SoilGirl's Indoor Organic Soil Medical Grow Journal - Mars II 1600 & Other LEDs

come on guys. I thought we were all just kidding around. You know I don't purposely miss posts. I actually try to read every one. Maybe I have too many subscriptions. Anyways, I do appreciate the information and remember we're all stoners. Nobody here is a rocket scientist. We all miss posts let the first person who's never miss A post cast the first stone.
Ah come on Doc, don't get your panties in a bind. I flux with everyone. I'm an equal opportunity Jokester.
doc we never stopped kidding around :circle-of-love: don't let Reg get under your skin, he's just a ball-breaker, and it's all in good spirit. no stones are being cast I promise!
You've got my word on that

There's lots of words to read here hahaha. Especially from me!
In the immortal words of Chris Tucker "And you know this Maaan..."

Well thanks for messing that fantasy up for me:rofl:......oh and you forgot........long walks on the beach:).........Happy Daze SG
Thanks GD! Happy Daze! ;)
It's all good soilgirl!

Aloe Vera is also great for your skin! And if you ever get a cut or a burn just put some of the gel on the wound and it will do wonders!!
:circle-of-love:
I will hahaha - but I'd rather not find out. anyways my mealybug thing is kind off at a standstill at the moment. And of course! Aloe is a plant of infinite uses if you look for them :) kind of like cannabis! Thanks for coming by I'm about to do another big update haha :)

SoilGirl, you actually being very helpful here. Though most of the time, you write a lot, they are all useful informations and we all appreciate that. I believe you have helped a lot ppl in their growing. :bravo:

Another (Long) Update!

Best get started before the carpal tunnel sets in LOL.

Red Cherry Berry - an exclusive!
Born: 10/18/14
Genetics:
could either be 100% Red Cherry Berry as the result of a hermie, gift from an awesome grower friend in NorCal - it's mother would be a plant grown from a Barney's Farm seed though, so the genetics should remain intact in this case. (Skunk #1 x California Indica) - OR, this plant could have been pollinated by a hermie Corleone Kush (grown from a Cali Connection seed if so) - which could potentially make for a very interesting plant, (that would be San Fernando Valley OG Kush x Pre-'98 Bubba Kush, then x RCB) and make my friend into an accidental breeder hahaha. :) I'm confident that these are good genetics either way, they've performed amazingly so far.

Anyhow, today when I was looking in on my veg room, I noticed something I'd missed until recently....
even in 24 hours of light, RCB is doing it's best to flower! Woah is it stinky. I'm a bit thrown off to be honest.

P10800011.JPG
P10800021.JPG

Even it's clone is for some reason! Very odd.

P1080026.JPG
P1080025.JPG

Well, back to the mother RCB, I transplanted it and put it into flower today :) quite the roots!! I've never had roots so healthy until going truly organic. I also am sure my root dustings of Azos and Mykos are playing a big role, as soon as I bought those, big difference. Worth the money for sure. Still wondering about that droop - the transplant should fix it though imo.

P10800031.JPG

P1080010.JPG

P1080011.JPG
P10800131.JPG

Now she's in a 3.5 gal bucket I drilled some drain holes into, and was moved into my cooked flowering soil (the PeeJay style stuff I mixed a while ago, but with lots of moldy leaves added, as well as Neem, Kelp, Crustacean Meals, Oyster Shell Flour, and Glacial Rock Dust) and top dressed with the Holy Trinity, mulched with some straw, some trimmed living mulch, and some living mulch seeds.

I wanted to put it in a 7 gallon air pot - but I decided against it. To anyone that hasn't followed Relaxed Lester's grow's, it's amazing what he can grow in a 2 gallon pot totally organically, only adding teas and dressings. RCB is much smaller than his monster Zilla, and going into a much larger amount of soil, and... just look how well she's been doing in about 1 gallon of veg soil. ONE!

P10800091.JPG
P1080008.JPG

Ok if you're not impressed - there's no pleasing you here. :laughtwo: seriously this amazes me. I've never had such a strong, smelly plant, so quickly. Absolutely crazy... it's like a tree, and now it's going in 3 and a half times as much soil, that is much more biologically alive. I adjusted a 100x3 to hang facing inwards like the other 100x3 but for RCB this time. Isn't she spoiled :)

P1080027.JPG
P1080031.JPG

- and it will get an enzyme/ Sprouted Seed tea tomorrow with the rest of the flowering plants. Here's that so far:

P1080001_1.JPG

Anyways let me go in depth as to how to do a simple Sprouted Seed tea, since it confounded me at first, and this is my first time doing it. No bubbling necessary. So part one: you get a clean jar, 2 tablespoons of seeds, pretty much anything but use organic :) (I used a tablespoon of homegrown organic hermie cannabis seeds :laughtwo: and a tablespoon of my buildasoil top cover (living mulch) seeds) and enough filtered (good), RO (better), or rain-water (best) to soak them thoroughly. Put it in a dark, not too cold place for the next 12 hours or so.

then get a fine wire strainer, dump that water (it's full of growth inhibitors) and the seeds through the strainer, rinse with your good water, then return the wet seeds to the dry jar. I was confused about this, but there should be enough moisture there to continue sprouting your seeds. (but you can put a paper towel down if you feel safer that way, I've never done this before maybe its going to totally fail hahaha - I guess we'll see - copy me at your own peril, maybe we'll reap the rewards! maybe not, I might have misunderstood my directions entirely.)

now you can cover them and let them wait 12 hrs before rinsing them like you did before, then return them to the dry mason jar for another 12 hours. do this repeatedly until the sprouts are showing, then you can either ferment them (making a rejuvelac sort of enzyme tea) for another 24-48 hours, that some people think may kill the enzymes... well I'm going to do way #2 which is way faster, and yields more enzymes and a generally more living tea; just add good water to the sprouts and blend, then dilute that in a half gallon of water. Then use that dilution to further dilute the tea at a 1 cup:1 gallon ratio, and use as a drench. The enzymes will really help break down organic matter, which not only helps get the whole organic IPM system in place, but encourages micro-activity and feeds the SFW. Great stuff - if it all works out! :hippy: wish me luck with that...

Dinafem Diesel

Also showing pre-flowers..... but going to wait to flower this one. It doesn't seem as deperate as RCB, only a couple hairs peeking out here and there. It's great to know my all-girls streak is still continuing lol. The only strain that could possibly be a male and ruin my streak now is Blue Blood, and that one's a girl for sure lol, call it my intuition I just know.

Diesel's starting to smell like candy, so sweet and lemony already. I tightened her ties today, did a little defol, and moved her back under the high output t5 now that RCB moved out. I'm giving the 90w GrowUFO a rest, it seems to be making plants droop and go a bit pale under it. Maybe I just need to raise it... in the future. For now, no need.

P1080006.JPG
P1080021.JPG

Ghost OG Flux

got a little defol today, and transplanted into a bigger pot to make training go easier. I'm re-using old summer grow soil in it, but re-amended with Neem, Kelp, and Crustacean Meals, Oyster Shell Flour, and Glacial Rock Dust. boy this is a mouthful lol.

anyways, I tied her back down a little tighter and took off two nodes on either main branch that were next to be tied down because they were too close together. LA recommends skipping every other one or so if branching is tight - I also don't want this to be a monster flux. 10-20 branches is the goal. I've not been very good about opening up the new growth for a couple days but I'm going to get back on track.

P1080049.JPG
P1080048.JPG

Now under the High Output T5: left to right, Blue Blood, Ghost OG Flux, Dinafem Diesel

P1080051.JPG

BB got a little light burn to the left, and note that Diesel is looking kinda sorry after being under the 90w GrowUFO. Anyone got any thoughts on that?

Black Bubba Kush Flux

A little defol. Nothing much to report besides breaking a main top off >.< yea that's the tape there. I tried to save it, there was no saving it haha. I'm curious what sort of yield this will give me. It's had a weird life for sure.

P1080041.JPG
P1080034.JPG

Corleone Kush #1 Flux

Awesome structure. I want to do a much bigger flux with this strain some time. Maybe outdoors, I bet that'd kick ass. :) - I probably should be harder on the defol down below, I just have mixed feelings, since I've not grown any popcorn under this Mars II so far. I worry that every node I remove is a potential bowl or two. >.<

P1080036.JPG
P1080038.JPG
P1080039.JPG

Ghost OG

Hahaha I was just getting envious of Mr. Teddy's beautiful plants, and telling him about how to get long colas, this one looks like it was grown the exact same way he did things. Now all that remains to be seen is how they compare to my fluxier plants, and his in flower. :) its so cool to be flowering at the same time as someone else.

By the way this one smells like piney hash like MAD. My dad loves it, and Diesel, for his CBD juice.

P1080033.JPG
P1080040.JPG

The Straggler Clones!

Here's that CK#1 clone that really looked like death, going the path of my BBK before her :)

P1080024.JPG

Here's the CK#2 that got mold in the cloner. Might die, might not, I'm not particularly invested in this one haha, but it will be interesting to see how it goes.

P1080022.JPG

and here's OG Kush PR, still slow to start, but slowly getting greener which is always good news. Had to trim the living mulch like a lawnmower LOL, but at least RCB got some nice, fresh and actually quite nutritious mulch out of it.

P1080023.JPG

Random Relevant Stuff!

Ok remember the wasp-gnat-mealybug-male? This is it. Isn't that f**king scary??? It might sting! How should I know lol, anyways in regard to the "mealybug death dip" I promised yesterday, I didn't go through with it hahaha. I didn't do any 'death dipping.' :laughtwo: I do have some nice peppermint insecticidal soap mixed with garlic ghost pepper water, though.

This fricken thing just scared me to death and I went into overdrive lol. I'm glad I didn't go crazy, I've only sprayed OG Kush PR with the mix, and I can't find any more mealybugs on the other plants.

P10800191.JPG

another strange thing, I found mold growing on top of the soil I transplanted OG Kush PR into the other day. Doesn't seem to be hurting anything so, I guess whatever.

P10800182.JPG

hahahah ok maybe not totally relevant just felt like sharing this - Corleone Kush #2 is doing this on purpose to get back at me for being so harsh on her, calling her a dude and everything... growing some of the most beautiful big leaves all over now. point taken, I'm sorry girl...

P1080042.JPG

and I found 2 local nightcrawlers today when I picked up a log outside hahaha, I figured they were a gift for my OG Kush PR in the 10 gal smart pot :)

P1080044.JPG

Told you it'd be long lol. Hope someone can use this info in their own grows.

SoilGirl, you actually being very helpful here. Though most of the time, you write a lot, they are all useful informations and we all appreciate that. I believe you have helped a lot ppl in their growing. :bravo:

Aww thanks so much Sara!! I love to get messages like this :) I really hope that all this helps other growers. It can be intimidating to new growers especially. I wish I could have found a comprehensive guide (like I'm trying to do) for free when I was getting started. It would have saved me Lots of time and money. Lately it's been so rewarding to see others' grows improve indirectly because of me just being there to pass on simple advice :)

Take care!

Looking wonderful in those rooms SoilGirl. It's always an adventure. The living mulch warms my heart. I can see how much my own plants love having a plant community to share the space with and I can only imagine the energy it brings to the micro community in my soil. I was just giving mine a nice chop last night. Now it's all open and airy underneath, at least for a couple days. It pleases me to drop fresh mulch on the surface almost daily.

That's me! That's me! I'm one of those!

Superb update, SG. :thanks: (If you ever need any advice about how to get nice long colas, just ask. I was mentored by a fabulous, highly talented, loquacious, fiercely intelligent, incredibly kind and witty woman).
:love::love::love:

EDIT: I forgot to say "gorgeous" woman. Don't ask. I just know.

Great update Soilgirl.

With the mold in that one pot - that doesnt worry you? I only ask because I had mold on one of my plants on my outside grow and had to cut it all off so now im kinda tweaky about it. Would that mold spread to your plant?

Your girls look amazing!

Hey soilgirl!! Awesome preflowers clone u got there! I had this happen myself recently but was with two strains both are land races to washington. My first thought was they must be great genetics? I don't know why and neither does the other growers I know. But I do know it's nice cause it shows ur males before u go into flower, but not so nice if u don't check on them daily.

I found 5 plants out of 24 that were male so I put them in a separate room and let it stay there for a week. This was under a 18/6 light schedule

Oh my gosh Sue doesn't the living mulch? It really gives an aura of life - of an active ecosystem within the grow room. I definitely notice that my plants being started with living mulch are all growing much faster than previously without, they take off like its a race! They (the living mulch sprouts) must really build an active myco community fast, and its great to know that my soil will live on because of them after the cannabis is chopped. And the fresh mulch is great, :) I've been reading about the cover crop choices and wow - they really do a lot for the soil, much more than just keeping it moist! Here's what in my cover crop blend everyone:

Oats - Rockford
Flax - Brown
Clover - Yellow Sweet
Clover - Duch
Clover - Medium Red
Clover - Crimson
Lentils - Indainhead
Safflower
Hairy Vetch
Vetch - Common
Rape - Dwarf Essex
Buckwheat - Mancan
Pea - Forage

And also - Here's a link to read about them and their many uses as top cover! (get through the first few intro pages of the powerpoint then it gets very informative)

 hahahaha yes one of those is definitely you, you're such an amazingly quick learner/natural grower/awesome, sweet, funny guy Mr. Teddy! and awwwww, lol I know your game you flatterer, but then still, aw you're so sweet! Thank you so much my friend  I bet you'd crack up seeing my instant blush in real life when reading that.. what a nice thing to get on here and see.

:circle-of-love: thank you Mr. Teddy, I hope you, Mrs., and Little Teddy are all having a happy, cozy day :)

edit: as for my looks hahah - I know I've done little nail pics on here that may make me seem vain, but in all honesty I'm glad beauty isn't relevant here. Not because I dislike how I look but because I'm really not one of those girls that always needs validation of my looks. I'm happy going to the store in furry slippers and blue camo Pj's lmao. Still if only for fun I think I'll eventually put some actual pics of me up here, I picture a lembatoast style bud-meditation pic  I don't really have anything to hide or be scared of, and of all things a girl can be, being a 420 Girl I wouldn't mind :)
Great update Soilgirl.

With the mold in that one pot - that doesnt worry you? I only ask because I had mold on one of my plants on my outside grow and had to cut it all off so now im kinda tweaky about it. Would that mold spread to your plant?

Your girls look amazing!
Hi nhteatime! Thanks for coming by! :volcano-smiley:

The mold is exactly like what I see on my cooking soils or my leaf mold pile, so I'm not particularly worried about it. This sort of organic growing is very resilient to bad fungi, and very good at incorporating good fungi. Perhaps it could become a problem if it got in contact with an unhealthy leaf - but I have none hahaha. Fungi actually is a sign I'm doing something right - I'm creating a biologically active environment :) - if I weren't using living organics, it probably never would have formed, which says a lot about the capacity for life and growth in this soil.

On the other hand, synthetics and pH'ing will Uber-F**K any living soil, for lack of a better phrase. You might as well poor a tub of table salt into your soil, the microbe activity will be similar next to an LOS. Synthetic nutes, and I'll expand this to organic bottled nutes - soups as we call them - because they also make use of 'organic' chelates and are very vague about ingredient sources, both strong signs of a force feeding approach - kill living soil. They just do. Even seemingly insignificant amounts of synthetic fertilizers can completely throw a previously living soil out of balance, breaking fungal chains that take a long time to develop... If your nutritional regimen for your plants revolves around a fixed schedule of feedings, you're likely force feeding, and going about your horticulture in a very unnatural, recently developed way...like it or not, your style of growing CAN be improved upon. Now LOS - ... frankly you can't improve much. I'm sure we'll learn more in time, but I mean... this is classic stuff, age old stuff. We're just rediscovering it through the lens of modern science.
Great update SG.....plants look amazing.......a couple a little droopy but healthy as hell:).......that CK#1 clone is crazy....the one leave to the right of the pic reminds me of my Holly bushes:)lol......wierd how her leaves look:).....either way keep up what your doing as your doing it right:):bravo:
Thanks GD!! So glad you enjoyed it - yeah a couple droopers, both which happened to spend some time under my 90w GrowUFO from Sunshine Systems. I think that may be the culprit, being too low. Oh well they should perk up now if that was the issue :) hahaha and right aren't big healthy cannabis leaves a trip to look at.

Hi Gfc! :ciao: Right? I'm really confused why they're starting to flower in 24 hour light, never had this happen to this degree before. I also am leaning towards that RCB just being some freakishly good genetics - I'm telling you that one SMELLS. And from the way it grows (geez it has a stem as big as a lighter?! news to me!) I really might be on to something special here, imo. Hopefully!

Cool pic there, no doubt pre-flowering is a useful phenomena whatever causes it. Glad you caught those males! Thanks for coming by as always ;)

Amazing update  ~!

The length of your posts don't think bothers anybody, least not me. I really enjoy reading them!
:circle-of-love:

Girls are gorgeous! :goodjob:

The one that is flowering in 24h schedule might be an auto :cheer: That'd be cool!
:peace:
Aw thanks so much daTs! Hahaha I wondered if it would be an auto, but my friend out in NorCal doesn't grow autos. Totally confusing. Maybe my lights powered out for a short time a couple times and that helped influence it? IDK. Weird for sure. Not that I'm upset, more flowers for me!

Haha thanks guys. I just wonder if I'm putting too much energy into it at times, and if anyone's really learning from it or just looking at pics :S which I suppose I could provide without the lengthy testimonials, so thanks so much for saying that its no bother to you; I don't see very many grow journals as talkative as mine (Hahaha, except probably Sweetsue's ) so I wonder if I should try and post more like other journalers sometimes, it certainly would save me time haha, and if in fact people were annoyed with the length of my posts then, I suppose it would be a win win.

I'm glad you guys say that's not the case though. :circle-of-love: but still, perhaps there's more of a middle ground between being comprehensive and being long winded yet to be found that would make everyone happy. :Namaste:

But I'm also doing these journals for me, I want to be able to look back in the future and be like 'oh I did that on day so and so, now I should do this.' - doing such a comprehensive journal, is in a way forcing me to grow in a more organized, effective way; forcing me to grow better! Hahaha, and now that I mention it, I hardly see anyone who teaches (or just tries to teach) how to grow cannabis, even if they start off rocky, do badly. I think there's a lot to be said for learning through teaching :) - if you have a passion for sharing info, share! It will be good for you and the people learning from you :)

I used to worry about being long-winded. I decided that the people reading were worthy of my authentic self, and she's a wordy wench. :laughtwo:

I'm pretty sure we all stop here to talk with you, not some toned-down version. You just keep being you.

Fluxing Flowerers Update! (Or perhaps Flowering Fluxers) :laughtwo:

Just continuing the tradition of goofy yet serious fluxers :) - I think having fun with it is an integral part of the process haha. If I felt like fluxing was a chore - it would never get done.

Yet today it felt more like a chore than ever. I'm glad its over lol, as great as it smelled pulling off all those leaves... I have faith in LA's ways, its just tough >.< Here's a look after defol.

Black Bubba Weirdo Flux!

I went easier on BBK as far as fan leaf removal in the mid/upper regions, but had to remove lots of spindly low growth nodes. I think it was enough for now - but will probably have to go further in a week or so.

Corleone Kush #1 Flux!

Got the worst/most of my defoling, but I still left a few big fans in the outer areas. They're not covering anything and big fans can store lots of CO2 and nutrition, so why not. This ones got such awesome structure, can't wait to flux one of it's clones.

Faith. Faith. Faith. (Science Science Science!!Not faith!!:laughtwo: I have scientific faith. - - sorry the irony hurt too much making a mantra of the word 'faith' and being a devout atheist. This is a joke for other atheists and believers. felt like clarifying that for political correctness' sake.... 'cuz you know LOL - believers get a bit touchy about their imaginary friends and all.... ok sorry, sorry I couldn't resist, just taking your advice Sue! I think the believers here can take it ;) only joking. only joking... mostly. my distant family certainly is touchy!! oh boy back to the journal before this gets out of hand - Sue, you have no idea how hard it is for me to not erase all of this right now, even when I'm stoned I guess I tone myself down and worry what others think a lot!! Ok step one. not erasing this and wasting my time writing it. :lot-o-toke:

OK. Gathering myself.

Moving on :)

SoilG, your personality and beauty really do show through this journal, your doing a hell of a job! This is one of my favorites to read through. Keep it up!!
Aww marz that's so sweet of you to say, thanks so much!! I'm really happy that you enjoy it!

hahahaha I love the way you put that Sue :) I really appreciate it.. and will do my best haha :)

Beautiful and poetic. Your living mulch rocks girl! LOS does create a passion in the gardener. After the initial steps to assure a rich and balanced soil it becomes so easy to maintain. I'm pretty certain that as we move forward it's the quality of the vermicompost that will make the most difference. The continuous top dressings replenish the soil so effectively in a smoothly running community. Since we control the quality of input we can tweak it any way we need to.

I think I get most excited thinking about the building strength of the Mycorrihizal fungi, their hyphae expanding to fill the volume of soil, reaching out to supply the plant's every need with an explosion of feeder lines. Creating stability and unity through the soil community. It reminds me of the network of fascia that fills every open space contained within our own skin not taken up by organs or vessels. Extraordinary. We now know that space is also filled with a cosmic netting, much like the fascia and the soil fungi. The universe is a series of nettings, from smallest to largest, seen and unseen. We are all one in the end.

Believers who are threatened by your lack of faith in their chosen deity need to examine their own faith structure. Faith, by its very definition, is belief in what cannot be proven. I personally have never felt the need to try to influence anyone to my own faith structure, beyond the opportunity to live by example. My daughter defines herself as an "atheist with a little a". LOL. Being raised in my home she knows there's more to it all than she can explain, but she's reasonably certain it has little to do with organized religion and control.

I'm proud of you for toning the censor down today. Well done.
