Skylining: My Guide To Cannabis Training Featuring Blue Gelato 41 & Pink Kush

I've also fed my vegging plants. I used 5ml/l of Flora Coco Grow instead of the regular 3ml/l for small plants. PPM was around 880 so I think Pink Kush can handle it. I'll watch her closely and keep feeding her heavy if she responds well. I will add a flush before flowering to make sure all of the excess veg. nutes are washed away. I will also start feeding my small plants heavier in a couple of days. I am loving that dehumidifier water :meatballs:

Blue Gelato 41 is looking cockier now. I spreaded all of the tips to promote node stacking. I am waiting for the next node set to spread the tips again and I think there will be a couple more to do the same thing this week. Doing this also prevents stretch and this is what I need after that point. New tips are coming in a very light green color. I think we'll see some bloom signs in a few days. I was expecting around 150 grams from this plant but it really got huge and that totally changed my expectations. I think this puppy will get me around 250 grams easily.

BG#41 for you guys. Cheers :passitleft:

Well the small plants are showing some evident growth. I think everything is fine now and I need to top these babies as well. After topping everything, this veg. tent will also flip into flowering with 4 plants. Then I'll probably start a DWC grow to leave all these pest issues behind me.

Here is how the plants look;

The window of the grow room is always open and it has a bug filter frame attached outside. This means humidity always going into my room. But the dehumidifier seems to be doing a very goodjob even from outside of the tents. Let me share the current RH in my veg. tent;

I am running my dehumidifier for 24 hours for a couple of days and very happy with the results. I am collecting more than a gal. of water and using this pH and EC perfect water to feed my plants daily. Thats the way to say goodbye to pH down :blunt:Humidity in veg. tent was around %55 and it is now around %40. Same thing goes for my flowering tent as well. BG41 was blooming in %65 RH but now she is around %45-50. I need higher humidity for veg. but I prefer having these conditions for both tents just to be safe inside my flowering tent. When plants get bigger, veg. tent will also hold a little bit more RH.

My main problem is the heat now. I got more than 18 inches from lights to canopy on my bloom tent. Temp is around 33 degrees Celsius but I have a fan blowing onto canopy. I will install a second fan to be sure. I think Rhino Skin also helps the plant to deal with the excess heat. I'll cut down silica three weeks before the harvest though.

Cheers :passitleft:

Blue Gelato is doing great. I defoliated her a little bit more and now I'll leave her alone for 5-6 days. I'll defoliate for the last time before week four.

I noticed a great difference between the tops that are under Atreum's and my own modules. My module features full spectrum so this much difference on veg. state and transition weeks were already expected. Node stacking is also better for the DIY tops. Anyways, I've cranked Atreum's up a little bit and they still don't produce as much PPFD as my LED's and they are getting damn hot. I will match the PPFD of both modules and share the temperature's of the LED's, drivers and heatsinks again. I think my LED's are running at least 15 degrees Celsius cooler than Atreum's on same PPFD. No bullshit here, we'll see the results together.

Here is Blue Gelato #41 on her 14th day of flowering. Cheers :passitleft:

@Ganjagrandaddy I know you grow and enjoy BG41 and wanted to tag you. I got an indica dominant phenotype of BG41 this time. I thought you might want to check this out. This one looks very different from the ones that I grew earlier :passitleft:

I prepared a pH and PPM summary chart for future reference. This Blue Gelato #41 is vegged for 11 weeks from the sprout but first at two weeks, I couldn't spend enough time for both of my plants so things started real slow. I think normally I would achieve the same plants in 9 weeks easily and as you guys can see, this plant is bulky even for an eleven weeks old one. This plant had literally zero problems except pests and the lazy first two weeks. Skylining is definately an effective way to veg. your plants and we will see shortly how this puppy performs in flowering. I am expecting 10 weeks of bloom period.

Cheers :passitleft:

Hope it is stable. So many have gone sideways but some beautiful results ( like yours previously). So far the crosses from it have been stellar .wishing could have got a finished up 100% bg41. Good luck mate. They look good so far. Thanks for the tag.

Heat is a pain in the ass. Not tried rhinoskin before. Did use "liquid ice" product that helped last summer. So jard to keep humidity and right temps sometimes.

She is a bit late on flowering but I know BG#41 can take up to 11 weeks. I think she will be allright if she bursts flowers properly in week 4 and 5. Thank you for visiting GG :passitleft:

I will add another fan to cool the canopy. If I observe heat stress, I'll just dim both modules a little bit. Hottest months are august and september here...

I got some great news for you guys. I've finally found a diatomaceous earth manufacturer and got myself a good gal. That is food grade material so I decided to water my plants and then top dress the top perlite layer with it. I won't be watering my plants for the next two days to see how much changes. I got several other measurements and if DE won't solve the problem %100, I will just combine everything to get rid of them. I'll add some extra fans at the bottom of the tent, wash all the medium with H2O2, increase the number of sticky traps, sterilise and mulch all of the medium then start bottom feeding. They are so f*ck*ng persisent that I got obsessed with them and that is why I don't see a bright future for these fungus gnats :rip:

Here is the excessive top dressing. Cheers :passitleft:

Hi guys. Bottom feeding went wrong with the smallest plant because apparently, that plant is a very slow vegger since its a Pink Kush cutting. I am not sure if she has a great root system. She couldn't consume enough water to keep the DE topping dry. Bottom feeding reached to the surface and I have to renew the DE topping on this pot.

Temperature here is around 30 degrees Celsius and the tents are around 31-32 degrees Celsius. Lights are not overheating but the air itself is very hot so that might be the reason for the slow growth of Pink Kush. BG#41 seems to have no problems with the heat and this strain is the second most agressive vegger I've ever seen. Best vegger I've ever seen was Pure Power Plant but I've grown all of these plants in DWC and I know DWC produces bigger plants faster compared to coco. Anyways, if you are after a fast veg. resulting in a big plant, then you should consider growing BG#41.

Humidity levels are still amazing thanks to my dehumidifier. Both tents are in total control and RH is never going above %50. I've been living in this city for three years and never grown with RH below %60 on flowering. I usually have too much trouble drying the harvest but not this time. I don't have the chance to install an AC in that room so I am keeping my lights as far as possible from the canopy and trying to fit more fans inside the tents. I am constantly trimming my veg. tent and I will trim my bloom tent for the last time today. I'll share how the BG#41 looks after the extreme haircut.

Here is the veg. tent. As you can see the top layer on the small pot is wet. Do not over-bottom-feed. Cheers :passitleft:

Hi guys. BG41 had a haircut. I stripped almost every weak lower part and lots of big fan leaves. Plant is literally seeing light. I can't fed this one from bottom so I fed her from the top as usual but after that I maxed the perlite topping to have a dry barrier. I'll top the whole thing with DE if the gnats keep coming back. I also added Exhale CO2 bags to the flowering tent. We'll see how that affects the yield. I got more than enough PPFD, hence the CO2.

Here is BG41. Cheers :passitleft:

Hey guys. I am back with some weird stuff on BG41. As I said, I've fed the plant from the top layer for the first time yesterday. Top DE layer washed into the medium and at first, I thought that might cause some pH problems or stuff because 4-5 hours after feeding, leaves curled up like crazy. I haven't seen anything like that until I made a search inside the forum and found Smoking Moose's :rip: post.Some leaves were curled up even more than this so I cut down on the nutes just a little bit today. I'm quoting that post because I think this is interesting information;

Re: Leaves curling up... but is it Mg defeciency? Input needed.

It's a bit easier to see with a bigger image. As I said earlier, this form of upward curling is a sign of very rapid growth on a healthy plant. It is obvious the plant is relishing the nutrients you are currently giving - this is a sign that less is more. If you kept adding ferts or dickered around, the leaf rims would show yellowing, which is the indicator of fert burn.
You are lucky to have a plant so healthy. Don't fret ok.

Leaves are back to normal today so I missed the chance to document these. Since SM said that this type of curling indicates a rapid grow on a healthy plant, I am guessing that my plant reacted to heavy trimming this way. I see noticable difference between yesterday and today.

Here is how she looks now. Cheers :passitleft:

No, it is not like cat litter at all.
"Diatomaceous earth, diatomite or kieselgur/kieselguhr is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. It has a particle size ranging from less than 3 μm to more than 1 mm, but typically 10 to 200 μm. Wikipedia"

Another source but from an academic university website, "
What is diatomaceous earth?
Diatomaceous earth is made from the fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms. Their skeletons are made of a natural substance called silica. Over a long period of time, diatoms accumulated in the sediment of rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans."

This comes in a very fine powder already and you should DEFINITELY be wearing a mask when doing this. You can buy food grade DE or you can get some at feed stores where farmers will use it for the storage of their various grain feeds. They mix it with their feed to keep it clean from insects. Perfectly safe for animals to ingest it when prepare in this way. That is the cheapest option. I buy 25 lb bags at a time and it is cheap! I spread it around my entire garden. Works great but it breaks down quickly with water or mist so reapplication is needed when you see it has been rinsed away.

Hey BA :passitleft: I'd like to poke you because I have been using the DE for a while and can't be more happy. Did you observe any problems on your plants after rinsing the top layer?

Hey TC. I have only needed to use DE a couple times so far this season. No aphids in sight and I have not seen any mites. There have been a lot of other pesky flies and those annoying hopping insects. Not many though! The DE does wonders for making it an unsuitable environment and continues to keep it unsuitable. Unfortunately, it is ineffective against cabbage loopers & moths. I was able to get the powder residue off only if I sprayed the leaves aggressively. I decided to just leave it on there. I was reading on a generic gardening forum where people in desert climates use DE in a foliar spray with other essentials like aloe vera gel, molasses, and a good surfactant (yucca extract) and it creates a sunscreen for the plants but still allows enough light. I tried it and it has not negatively affected my tomatoes or any of the ladies where I purposely left a layer of the DE on there. It will be in my gardening arsenal moving forward for sure. I also think it helped with powdery mildew issues on my squash btw. As soon as I washed it all off, we had a few overcast days and almost every leave was immediately covered in powdery mildew.

Thx for sharing your experience BA :passitleft: DE is a very effective way of fighting contaminations and I am glad that you advised it. It must dry mycelium out but spores are everywhere. I think you might need additional methods to get rid of PM totally. Is the squash growing outdoors?

I am back with some update. I got my third tent yesterday and moved the Pink Kush clone to test the conditions. Tent is 2x1.5x2 which is very short and manufactured as a propogation tent. I am using a small inline fan as exhaust fan and that is more than enough to keep the heat in acceptable region. I am using Viparspectra R300 on that tent but it is really providing more light and heat than needed. I will build a 150W dimmable full spectrum quantum board for this tent. I got my 300W and 150W prototypes ready with full spectrum Samsungs and Osram 660nm boost. I will be demonstrating their performances in following couple of months. So far, my own fixture is performing way better. I will post side by side nug photos as we proceed.

I am planning to use this tent for propogation, as well as some short mothers from Gorilla Zkittlez and Purple Punch in a few weeks. I will try to keep two mothers and lots of clones inside this tent so this will make another journal on itself. I'll be sharing the news from that tent here until I start a dedicated journal for that.

Here it is;

Some supercropped branches on BG41 are recovered but some look damaged. I supported these a little and I'm expecting them to recover in one or two days.

Cheers :passitleft:
