Jack Herer that was up potted a couple weeks ago and wanted to make sure she was completely pest free before moving her into the flower tent. Even then I will continue to treat the soil drenches with SNS-209 for the systemic treatment while I do sulfur burns for the first three weeks of flower. As long as I don't see any signs of pests in the flower tent, I will cease doing the sulfur burns after the stretch is completed.

I can't praise the effectiveness of these burns in dealing with pests without any of the negative side effects that you get from spraying with Neem, or other treatments (which is what I was doing prior to the burns....and my plants were showing me they were angry about it). For anyone out there battling pests and that is growing in an area where you can do a sulfur burn.....you should seriously invest in one. These burns will be a normal part of my weekly routine going forward. Oh and its great for keeping you PM free as well. PM can't take hold on a plant treated with sulfur.....though the jury is still out on how effective it is on a plant with lots of PM prior to beginning treatment.

What's your sulfur burning gear and supplies? I've been fighting some whiteflies and I grow weary of just 'controlling' them. Sulfur seems a better answer.

This is what I use. They don't sell it on Amazon anymore or I would post the link or shoot it to you. I believe the brand was Grower Choice but I am not 100% sure. I know they are becoming hard to find as more and more people struggle with the hemp russet mites. I know @bobrown14 just bought one so he may be able to share the link with you.

What I learned is that stoners don't do well switching timer settings and not fucking it up.....so I bought a timer specifically for the burner. Now I just unplug the one the lights are plugged in and take it down when I remove the lights and plug the sulfur burner timer in.

The sulfur was just sulfur off the zon. They have tablet designed specifically for the burner but you don't get nearly the same weight of sulfur for the price that way. I just add a new handful every time I do a burn. It will melt it into a liquid and as it heats to the gas point it gasses up. When the timer turns off, the liquid sulfur turns back into a solid puck....which is shown in the pic as well. I believe I paid just over 100 bucks for the burner with zero buyers remorse (unlike 99% of the sprays I have tried)

Here's the veg tent tonight. If I could show you what these looked like when I started doing the burns, there is no way you all would believe these are those same plants. Several of these were almost thrown away with 4 others I got rid of. We have some Jack Herer, Labyrinth, Afghani, Killer A5 Haze an unnamed strain and Sour Cherries in there. A few of the girls still need hair cuts ( I did the one in the lower left today...its the Killer A5 Haze that will be grown on the bigger side) and are looking a bit wild and unkempt but healthy and happy none the less :ganjamon:

Speaking of almost throwing away plants.......back when I did toss 4 plants, I almost tossed the remaining two GDP girls I had from the 4 I had started. I was throwing one of my patented Stank fits, getting ready to cut everything in every tent I had but better judgement won out. I decided that even though they were hella ugly and small as shit, I would let them go and see what happened. I have no idea what day in flower they are because I never wrote anything down on them and I gave them about 2% chance of survival....but they are smelling fantastic despite being ugly as sin. Here's a bud shot off one of the GDPs.

That nug looks delicious regardless of what they went through. At least your gonna get something. I always liked the sulfur burn. When I did mine I liked to spray my plants before I did a burn to help the sulfur attach to the plants I also felt like that helped them not have that god awful sulfur smell when they finished.

They don't sell it on Amazon anymore

Growbarto.net has your model.
Of course, Tead's the cheapest bastard on the planet, so I think I might try a simple hot-plate and ceramic cup configuration. I know the vaporization range is somewhere near 300f and I feel certain I can hit that with a hot-plate. I saw a diy setup using an iron... I think I have one of those that hasn't been used in decades and seems like a good sacrifice.
I let you know where I land on the situation.

Things are starting to look up :yummy:
