SOGgy Daze Ahead For Mr. Krip!

A WELL AEREATED SOIL would be fine, but make sure that the bottom of the hempy is perlite, this will eliminate the problem with root rot. In the Hempy style, they aren't really in the pots for long so root rot isn't much of a problem anyways, but perlite, rocks, hydroton, etc, up about a 1/4" ABOVE the hempy holes will work. This would also eliminate the need for holes in the bottom of the pot, which would eliminate the res at the bottom, therefore no longer being Hempy, but just smaller pots.

O and by the way, I am going to try this method and just all soil and compare on my next grow. I am focusing mainly now on learning exactly what my babies need and when. Also, what my soil needs and how it relates directly to my plant. But thanks for the input. I could of swore I wrote you thanks back, because I love the idea.It was brilliant! But I guess I spaced out or my fiance xd out one of my tabs. But anyways, lol, :thankyou: :Namaste:

@OMM,

yes, paint the bottom so no light gets in. Someone else suggested MtDew bottles, I think because the bottle is green instead of clear.

They have the regular soil ones with holes in the bottom for about $0.79, I don't see why these would be any tougher.

Hell, I'd pay a buck fifty to not have to take chances with scissors and drilling into a 2l bottle. Given my luck, one of these days I'm gonna have a quarter inch hole through my hand.

Try using a box cutter for the 2liters, works great! Also what I do is cut a slit about 1inch long and 1-2cm thick right at 2inches from the bottom of the 2liter. No drill, not poking a hole in your hand, and no perlite falls out. Quick and easy way, but then again to each there own.:thumb:

I spray painted w/ black and then used a pointed pair of scissors to poke, then twist, a hole into the bottle...no power tools, or blades required :) very little mix falls out, the hole is only 3/8" big.

I apologise for jacking into this great thread but does anyone know where Xare is hanging out theses days? I have a coupls questions about his drip system..

Hey, everyone! Sorry I've been scarce this week but lots of work and I'll have a good update coming in just a few minutes.

I think the topic has been well covered while I was gone, but just to add my $0.02 worth, I do paint the bottoms with some "plastic" spray paint I picked up at one of the home centers. I cut the bottles using a rotary tool (i.e. Dremel) with a cutoff wheel, which works perfectly and is quick! Then, I put a total of 10 holes in the sides using a small soldering iron, which is also quick & clean.

Any of the described methods should work fine! There's not really any science involved in cutting a plastic bottle and putting some holes in it! :)

UPDATE TIME!

Once again, sorry for the abscence this week and I hope all of you are doing well and your plants are just as good!

I'll do my best to catch up on everyone's journals over the weekend.

I figured since I was gone for so long, I couldn't make an appearance without a full update so here it goes:

I haven't switched to the Rapid Rooters yet, but the batch of clones I took last week were in what was left of the rockwool, so the RR's will be used on the next batch. But, my cloning has gotten MUCH better with the humidity dome! :yahoo:

Here's the set of clones taken last Friday and this pic was shot a few minutes after they were clipped:

Here's the same set of clones today, a week later, and you can see there's virtually no yellowing or wilting, and even though there are no roots showing out of the cube yet, you can see how much they've grown:

Here are the rooted clones & mom's:

A closer look at the rooted clones. The Power Skunk in the back-right will get transplanted to a 2 L and go into flower later today or tomorrow, depending on how my schedule goes:

And, in the flower tent, things are starting to get fun! :partyboy:

There are now 13 plants in the tent, again, with one more going in today or tomorrow, and here's a shot showing the whole tent setup right now:

DSCN18561.JPG

Here's a closer look at the plants, which I still have a little spread out, since I've still got the room. The four on the right are about six weeks old, the four in the row second from the right are three weeks old, the five to the left of them are about 1-2 weeks old:

You can see how the first four plants were still a little shorter than I wanted, but the second four plant are the exact height I was shooting for, so in addition to everything else, I'm also getting the veg time dialed in:

I'll try to take the older plants out of the cab for some close-ups this weekend to show off the trich development, but none of these strains are letting me down! :yummy:

Here's the six-week old Pineapple Express:

The six-week old Power Skunk with one of the six-week old Lucy's peeking out from behind it:

The other of the two six-week old Lucy's:

And, a quick look at these 3-week old Power Skunks which are gonna be nice, tall, bud sticks with the way those nodes are stacked!:

Great Growing Mr.K,

Looks like you've got things just the way you wanted...:cheertwo:

Looking forward to some pics of those girls in natural light. The led's make them look monochrome, I think is what you'd call that.

I was lucky enough to get a lucy, should be here shortly...I'm looking forward to trying her. :)

Missed you, glad your back

:peace:

Do you folks paint or cover the sides of the bottles. To protect the roots?
Thanks.:Namaste:

Hey bro, I don't know if you had ever seen what SteveHman did, but he used 4" drain PVC cut into like 7" or 8" lengths with a cap on the end. I don't remember what a 10 food length of the pvc costs... but it's not a whole lot. Cutting 8 inch segments you'd get between 13-15 pieces (allowing fore some waste) per pipe. And test caps are like what $.20 a piece?

I know that still cost's a lot more than free, but I don't drink soda, and thought it was a very cool idea he had!

:Namaste:

I remember reading that but I already had my 2liters... Sound like a winner though. Those should last forever with just a little cleaning.

wow, those power skunks are great genes. I like how they look like pin cushions in 3/4 bloom, Nice.

Thanks, Frank! I am also impressed with the Power Skunk, especially considering it was a freebie seed when I ordered the other two strains! :)

Thanks, Sqwheels! :thanks: I'll try to get some natural light pics done this afternoon. Congrats on picking up a Lucy - it's a great strain! :yummy:

Mr Krip!:bravo:

Thanks so much for the pictures of your girls. I'm a visual learner and seeing your girls in various states of growth was great. Good looking girls too! I can't wait to start my SOG. Thanks! :thumb:

Thanks, Brother, and I'm glad it was helpful. I can't wait for you to start your SOG, too!

Plants are looking good Mr K, it will be full in no time.

Thanks, OG! Yeah, it's moving pretty quick now that I have my cloning issues worked out. In fact, maybe a little too quick! I'll post a couple pics in a minute. :)

QUICK CLONE UPDATE

In yesterday's pics, I showed a tray of nine clones taken last Friday that really are the healthiest set of clones I've done so far.

As of yesterday, I hadn't noticed any roots from any of the cubes. But, now it's been 8 days and I'm starting to see roots explode! :yahoo:

They all still look nice & green with no wilting or yellowing:

DSCN1867.JPG

But, I'm starting to see roots like this:

DSCN18691.JPG

I just transplanted the clone above to a mini hempy and will have a couple of more to do today.

This, obviously, is a very good thing, but it does create some temporary issues since I may run out of veg room soon! :)

But, due to my "cloning trials & tribulations" I've not only learned to clone much better, but also understand and appreciate the importance of this skill, especially when running a SOG.

During the earlier stages, my clones were taking close to two weeks, and sometimes more, to root. By the time they were rooted, they were pretty yellow and wilted (no humidity dome), and because they were shorter clones taken from the Bonsai's, they would have to recover before they really started vertical growth, and several had to veg for over a month before they were big enough to put into flower, and even then, many were shorter than I would have liked.

By taking larger clones that are rooting quicker, and are healthy when they do root, I'm able to eliminate something like two weeks of veg time and grow the SOG much quicker.

Take a tip from Krip and start honing your cloning! :)

Happy Harvests!
