SOGgy Daze Ahead For Mr. Krip!

PIC UPDATE

OK...Here's today's update:

Lucy is still looking the best of the three Bonsais in training:

When you take a quick look, you can see her six tops. BUT, if you look a little closer, one of the recent spots that got topped is actually spawning THREE tops instead of only two:

DSCN12662.JPG

You won't really see it in this picture, but, this is also happening to one of the recent tops on the Power Skunk:

The PE Bonsai seems to have gotten a little nute burn after the last feeding. I'm not sure why, except she's the only one still in the original hempy, so she probably needs a flush. I figure I'll just transplant her in the next week or so:

Here's the flower tent:

The six plants that got added last week:

Very Nice for sure! It sucks about the clones but hopefully they pick up soon. I'm also a schedule nut myself. I always try to get things running smoothly and predict when something needs to happen but it always sucks when things don't go according to plan.

Thanks, TOG! Yeah, it does suck about the clones. I guess what's really bothering me is that I don't think the clones will make it, or it will take them a long time to recover. So, normally I'd just cut some more clones, but the moms really aren't in a position to give up any more for a couple more weeks. So, I kinda feel like the cloning part of the "operation" is at a standstill and there's nothing I can really do about it. It was one of the major challenges I had in switching to a SOG without having some viable mothers ready to go, which is why I was waivering so much on schedules.

Once I have my mothers grown out, I think things will fall into place pretty quick.

Mr. K, my friend, This tent is awesome, I know you are loving that investment right now!! I'm sure you will work through the clone situation, I know your skills. Everything looks great, the PE is TASTY!!
I can't wait to go the bonsai route. That Lucy is something special my friend . They are great for breeding. Will add power to anything you breed it to like it's skunk backgrounds tend to do. Same can be said of Mazar of course, Some great crosses of it as well...

Hi Mr. Krip -

Looking great! Sorry to hear about the clone issues, but I know you'll get it all figured out. I agree with OMM - nice to see your thought process. GT is making me excited to harvest my Lucy! :)

I've checked out the manual for your camera Nikon CoolPix L100 and on page 82, "PRE Preset" manual in White balance. You've followed the instruction I'm not sure why the colors isn't coming through. Could be the sensor chip itself and its ability to render the different spectrum and applying the opposite colors for the balance.

There are few different ways to achieve the natural green colors from the plants in your photos.

- Leave the custom white balance alone and use a daylight CFL in the tent with the LED on for some dramatic look. You'll still get the purple colors but the plants closest to the lens will have neutral colors. Or use the on camera flash for the same effect without the need of another CFL light.

- Have the LED off for a moment and use daylight CFL/MH to light the plants for photo session, set the white balance to fluorescent/daylight for natural colors.

LED is a bit tricky I find that DSLR tend to be more flexible with custom white balance. Either way, having a healthy plant is more important, and however you like your photos best represent them is up to you. :thumb:

Twelve, thanks and actually, I was re-thinking the process and it occured to me that when I did the white balance adjustment, I had the sheet of computer paper on the floor of the tent. I'm betting the silver lining was getting bleed-through from the light and that's why the pics looked metallic!

So, I just took a few more pics, but first, I adjusted white balance to the pre-filter on the carbon filter. The pics definately look better already, but the carbon filter is porous and I think I need to get something solid white in there for calibration to really get it right.

In the mean time, here's a few pics I just took. The buds are really getting thick on these short plants! :yummy:

Hey Mr.K,

Lookin' nice and frosty in that tent. :cheer:

^^ I was about to ask the same, i think he is flowering under a MH, instead of an HPS, is this the case???

if so, why?
just curious, is this an experiment your running or something?

Why do they look so blue/metallic ??

I'm flowering with an LED and been working on the white balance adjustment to try to get the color as natural as possible in the pictures under some very unnatural lighting. Without the white balance adjustment, those pics look like this from the LED:

If you add some CFL's to the mix I'm sure you can get some accent lighting so the auto white balance can better adjust to the harshness of the purple. Just a thought. The metallic looks pretty cool to me though.

They are looking good K. I think you should shoot the pic different each time.....one time pink, the next silver, the next blue, since everybody likes them a different way. Or you could get a strip of white foamboard at the art store and hold it over the plants while you adjust white balance (camera on tripod), remove the strip and shoot away. (how the pros do it)

I did try that, but I only hung one fixture with two CFL bulbs and it wasn't enough to really do anything in that large an area and actually made things worse. I have a feeling I'm gonna need to have at least two CFL fixtures, each with multiple bulbs, and have them pretty close to the plants to see any real improvement. But, I'm still working at tuning both the lights and the white balance preset to get the best possible pics in the tent.

In fact, OG, I just did something almost identical. I took a piece of white foam and wrapped it in white computer paper (taped). It was extremely light-weight, so I actually placed it right on top of the plants and then did a white balance adjustment. Some of the pics are a little better, but still need to find the right mix.

Here's the most recent pics after trying the above:

This one is of the one Lucy in flower and is probably the closest color-wise:

And, here's a few of the PE's and Power Skunk which don't look too much better than the last batch:

We'll get it nailed down soon!

I use Picassa's color adjustment tool and it works wonders, just pick a white or neutral spot in the pic and it adjusts the balance for you. It helps to have it close to start with, but for a free program from Google, you can't beat it. I also use it to export/re-size pics for posting.

No matter what color the photo, those plants look really nice Mr. K! Twelve12 and others will have us all shooting better photos in no time. :)

Haha I know right! I am already learning how to shoot better quality photos. Not only did I pick up a growing hobby, I also picked up a photography hobby.

looking great Mr. K. keep up the good works.:thumb:

Thanks, Bro's! They are coming along nicely. I just wish they were a little taller and I was moving clones in a little quicker, but we'll get there!
