Hey Spimpmiester! May the day find you with a new felt enlightenment and understanding towards clones. If so, share it out with me, as mine has gone south also, I've just given an update the same as yours! Trying again but aint looking good.

For future clones, one thing that helped me was that I was sent cloning acc's I won from the Tony's online grow show. In the prizes was a can of PUR ProMix. This stuff is a mycorrhizal compound. I am getting 90% or more success rate @ cloning now.
I frankly don't know if it's the PUR or I got better, but I believe its probably not me.
Try it & see what you think.
Also, I split the bottom of yhe stem & strip the outer layer of stem above the split. You saw the root dev. Try it & see what ya think.

On both attempts I've scrapped the outer layer but what exactly do you mean by split the bottom of the stem?

Split the end to create more surface area for roots.

I chose this method because is causes a stronger root system.

Lightly scrape the skin around the split stem to expose more of the cambium layer.

The cambium layer is where the plant generates roots.

Interesting about the clone stem swelling. Hopefully she will continue to fight in her new home.
One of my biggest problems is I didnt take a 'cutting'. I just used a top as an experiment. So the stem part was pretty tiny compared to a normal cutting.
BTW, my Hempy-o-ponic Auto is growing like crazy. The other girl is doing good, but the transplant repot is thriving. Interesting. Also had a really cool moment Id like to share.
Yesterday was a watering day. I always check the bottom of the pots for runaway roots when I water. I like to see a root trying to get out it lets me know she's hunting for water. So When I get to Gitmo I lifted her up and thought "hmmmm" What the hell is that? Why is there fuzzy white mold clogging the drainhole?
It was a huge root! Almost as thick as a mouse cable. I checked Gizmo and she had like 20 roots trying to escape and they were bleach white as well. VERY happy indeed.

I also let someone 'behind the curtain' this week. Father Spimp. Long story really really short he has to stay with me this weekend or longer as he is having surgery. I will be gone on an adventure for at least 2 days so I thought I should tell him and get it over with.
He grew back in the day on Farm de le Spimp like in '80-85. But he also had a issue that has him on a 'no anything' lifestyle for the last 20 years.
I made him come over because I didnt want to tell him on the phone. When he arrived we sat on the porch and I just came out with it. His immediate reaction was "You know, I could have helped you and shown you the right way because I bet your first couple plants sucked didnt they??"

Not pissed. No lecture. More offended I hadnt went to him for advice. I explained what Im doing is different because its indoors blah blah blah and he just laughed. He looks at me and says "When your ready for buds so big they snap stems come talk to me".

With the good comes the bad sir. At our firework celebration this year, He was setting off giant ones in the middle of the neighborhood. And when one of my neighbors asked him to stop he yelled "your lucky Im not charging you to watch this! Ill stop when I run out."

Whoa. Get out of my head. That was a trip. I explained then a pic pops up showing it.
The stem splitting is what I learned to do with vegetable plants. Works on MJ tambien. It delays rooting a few days, but results are worth it.

Good gracious growing to you buddy! Love the Dad stuff he sounds bloody awesome. I once had a bizarre chat with my old man. He sat me down round the local Boozer bought me a pint (I was 16 at the time) anyway he starts telling me I should stay away from drugs in general, gave a bit of a speech. Then to finish off he goes honestly lad I know from personal experience. "I got thrown out of my first University for being found hanging upside down by my trouser legs on the main gates of the Uni.
