Transplants scare the hell out of me, if anything can go wrong with the plant it will be there. My only hope is that I have a good rootball that keeps roots and soil intact. Do you score your roots at all, or leave them be and replant?

:Namaste:

Jeff

Dont worry about transplants in veg brother. I can't tell you how many times I have watched landscapers get Midevil on new plantings and rarely have to replace a plant:)
I like to take a large McD's coffee cup poke some holes in the bottom . soak the soil plant the seed and let it grow in there till the roots come out the bottom and she has 4 sets of real leaves. I know its ready for its new home then. Rip the cup off and place the plant in her final home:) Haven't killed one yet doing that. so just leave the roots alone:)

GOOD WEED EVERYONE!! :):) Thank you very much.
I just left the roots be. They were all around the outside and hanging. I wanted to take a pic, but I was being so delicate i kinda said "F it! I gotta get her in this pot intact!!"
They Blue mammoth scared me. When I saw her head stuck in the shell husk I thought I killed her. I was working in minimum light trying to pull t off and pulled her up about 1/2 inch. Her tap had a big curl in it (perlite incident I assume) but it didnt come all the way out so I stuck it back in and lightly covered it with soil. Maybe the reason for the slow start size wise.
Today the girls looked good. :) The nlxbb is bigger than yesterday i think. Ill try to snap some pics in a bit :)

She has some serious goodies under that skirt. ;)
I keep debating putting the lights higher to stretch her, or keep them close, cause she is visably getting bigger every day... :hmmmm:

transplant class 101 here; define rootball and whats meant by "score your roots". Also can anyone suggest a nice link to read up on transplanting?

Transplant 101 here; define rootball and what is meant by "score your roots"

Basic explaination: When you take a MJ plant out of a smaller pot, the roots will have wrapped around between the pot and soil. This is a rootball. Some growers take a knife or sciscors and cut these apart to open them up and hope to generate new roots. Imagine making an X halfway through the rootball then putting into fresh soil and spreading these out. Thats one example of it.
Good weed sir bTW :)

subd,

when transplanting its best to let the pot dry out so the roots are holding the soil together, then turn the pot upside down put keep the stem of the plant between 2fingers.

so when you got the pot the right way up, slide your hand over the top of the pot so the stem of the plant goes between 2 fingers so your hand is completely over the top of the pot with the plant in, then turn the pot upside down and either give it a few taps with the other hand or give it a gentle squeeze all the way around the pot to release the roots from the edge of the pot, then the plant and root ball will fall into your hand, then pull the pot off and place the whole lot into a pre dug hole where your transplanting it to.

i find if its got roots growing out the bottom of the pot then these will get damaged when you try to take plant out the pot, but turning the pot upside down is the best method, never try pulling the plant out its pot by the stem, this will damage many roots, its best to let the pot dry out and turn it upside down with the stem between your fingers, thats the best method and causes less stress,

if you try doing it with wet soil then the soil will break up in your hand and you will have problems transplanting then and lots of transplant shock, if done right the plant wont suffer any shock at all, just water well after transplanting then job done

dont cut any roots, you want to transplant the plant and all the root ball at the same time, it will grow into its new home within a day or 2, cutting the roots will badly stunt growth and would possibly kill the plant if it could not support the growth above soil or ground level, the upside down method is the best option and less stressful,

Welcome aboard sir. Feel free to offer any advice and critisim you may notice in my grow. Im always up to learn from experienced growers.

And this transplant method is basically exactly how I do it. I would add make sure you relize when you tip it over, loose soil is gonna fall out. Be prepared for that. I scoop some ofthe really loose stuff out before transplanted so I dont have to clean it up later .:)

yep good point, i tip mine over above the pot im transplanting into, so that is a good point, a lot of loose soil will fall off from the top and also will fall out once you got the plant out the pot, so can be messy.

your plant looks great, ill have to check what light schedule your using as ive only had a quick flick through, but i been working with autos for a while now and found that 20-4 and 24-0 tend to produce smaller plants that flower early, mine was starting flower around week 2, then i tried an auto under 12-12 and it didnt start flowering to about week 4, it took nearly 4 weeks longer to finish as well but it took my yield up from 1/4oz and under 12-12 i got 2oz,

so clearly their is more into these autos then we think, its not worth changing the schedule your currently using as i cant say for sure if 12-12 is the best method, ive got some more autos growing under 17-7 at the minute so i can then compare results,

i just think that giving them lots of light makes them mature sooner and flower sooner, giving them more dark period allows them to get taller and takes longer for them to mature, so it looks to me like autos flower due to hours of light rather than age in days,

at least thats the results im currently getting,

yours looks nice and healthy, the problems with cfls is they keep nodes very tight so the plant wont stretch much at all, i use cfls for starting my seedlings and clones under now, i used cfl from start to finish and got great results and plenty of bud but i was using around 400 watts in cfls so switched to a dual spec hps and the flowering stage is much better now under the hps,

so cfls work and work well, its why i still use them now, you just tend to need lots of them as their penetration is not good, you can test this by holding your hand next to the bulb and slowly move it away, after about 2 inches the light drops off pretty quick, but the plants seem to like cfls and plants do well under cfls,
