Thx for dropping by TT!!
That is some of the cool things about being a grower is you need to be a bit savvy with botany, chemistry, security, pest control, electrical, plumbing, & hvac.
Pot Grower = Jack of all trades :geek:

Everytime I pull back the curtain on that bloom cab I either say God ----!! or Holy ----!! :)

Those big 'ol stinky girls get me everytime!! It's like walking into a stoners' fantasy surprise party! :grinjoint:

Captain's Log Stardate 12/13/2010

Well I made some adjustments and rearrangements of air control and got the cab dialed in for the Winter! The foxtailing stopped dead in it's tracks so my guess of erratic or cold temps being the cause was spot on.

the lights' exaust is on the thermostat controller and now they hardly ever exaust. The blower will kick on for a minute or two and the cab cools back down to 75. Who would ever think you could run nearly 1000 watts of hid lighting and hardly need to cool it down lol!!:)

The room exaust is the 170 cfm blower i was using as an intake blower. I have it set to run for 10 minutes every hour. The intake is now a simple 4" duct booster set to run for 5 minutes every 25 minutes.

Air control central

The blower at the top is the room exaust. the insulated duct below that is the light exaust line.
Normally there is a 4" duct going from the ac to the cab but it is disconnected for the Winter.
I bet you HVAC guys are diggin my modified window unit huh? ;)

Today I also got to fire up the EZ Cloner! All I can say about this machine so far is that it's blowing my mind!!
I was a diy aero cloner guy before and I thought my machines were pretty kick ass but this bad boy is a cut above!!
The manifold really sets it apart. DIY pvc jobs and even the Botanicare manifolds dont compare. Even if they're equipped with the same ez clone sprayers. Check out a diy compared to a real ez cloner in person and you'll see what I mean.
The shell is also super sweet! Sturdy, light weight, and leak proof. The hi quality plastic is a much better material over storage tubs too. Most diy tubs I've had to replace after only a few cycles but the hi quality ez clone shell should last a lifetime.

The 30 site model takes 6 gallons of cloning solution. I'm using Clonex solution and VitaGrow dip

IMG_10695.JPG

In this case the measurments for six gallons of solution takes 100 mils of Clonex. Or according to my handy dandy Big Shot measuring shot from NGW, about half way between Buzzed & I Love You Man

Check out how when the air ring is going the inner area of the manifold recieves no agitation.

The new yet old home for Mothers. This tent is about 5 years old and was my first grow tent. Now it only holds mamas. It's incredible how big this has all become!
I remember trying to get hauls with this thing using only a 150 hps.
Now it's pimped out with T5s

Bandit, you always find new ways to make me envious of you.

Awesome set up!! :bravo:

Thanks Buddy!! I'm just an over indulgent stoner who's very lucky to have a wife that let me turn a room of the house into a pot farm :)

I also have a correction to my post above about the Clonex... Six gallons actually calls for 240 mils of Clonex to six gallons of water. IDK where I got 100...Major stoner moment!

Speaking of envy, Dude I envy that freakin' Godbud!! I could'nt get it so I grew some Grapegod instead. Here they are mixed with some OG Kush!!

Buds as fat as the lights that grow them ;)

Wow man. Those are beautiful! And I can't wait for my God Bud to flower. She's only 20 days from sprout right now, but looking extremely healthy. The one thing I always remember about that bud is the smell. Still holds the title for most pungent in my book.

lol yeah this Grapegod has a very pungent odor that closely resembles Juicy Fruit gum. It also has a nice rich sweet flavor to it. The high is very, very stoney. Good mind trip! :)

The Kush is special. The odor is like roadkill skunk. The smoke is smooth but pungent and strong. Sometimes the pungency can give me that nasal burning feeling that happens when I eat wasabi or Chinese mustard loaded with wasabi.
The high is a classic feelin' groovy electric high. Reminds me of the goofy highs i had when I first started smoking. Old school euphoria!!
:rollit:

I'm in the process of doing an electrical consumption audit on my operation. The new Kill A Watt meter is providing some very interesting results...

my biggest savings will come from the redistribution of light for veg.
Previously this was done with a 250 mh with an 80 watt blower for a total of 330 watts. It was running 24/7 365.

Now the veg is done with T5s for a total of about 400 watts but the lights are divided up so they dont all have to run at the same time.
The mama tent is the tent that will be running 24/7 365. The tent total power draw is only 155 watts and it gives me more room for the mamas than the veg cab. This is an outstanding transition because not only did i cut the power draw for mamas in half but i gained more room for them. Double bonus!!!

The cloning station is also very conservative on power. The EZ Cloner draws a total of 39 watts and the T5 light draws only 48 watts by running only two of the four tubes in the 2' four tube T5HO light.
The cloning station only needs to run for 10 days every 8 weeks.
The operating cost of the cloning station will be barely noticable. In fact the biggest expense for cloning is the solution & dip which is bought twice a year for $30

Next is the main veg cab which takes a total of 200 watts and will also only need to run for about 10 days every 8 weeks. Again the expense of this station will be barely noticable on the utility bill!

I've began to examine the bloom cab but there's not too much wiggle room to power down. I actually may increase the power, I still dont know yet.
I'm mostly working on the air control to use as less power as possible.

I'm also debating on moving away from the leds and swapping them for another 4' two tube T5HO.
After testing my 50 watt & 90 watt UFOs I came up with some discouraging numbers... The 50 watt is actaully only pulling 36 watts and the 90 watt UFO is actually only 68 watts. These lights have built in fans too so I'm guessing that they really only produce a combined 90 watts of usable light.
These numbers totally explain why the UFO footprint is barely a single square foot coverage on their own.

Now I'm going back and forth on continue using the two UFOs on a mover or pull them in favor of another T5.
I really like what the UFO spectrum brings to the table. They seem to bring out the trichs at a prolific rate but I'm seeing similar results with the T5 in the cab.
If I change to a T5 the power draw will actually be about the same pull as the UFOs. Maybe an increase of only 20 watts
The bigger increase in power could come from adding another or replacing the UFOs with a more powerful led like say a GLH Spectra 120 on the mover :smokin:

Hopefully I'll have the plan in effect by the time the next round of clones goes to bloom

Bandit, are you flowering with t5s? I have a mother tent that I'm thinking of converting over to a perpetual sog. I think I can force 3 4bulb 2' t5 fixtures in there... but I'd have to relamp from the 6500ks.

Are there better flowering brands than others?

Thanks,

:peace:

High HB!!
Yes I do have a 4' 2 tube T5 light in the bloom cab as a supplement light down the length of the garden. A few hours ago I was lucky enough to score another one of the same lights at a huge discount because it was a store display light and it will be added to the cab tonight.

Today has been a big day for lighting in the bloom cab. I installed the MelonHeads and they are so big they eliminate the need for the mover. I also pulled the leds and their movers to install the new T5 in their place.

Now the lighting will be two 430s in the MelonHeads with a 2 tube 4' long T5HO on each side of the MelonHeads. This massive array of lighting measures 4' long and 3' wide with a total combined wattage of 1076 and close to 140,000 lumens.

The Mother keeper tent outfitted with T5s will be used to bloom the mamas at some point in the future and that will be a T5 only bloom.

My preference in T5 tubes has always been PlantMax. I dont know why but my plants always do really good under PlantMax. Hydrofarm also make some good T5 tubes but you have to be sure to buy the hi lumen tubes. They make 2' tubes that are either 800 or 2000 lumens so you want to make sure to get the 2ks.
I also want to try a couple of the Quantum T5 tubes to not only see if they'll work in my regular T5HO fixture but also if they really produce a better plant/buds

Wow, look at all that trim leaf for making hash! :tokin:

Sorry! I mean...I mean... My what lovely buds you have Bandit. Those MelonHeads are big too! :blunt:

lol!! wait 'till you see what we have cooking up for some holiday smoke Brother Two Tokes!!

If all goes well this project will start tommorow...
Bubble hash made from the following strains...White Widow, Yumbolt 47, Grapegod, OG Kush, LA Woman, RoadRunner, & Haze.
Once the hash is ready to smoke it will be chopped & rolled into joints filled with ground buds from all of the above strains except for the two autos, RoadRunner & Haze.
That's right my friends! A 7 strain hash blend mixed with 5 strains of ganja in some big 'ol fat doobies!! :tokin:

Merry Christmas!! :xmas:

Hi Brother Bandit, will the two melon Heads fit in a 4x4 room?Your hash recipe sounds great.

HH:tokin:

High HH!
It all depends on how you hung them...
Inline like I have mine wont fit in the 4'x4' but if they were hung side by side it could work. They would either each need their own or the exaust would need to horse shoe around the tent into each reflector.
I would'nt recommend it because they are just so big.
The Yield Masters or something like those types of reflectors may be what you want. I would say Cool Tubes but after seeing how much better this style of reflector is over my cool tubes I cant recommend them any longer. There are several reflectors that offer the same cooling capabilities of cool tubes but they also have better light distribution. Yield Master & DayStar are a couple.
