Shottafire Getting All Brix With It - Featuring Doc's Kit!

I have noticed better overall health to MY plants since switching to plastic. Not saying one or the other is better.

My thoughts are mainly for the life inside the pot. The plastics seem to be more uniform and the soil stays damp a little longer which gives me a little bit of a break. In smarties I don't have an extra day it needs to be watered when it needs to be watered. This is just observation by me I will still use them but I am trying out other stuff. The plastics have some advantages, and so do the smarties.

One of the main reasons I use plastic is because I can bleach them between runs if I get PM, rot, gnats, etc. Mind you I've got none of those....except a few weakling spider mites that do no visible damage and maybe some thripes from time to time. But if something got out of hand and I had an outbreak of PM.....I'd be worried the fabric smart pots would transmit the mold spores easier. That could be mitigated by putting empty smarties out under the sulfur burner....but then what would that sulfur do to the roots?

I avoid that with plastic.

Plastic rootmakers.....now that's an intrigueing idea.

Interesting discussion. I have five and 8 gallon "smart pots" that are made of spun plastic bottles. Maybe it will give me a combination of both worlds.

We will know soon enough.

i have yet to use these my self but coming from another site im a member of EVERYONE there uses them with great success, alot of people ive heard/read that you will have the same or greater benefit of root pruning from the airpots vs the smarties.

ive been planning to use them next run myself

Hey shotta and a Happy New Year!!!!! I was wondering then if you did have a PM issue in smarties it makes sense transmissions of mold spores would be easier, but what about 1st run soil from plants that had PM. Could that be an issue for the 2nd run??? I just noticed some PM on my Wild Thai's all in smarts not bad at all but there.

So Doc.......

a) can we re-use soil that has had plants infected in those runs?
b) what would you do with smarts that carried these plants now?

Man now I am tempted to get the plastics and start over and throw the smarts away....

Peace,

Any2

Awesome.........the whole house is stinking of Wild Thai girls and now I am gonna run soiled pots in the washing machine. Wife is really gonna love me lol!!!!!!

Sorry to hijack shotta!

Hey fellas....

What about running soil for another go around with plants that were infected with PM. Root matter in the soil???

Once the brix plants hit that vigorous stage they leave all the others in the dust. In the beginning it seemed to be similar to the others but now its quite obvious once in flower the stalks are much stronger and the plants are a lot bigger. I am using plastic 7 gallon nursery pots now I like the plastic over the smarties now I think.

Approximately how long did your high brix girls take to hit that "vigorous" growth stage bro?

I would say maybe a month or so. in the beginning it all about the roots so don't be worried if the bush doesn't go crazy. when you pull the pots for transplant be prepared to be very pleased almost turned on by the root system you now have created for flowering beasts.

I knkw about the roots bro, trust me! I planted my germd seeds in jiffy pots (lack of solo cups at the time)and within a week they had enough visible roots out the bottom to necessitate a transplant. Theyre now in 1 gal round plastic and doing awesome. I can imagine what the roots are gonna look like after 3 weeks in there :). This being my first "real" grow im real anxious to see some results.
Are you using glr?
