Some Classic Favorites & Other Things In Soil

What a delightful way to start the day, eh Jim? Retirement has its moments for sure. Haha! I've had a couple days like that myself lately, enjoying the gentle shift of the seasons and the warm, snugly evenings with windows closed against the chill and completely blazed. It's a good life when you can get it. I'm tickled pink to watch you enjoy your own retirement wonderfully buzzed. :hugs:

Let me crawl out of bed and check on my own lovelies. Yours look like they caught a lesson in a Growing 101 class on magical presence. It's so nice to be able to visit your garden every day.

Thanks Sue. Yes I stayed buzzed pretty good. I topped my evening off with some Dark Devil. I have 4 top buds left. Soon you're going to have jars of it and I'm jelly.

But .... I have one more Blue Dream that's already in the tent. This one is likely to be a mommy plant. So many of these clones will be re-vegged after finishing. Anyway....I'm not sure how long this one has been in the cloner but she really resisted putting out some roots. This stem even looks like a wrinkled old stick rather than a stem. I had to capture this planting for the journal. I had an odd sized pot to put her in. She'll regain her color in a few days.

I'm thinking about reversing something and making some seeds.

DSC_052211.JPG

If I do this I'll use Heirloom's recipe:

Hi DD lovers. I thought I would share a little info from my limited dealings with the Dark Devil.

If you want to make feminized seeds, here is a method that worked for me:

Start with two seeds.
Germinate one, this will be the plant you reverse into a 'male'
One week later germinate the other. This will be the seed 'host' plant. You will pollinate her with the first.
When the first hairs appear on the first plant, spray her with Silver Thiosulfate. All over like she has mites.
Two weeks later, spray her all over again.
Observe the sprayed plant, watch her reverse. Hairs will die back, pods will begin forming.
On my reversed plant it took 24 days from first spray to first pollen. My 'foster grower' (long story) pollinated for 10 days.
Her seeds form quick and will take about 4 weeks.

Here is the Silver Thiosulfate Solution (STS) recipe:

Part A -1 gram Silver Nitrate dissolved into 60 ml distilled water
Part B - 6.25 grams Sodium Thiosulfate Pentahydrate mixed into 240ml distilled water (note that anhydrous sodium thio will require only 4 grams)

Mix the 60ml part A into the 240ml part B, constantly stirring. You just made STS concentrate.

Dilute your 300ml of STS concentrate. I started with 600ml more water, for a total of 900ml (1 part STS:2 parts water....300ml STS + 600ml distilled water). This seemed too 'hot' since it yellowed/crisped some leaves. My friend who finished my experiment said he cut the diluted STS even more, 1:1, which means it was somewhere around 5 or 6 parts water to 1 part STS concentrate. He reported that the original STS dilution read about 1900 ppm...quite high for a foliar IMHO. The reversed plant made lots of viable pollen, and the entire host plant is seeded.

Both my seeds were started at the same time, and it's clearly worked. I just recommend a week, maybe two, head start for the reversal plant to make sure you have pollen in time for the host.

Blue Dream - Day 53
Chemdawg - Day 54
Panama - Day 54
Amherst Sour Diesel - Day 46
Auto Fast & Vast x Master Kush - Day 19

Did you see how excited SweetSue got yesterday over a cut developing roots? Wow...I remember so well when I had some success at cloning a plant. It is exciting to bring a new life to the world through your own tent and talents. It saves a few bucks and preserves the continuation of a strain. Too good!

So I had Panama out yesterday for more of my super cropping training. I was training me to bear the torture of my baby. Those leaders got bent but managed to regain some turgor overnight.

I raised the LED yesterday so I can get better coverage. I hope to get the clones directly under the light somehow today. The tent is filling quickly.

High humidity is an issue here and will not get better until Hurricane Matthew is done. This killer storm is expected to hug the Eastern US states.

Wake n bake is my favorite bag seed "Mary". Makes me lazy and I started my day about an hour early today.

Panama

Here's what she looked like yesterday. All my neighbors were gone at the same time so I took her out to natural light. Then I bought her back in and super cropped her.

Have a great day folks.

Lookin bigger n bigger by the day.

Which one you thinkin bout reversin ?

Nice work on the supercropping.

It jus' feels so Wrong to do that to 'em, but you see how it springs right back.

You're doing that Panama justice, and the others look great, too. :thumb:

Hey MJ, evenin bud! like Gray just said...nice SCing. I ,love doing it , and it has so much value in the garden. it's great for getting a nice even canopy with all the "leaders" equal in not only height but girth too. Sometimes just a lil pinch here or there is all it takes , if ya stay right on top of it. remember not to damage too much though...i've had branch tips not recover , but that was just me ...learning.
SS is doing a nice job with her Carnival over there. Very even and "well kept" canopy. getting it ready for a nice Bloom stage. cheers MJ and once again,...nice job with her.
Remember that the further down , on a branch you pinch her ,...the more stressful, and harder it is for them to recover. Cheers bud!

I've yet to be able to make myself do it to one of my girls... I know it works well and have seen a lot of you guys doing it but it is painful for me... I just can't do it....:circle-of-love:

Nonsense D,...you can so do it. it's not like topping...that's way harder ...even for me to do. SCing is very valuable...you can see us all having great success doing it. You should try it. just choose one of the taller leaders ...come down from the very tip an inch or two and gently rub it there between your thumb and forefinger to soften it up a little....then squeeze her right there so you feel the internal membrane break...you will feel that . Then just lay over that tip so it rests about ...a little below 90 degrees or horizontal. it's important to NOT break the outside of the stem...only the inside membrane. when the plant heals itself , it creates and builds much stronger nutrient pathways and the site , gets more well developed. A lot of growth hormones flood the injured area, trying to heal it...making it stronger to handle it. Another really cool thing about SCing D,...if you look at the area right below a previously pinched , or damaged area, it looks much better developed than other non SC'd branches...hence the coveted bush look! Will you try it now?:cheertwo::cheesygrinsmiley:

Well Duggan... I feel kinda stupid.. I'm used to it but I got mixed up... I do that to most all my girls... I got it mixed up with topping... I don't like cutting them but I bend and twist them all over the place... My girls are rarely over 3'... Thank you for the excellent description... I get things confused from time to time...:)....:circle-of-love:

Me too!:tokin:....Enjoy the rest of your evening D. Cheers .:Namaste:

Good Morning Magic Man. Hope you are buckled in and ready for winds and rain. I've been watching the weather channel steadily on the movement of Matthew. It's still a category 3, and only the storm itself knows which way it will turn.

Stay safe our friend!

Auto Fast & Vast x Master Kush - Day 20

Yesterday I sifted those few grams of Ultraviolet that I had and I'm loving this kief this morning. Wow. Stuff goes to work real quick and hangs in there now about 2 1/2 hours. Props to Major PITA for his technique.

The only thing I did in the tent yesterday was to rearrange a little so the clones and the FV x MK could enjoy more of the Mars Hydro Mars II 900. I'm still running on the grow spectrum.

I'll check the solo cups and other cuts to make sure they have some water. Somehow I'm going to ghetto rig something to get that fan affixed to the tent frame and get it out of the way.

Have a great day folks. Going to smoke shop today to see if I can get me a chillum. No assurances that I got the right pics up today...
