Skybound's Journal

I finally got to the Pineapple Chunk read for bloom. The roots look good, just the right amount of root bound. It's a short plant. very wide and the trunk is already the diameter of all the other trunks at harvest, so I suspect this might be a good first run. Her distant cousin Triple Cheese is turning out well and the odor and flavor is soooo sweet, it's not even funny. 65ppm of sulfur FYI.

Geez I thought you would have been half way through bloom with those P Chunks by now. Looking great though :thumb:

Yeah, it's in there now for a week, but I had to wait till the Cheese before finished up as I only do one plant per light in bloom. Another 7-8 weeks and the first PC will be hung. I hope she buds as well as the Cheese, but I also would like to see thicker branches.

The cheese looks great and very chunky. P Chunk has more of a thin vine like structure in my experience. But when grown from seed, plants tend to be more vigorous and stocky, and a lot less bushy and shrublike than they do after repeated clonings, I’ve found. So yours may be different than what I’ve been dealing with. Hopefully :).

The Cheese grew the same exact way. Round one (from seed) was a medium height, robust plant with avg branch thickness and fat ass colas, but every clone thereafter seems to be taller, more donkey dicks, but super thin branching. I already lost about a dried ounce from heavy weights on the end of thin branches. I had to climb in and add duct tape strips to virtually every side branch in hopes on diverting all of the weight in to the thicker branches and preserving a good chop in a week or two. I kept a Cheese clone to keep the strain alive till after I see what PC can do, then will later decide to alternate or go strictly with PC. Have you been able to get any pineapple flavor in your smoke? I have little doubt that if that flavor is in the strain that my elevated sulfur levels will bring those good flavors out. This cheese is without doubt the best tasting bud I've ever smoked, but that is due to the high sulfur. The smoke tastes of a mix of cheese cake with minor notes of musk. It's good shit for sure.

I remember in your journal a couple years back you had a mystery plant that you said smelled like straight up pineapple, or at least it did for a while. My P Chunk has never been like that. It’s always been a real stretch to find pineapple there, but the times it does smell that way it’s like a very overripe one- a strong sickly sweet smell. You might have better results.
Lately I’ve been rendering down my stash and making hash out of different strains and it’s been interesting to see what % yield I get. The PC is way highest with a 22% yield.

Might I recommend pipe cleaners? They’re way easier to work with imo. Totally reusable and adjustable. You don’t need to tie knots- a simple kink of 180°-ish is enough, and as long as you don’t overdue the kink you can usually remove them with a simple tug when you’re done

Next time you see some do yourself a favour and grab a bag or two. I think you’ll be glad you did.
Late in the game I also discovered yet another use for them. Cleaning my pipe. No, it didnt occur to me for years... o_O

I'll try pipe cleaners, I just hope I can find them in a decent length. Maybe even electrical wire? The tape is messy, but it works and doesn't slide around. I just taped PC #2 still in veg, preemptively. I was thinking zip ties and maybe design a printable joining piece so to hold 2 or more zip ties from the same point? I'll end up trying several things more than likely.

They sell them at the dollar store type places that sell piles of random cheap crap from China. Got any of those in the US? :p Pipe cleaners are around 14” long I’m guessing. When I need longer ties I just twist the ends together to join multiple pipe cleaners. If I had the energy I’d dig up pics of plants that are basically bud mobiles- supported by many dozens of pipe cleaners.

Triple Cheese, day 53, just started flush. I pushed her to a mild P toxicity which had a good side effect, lol.

Pineapple Chunk day 14. Nice thick side branching, though she grows slow. I hope she stacks up like the TC above.

She going to reach another 4-5 inch??????????? But she looks like she'll fill in'''... GL Keepem Green

Funny you said that Woody, she filled in and stood a little higher yesterday. There's still about 14-18 inches till the lights so there's more to go. Stems are even thicker now. All looks well!

You go sky! I'm still loving PC every day. She's beautiful.

Thanks for the reps stoneotter! My PC isn't stacking up like her cousin Cheese, but her branches look so sturdy and thick up top and there are many many bud sites. I hope she yields as good as the Triple Cheese. My recent chop is hanging up now and I should be able to get preliminary weights in a couple days, but I'm very confident that there's more than a pound. My guess is 18 ounces which would be fantastic for the light I'm using and the overall wattage drawn. I finally got the other PC into Bloom C, so A and C are PC and B is still Triple Cheese.

I was also able to find the threshold of Phosphorus. The TC I just chopped was stacked very well, fat as I don't know what and there's literally only 2-3 small branches with whispy budlets, but all of the rest is rock fucking solid bud. That I believe was due to a slight P toxicity at 65ppm of P. For her younger sister in Bloom B, I lowered the P ppm down to 60 and she doesn't look to be stacking up as high or filling out as wide. I've applied this lesson to the first PC and will push P at 65ppm from weeks 3-5, then lower the P down to 60 till week 7. I think that will help the PC be all she can be. I aim to have zero discoloration of the leaves and stems. I'm very close to my mark with only minor Ca lockouts. It's really nice being able to control the macros this way. I can focus the feed on high N, or P and K as I see fit. Also, by doubling my sulfur uptake (from GH ranges), my buds smell and taste so sweet that I believe I could compare with an organic harvest.

I like the way you see things TC! I hope to learn more of this.

Dayyum! That big ass Cheese (pic above) gave me over 20 zips, and I lost more than another zip shortly after the stretch when one of those thin branches lost the fight against gravity and snapped one night. I snipped that branch off, let it dry on the floor for a few days, then weighed it and it was just shy of 33g. This cheese was a rare freak of nature b/c all her parents didn't do as well, and her sister 3 weeks behind isn't looking like she'll do as well. Maybe I should keep pushing the Phosphorus at the higher levels throughout mid bloom? FYI, the tote weighs 511g, so 1080-511=569. 569/28=20.3. I'm tickled pink. Not bad for 6 - COBs over a single plant.
