Solo Cup Comp: Bring It!

My two newest strain entries for this killer competition which are Bubba Kush & AK-47 seedlings that just popped during the past couple of hours and will be heading off into my flowering room once the lights come on tonight.:blunt:

Just a simple q,, from a simple ton, because I don't know,, please,:Namaste:

Is having a system with a reservoir an obvious advantage? As in the plant will be a monster,,,,??

Or,,

For this simple ton,,is having a reservoir simply a simpler way to irrigate, simple enuf,,:thanks:

:Namaste:

I usually germinate and clone in solo cups, so that part is very familiar. After a couple of weeks, the roots occupy most of the cup. If I don't have the time to transplant into a gallon container (Regular Grow, not this fun competition), I find an effective method to water the solo cups is soak the entire cup in a bucket of water that just reaches the soil level for about 5 minutes. Usually it requires something to weigh it down and keep it from floating during the soak. I find it gives me two days between waterings instead of one day, because the roots fill up a solo cup completely within three weeks maximum.

My 2c- Nivek I don't see any reason for it to affect the size or health of the plant. I mean- the auto-watering schedule could be more efficient than hand watering, but it also could be less efficient, and I could have lethal equipment failures, etc. I think on balance it's still an equal playing field.
They're going to drink those little cups dry very quickly I assume, and will have to be watered often. Since I'm not around most of the time, I'm setting up a pump on a timer to do the watering for me. If my plants were in soil I'd probably just be using the pump to move water from the rain barrel to my plants- just the same thing I do every week by hand. However, since I'll be growing in mediums that don't retain nutrients the way soil does, I figure I'll have to mix up a bucket full of nutrient solution to get them through the week, and put the pump in that. Without knowing what I'm doing or talking about really- I assume the plants would start to starve quickly, left in perlite or coco with only water for dinner. At least for the first couple weeks, it would be easier to be there hand watering and seeing how it all works, by trial and error. However, I've had to make like a chicken and just wing it.

Yes, but whether they are hand watered/fed, or auto-watered/fed from a res- should make no difference. Basically it's just carrying nutes and water from A to B.

I think a res is fine in any aspect as long as it does not add space to the root zone, a separate res for feeding is not going to give any sort of growth benefit as we all have the same size "pots", they all will get very root bound and they will all be stunted in growth lol. Some people just dont have the time to be in the tent as often as others and at the end of the day this is all for fun and experimentation :)

This is turning into one of those threads that as I read through them....I get to the end and say to myself 'crap...i'm at the end already?':nomo::passitleft:

andddddd....it just happened to me, literally.
Really considering doing this, as my seeds from Gorilla still haven't arrived, I'm itching to put my tent to good use with this bagseed! Bahah.:circle-of-love:

what a whole lotto creativity this thread has created,,, way to go marz,,:goodjob:

sad news at the sleemans honey brown garage, :yikes:, a potential venture ending clonetastrophy,,
