Good to have you back Butch! I got a front row seat for da show!
Should be a fun grow to watch, nothing like a little variety. Or a lot of variety for that matter.
man i dont know how i missed this one? you have some very very good strains growing, you are very lucky. let me know how that sour D is? i am thinking of growing that on my next grow or either some sour grapes. never grown either of them so dont know how the yield is? but smoke them lots before and their both great.
...Wohoo and were off and running. I'm very much looking forward to this one Butcher! This should clear up a lot of my unsolved mysteries.
Plus my seed choice's made it.
Very nice pics, too.
How do you sprout your seeds Butch?
Is there a plug or a RW cube under the hydroton?
This is going to be a lot fun, and also very helpful as far as selecting future strains.
Sometimes, when you're looking for this kind of info, you don't know if the results or yield were affected by the grower's experience, but that won't be the case here.
Short anwer: Its soil under the hydroton
Detailed answer:
For the sprouting I will post pict's of how I do it. Here are the details first though.
So as just about everyone know my mentor "Oldman" taught me some old-school way of doing things. This is the way I was taught to germ my beans. I first use the paper towel method. Which is the fallowing:
1. Wet a paper towel.
2. Drop the bean into the paper towel and close it up in a zip-lock bag. DO NOT seal it up with all the oxygen out. If you do do so, then it will get the bean to moist and it may not sprout fully. Some do and some don't. Fresh seeds pop right out within a couple days. And I mean all the way out of the beans shell.
3. At this point when the sprout is fully out of its shell I drop it in a fresh mix of soil till the root growth is very apparent. Usually about 4-7 days depending on the strength of the sprout.
4. Once a root system has been established and the second set of leafs are out, then I (((VERY CAREFULLY))) remove the seedling out of the soil*(for how-to on the removal of the sprout I will add the details with picts in my future post) and place it in a neoprene insert, last place it in a mini DWC system for optimal root development.
5. After I have chosen exactly what I want to do with the seedling, thats when it goes into the final resting place.
This sounds like allot of work (and it is), but Oldman taught me it this way and I have yet to lose a sprout using this method. If I was going to use soil then I would just leave it in the soil with clay pebbles as the top layer. This top layer helps keep light away and keeps the bugs down to a minimum. With the lack of light getting to the surface even with a hot room, the soil stays cool. This cool soil keeps the environment from becoming a prime spot for the breeding of bugs, gnat's or what have you.
