Skylining: My Guide To Cannabis Training Featuring Blue Gelato 41 & Pink Kush

I got some update fellas :passitleft:

The hydro store told me that the order for my tent is going to be delayed for an unknown time. So I decided to use what I got and set the second 3x3 tent up. One tent will be containing the Blue Gelato 41 and the clones when they will be ready for flowering, and the other tent will be dedicated to Pink Kush to be skylined.

I want my clones and PK to stretch so I am using 3000K boards on that tent. I will move the clones to the other tent when they get bigger.

I want to stack nodes on my BG41 and therefore I am using my own full spectrum LED's for that plant. These almost produce two times blue light compared to 3000K's. Another news is that I've transplanted her into a 10gal. fabric pot. Fabric pot is placed on a grill to let the bottom breathe. I think she will fill the pot in a week or two so I can flip in a week without hesitation but we'll see.

I think Pink Kush will be stretching fine under 3000K's and will go into flowering in 3-4 weeks. All of these plants had problematic starts due to some maintainance in my apartment and some inconvenience. We won't be losing any time from this point so get ready for a better show.

Cheers :blunt:

Cool, it’s a good strain that I really like.

It looks and sounds amazing and I actually smoked two grams of Pink Kush on my visit to Amsterdam last year. I got that two gram nug straight from Barney's dispansery and it looked and smelled amazing. However the taste was weak and the high wasn't that distinct because I smoked PK joints after like half gram of Dr. Grinspoon :rip: That was sure the best strain I tasted there.

I am sure Pink Kush is amazing and I think the bad taste and high was Barney's fault. I accepted the challenge and got myself a 5-pack to grow amazing Pink Kush buds. Can't wait to see her bloom :Rasta:

I got some minor update folks :passitleft:

I've transplanted the stunted Pink Kush clone into a big fabric pot. I noticed that I don't have any fabric pots left so other clones have to wait for a couple more days. I don't know what is wrong with the biggest clone but I am doing everything right so I am expecting her to return to good health soon.

I've watered all of the clones with diluted H202 and I wasn't able to find a good recipe around. I went with 17ml per litre and will be watching them closely. I will continue feeding them tomorrow. I will also wash the big plants with the same recipe if needed.

I am watering the BG41 with three litres of heavy solution for every two days. I am trying to leave the medium as dry as possible to promote root growth. I will flip her in a week and it will be a hot summer for her. Temp. is already around 29 degrees Celsius inside the tent and I think it will go higher because it is not the hottest time of the summer yet. I will keep the canopy as far as possible from the lights and probably won't using my full spectrum LED board at maximum power. It is already super bright.

Hey folks :passitleft:

I've been texting with Prof. Flora and asked for his recipe for a H2O2 coco wash. He said that he is using 7.5ml/l of H202 but I did use 17ml/l. That ratio burnt my thumb so it must be more than effective on the fungus gnat larvae that I've been suffering for a while. He also told me that he resets his pots 30 minutes after the H2O2 wash. I haven't reset my pots yet and I am keeping close eye on my plant. Nothing was crawling on the surface the next day so I decided to add two more sticky tapes on top of the coco. Nothing is trapped in there yet. Prof's recipe should work for larvae but he told me that it didn't effect the gnats and after resetting the pot, they immediately continued to lay eggs. I don't want that to happen so I left the H2O2 in and added these traps. I hope these will work.

Another news is that I found another species on the top coco layer. This pot didn't have any perlitte topping and was kind of an open target for pests but this species is very unfamiliar for lots of cannabis growers since they don't appear on most cannabis pest articles or threads on different platforms. I think they don't fly and live in 1-2cm depth from the surface.

After doing a broad research, I was convinced that these were not harmful to the plant and maybe thats why people don't include them in the most common cannabis pest lists. The name of the species is "Hypoaspis Miles" AKA fungus gnat predator who feeds on their larvae. I absolutely have no idea how they got inside my coco and what kind of a sick ecosystem is going down there but its fucking wild wild west, six feets under :smokin2:

Here is what I captured;

You can search google images with the keywords "hypoaspis miles" to be on the same page with me. I think this is what I photographed. Anyways, I am definately thinking on moving to DWC for my upcoming grows. Pest live inside the medium are the most inconvenient ones to treat for me. I can always spray Spinosad on thrips and be done with them. It is relatively easier to control the pests that are visible.

Blue Gelato 41 is happy and getting ready for flowering. I decided to give her a little extra time to fill the pot. I added Mykos to the menu and will be checking the outer rim daily. When I see some roots touching the fabric, I will flip. I don't expect this plant to grow vertically now because it must be focusing on the roots. I watered them today and I will dry the whole medium out and wait for at least a day. I need fast flip on that plant.

Cheers :passitleft:

Hey folks,

BG41 is looking terrific today and that made me flip her. I will feed her daily because roots are expanding now and I think two-three weeks would be enough for them to fill the pot. I don't start counting flowering weeks before the transition week is over so some of you guys can consider that as the first week of flowering. For me, this post is a flip day reminder because I tend to forget the dates easily.

12/12

Other plants are also doing fine and I still haven't seen anything crawling on the open coco surface. I got a single mature fungus gnat on one of the tapes on the surface. I am getting more H202 this week and I will flush all of the medium and add like 10 more sticky yellow traps. I hope they will all go away for good.

Peace :passitleft:

My air dehumidifier has just arrived. I placed the device outside of the tents. It seems to affect the RH inside the tents because I haven't been able to read anything below %50 for a long time. PK and clones tent had %43 RH this afternoon and I will check on BG41 in a few hours since her light schedule is flipped.

Another good news is that this device collects a fair amount of water since the grow area has an open bug filtered filtered window. This water is comparable to purified water and should be very low in pH and PPM. I'll make tests this evening and share the results tomorrow. I am expecting at least 100PPM difference and that means I can feed my plants at least %10 stronger with that water. It will also reduce my pH down and overall tap water usage.

Here is what I've bought;

Hey folks :passitleft:

I am back with the test results for the humidifier water. This device can collect a gal. of water everyday. I am running this device for like 15-16hours a day and it reduces the RH inside both of my tents by at least %9. I think I won't be using tap water anymore. At least until mid bloom.

These are great news. I am feeding my plants at 900PPM at most and this means at least %11 more nutrients. pH difference is also huge. I need a new pH down recipe for the dehumidifier water.

Cheers :blunt:

I got some update on the veg. tent guys.

I've transplanted the remaining clones and topped all of the pots with lots of perlite. Fungus gnat thing is still going on but they are too few in numbers. I will do a second wash with the H2O2 since I added new medium without flushing it. I thought it would be better to transplant and wash the whole thing for one more time. I will use a rather hard ratio again.

Here is the final lineup for this journal. Cheers :passitleft:

Got some more update for BG41 as well;

Blue Gelato 41 is also a "Skylined" plant but with a different approach compared to the original idea which I've demonstrated with my PP in the first post. This gal has many stems instead of two mainlines and doesn't look just as organised but, since I've topped this plant from a higher point, things will be very convenient and growing this plant won't be exhausting. As I said, Skylining is basically mainlining from a higher point so you can also quad-octo...line your plants from a higher point.

As I expected, the main BG41 filled the 10gal. pot. I can see roots coming out from the fabric. It was a risky call but BG41 proved that I can always count on big plants, when it comes to transplanting to a 10 gal. pot with the flip.

Cheers :passitleft:

Almost a week without update. Sorry for that and I am back with some huge growth on BG41. Pink Kush and the clones are also doing fine. I think only the biggest clone can be considered as an established plant because she filled her pot. Others are still recovering from transplant. I will flip them together with the skylined Pink Kush.

This BG has amazing veg. genetics and also stretch is kinda huge. I am still feeding her with veg. nutes but I can't afford a lot more stretch after this point so I will swap to flowering nutes tomorrow. The recipe will be like;

-GH Flora Coco Grow(1ml/l)
-GH Flora Coco Bloom(4ml/l)
-AN Big Bud(2ml/l)
-AN Rhino Skin(2ml/l)

I don't need pH down anymore because I am using the dehumidifier water. I will add Flora Coco Bloom until I reach 1100PPM in mid flowering and this water is saving 100PPM for me. No deficiencies at all and I think it is totally safe to use that water. I just need a proper hose to collect the water in a bigger container. Also, these nutes have plenty of minerals so I don't have to use any extra Cal/Mag product. I've never seen any nutrient problems on both plants. Pretty simple setup for flowering and I think this recipe is very effective. Watch this plant boom. I hope the fungus gnats won't hurt my yield too much. I am keeping them in control but they are still there...

Here are the plants guys. Cheers :passitleft:

I also got some new data concerning the LED modules that I am currently using for this grow.

As you guys might know, I've built my own full spectrum quantum board and I've been testing these lights on this grow. My design works way more efficient and produces way more light compared to the industry standart Atreum boards and 240W Meanwell drivers.

I've compared the PPFD results on the same wattage and they can be considered close eventhough my lights are providing at least %15 more. I've measured the heat of drivers and LED's as well as the heatsinks.

As you guys can see, my heatsink is huge compared to Atreum's or any other quantum board manufacturer's. Let me share the results with you guys;

As you can see, drivers are almost running at the same heat but there is a great difference on heatsinks and LED's themselves. This is where performance and lifetime of these LED modules differ. ELG-240 is a better driver than XLG-240, since the ELG has dual transformers while the XLG has a single one, and this explains the heat difference on these different drivers. I deliberately used the better driver for Atreum boards to emphasise the game changing factor on these passive cooling LED designs, which is a greater heatsink.

My choice of a bigger heatsink explains the temperature difference between these LED's. My design allows the diodes to operate six degrees Celsius cooler. That is huge but since I have limitations on my driver, I am not cranking this module all the way up. This puppy provides a hell lot more light with ELG and HLG series drivers but I don't recommend cranking these that much on summer. Tent is around 30 degrees and I am counting on my strong ventilation for this bloom period.

When your LED's operate at a lower temp. they don't want to pull more current than they should. If a diode gets hotter, then it needs more current and six degrees difference is huge if we are talking efficiency. Lifetime of the diode will also increase because it is mostly about the amount of current flowing through the diode.

My final design will be here in a month. I've added Osram Oslon 660nm deep red and upgraded the module to 300W. I will be using Osram drivers instead of Meanwell. I think these are slightly more efficient than Meanwell's and has more lifetime. My friend in the industry told me that Osram drivers are tier 1 drivers, while Meanwell's are considered tier 2. I asked him about the Inventronics and he advised against these as well. I will be using 360W driver for that module but I'll drive the board just enough to get 300W actual from the wall. I've also designed a 150W version of the same module, to be driven with a 180W Osram driver. I can't wait to get my hands on the final product and share it with you guys.

Cheers :passitleft:

I would like to repost these two pictures of BG41 to show how much she grew in two weeks. First pic was taken on 16th of july and the second one was taken in 30th of july. I've defoliated her three times in that period but she can't be stopped. This is why I prefer bigger plants, topped from a higher point. They can fill the net and stretch in no time. Node stacking is also satisfying and more nodes are also on the way.

Cheers :passitleft:
