Second Outdoor Desert Autoflower In Arizona

Feeling back to normal today.
Yeah!

And no, we didn’t
:(

How do you come up with your ideal number?
As an example, when I transplanted, I went from a 1 gallon to a 7 gallon pot. Once I have all the soil in but before I water, I weigh it. That gives me a base weight. Then I try and water when it’s a couple of pounds or so above that. It’s definitely not an exact science. I keep a log so I can see how often the need for watering is trending. As far accounting for the plant weight as it grows, I kinda just guess. You can definitely tell by lifting that the pot is getting lighter. Right now I’m having to water every other day. I’m a little over 3 weeks into flower and it’s really sucking up the water. I don’t let mine get to the point of wilting.

I am at every 2 days or so now, depending on the weather. Our weather has been a little up and down lately. For example Sat was supposed to be close to 100, but it ended up being overcast and only about 90. Without that intense sun load it didn’t feel too bad out.

I usually don’t let them wilt either, but also didnt want to overwater so I misjudged and thought they would be OK until I got home from work. I’m remembering now that Emilya says she pushes a little more water at them in flower, so maybe I should err on the side of overwatering if I have that circumstance again. Thanks so much for all your help that you give me. I really appreciate it!

Plants are looking good in spite of the issues that Carcass and BigD are helping you with! I didn't know squirrels gave a lick about cannabis plants, but if yours do then definitely protect the plants you move outside the cage. I hated losing half my peaches to squirrels!

I use the lift method to decide when to water, since I lift them every day. When it feels light, I water! In flower I water a day earlier than that. :)

Thank you! :thanks:

They ate everything and anything last summer, including my agaves and an entire prickly pear cactus, I’m not taking any chances LOL. I don’t know if you have ground squirrels there, they’re more rodent like than they are squirrel.

I think that’s gonna be my MO as well from here on out. Thanks!

BB humming right along, loving the sunshine and the “not too bad yet”heat! 66 days old today.
Got my liquid kool bloom and floralicious plus today, going to try adding those in this grow. Already have the armor si, now I’ll be able to do the 6 part feed schedule.

It’s looking much less leafy than my first grow. I think being planted too early, it grew more leaves in the bud than it should have.

@BigD13
You had previously mentioned a temp controller for the fridge, I looked it up and they were talking about hardwiring, and it seemed out of my skill set. Doing some more research now, I see there’s ones you can just plug the fridge into. Just thinking ahead for my next dry, as it’s heating up and I expect more temperature swings in the fridge from night to day. Do you know if the plug-in kind will work OK for my dorm fridge? I just set the fridge thermostat as low as it will go and the controller will turn the fridge off and on as needed?

That’s the kind you want. I have a Poniie TC-15A. I got it on Amazon but it looks like it is no longer available. Another good brand is Inkbird. Looks like they start at around $30 for the standard ones. For a little more money you can get one that works with WiFi. Just search on YouTube for Inkbird temperature controller. Lots of videos about how to use them.

As far as I know it should. I guess you could do a google search to make sure.

I don’t think the fridge thermostat setting is that important because when you use a temperature controller, it controls the temp by turning it on and off. I usually plug mine in about a week before I need to use. That gives me plenty of time to adjust it to the temperature I want & make sure it’s working correctly.

I also bought a Govee Bluetooth hygrometer thermometer unit. You download an app to your phone to use it. It has the ability to store data so you can see the current as well as daily, weekly and monthly temp and humidity in line graph form. Kinda like a trend analysis. It shows the high, low and average temps and humidity.

Can you explain what you mean about planting early? I was under the impression that the leaf to calyx ratio was genetic.
That was just my thought on why it did that. It didn’t look like everyone else’s cannabis plants so I just assumed it was from the colder than optimal temps during the grow. I guess we all know what happens when you assume, right? ;)
I gave the other 2 seeds of that strain to my friend, so will see what those look like if she ever gets around to getting everything set up. She will be growing indoors I believe.
That’s the kind you want.
Great! Thanks! When you first mentioned it I did a quick search, and thought that it required rewiring. They were talking about removing the thermostat and installing the controller instead. You were probably wondering why I was saying that was out of my comfort zone LOL.

So my last batch is ready to start curing now after 3 weeks. I’ve been curious as to how much I ended up with so I weighed everything. I tared the weight of an empty jar, lid and hygrometer to get the weight of my already curing batches. It all added up to 55 grams, not including some larf I saved for edibles or lotion. I’m really happy with that, especially for my first grow in 25 years!

I also finally received my 50% white shade cloth yesterday. After much research I settled on white as the best color to reduce heat load (besides aluminet, which was wayyyy more $$$). Going to put that up over the enclosed garden where my photos will be this summer, along with some peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and okra. I’ll have an update on the plants in a little bit after I finish my coffee. :nomo:

Yay

Wednesday update:
High today, 95° F, currently 92° F , Sunny, 10% humidity. Or for @Mdlroad 27.6° F dewpoint.

Blood Bananas still showing a few leaves with deficiencies but it doesn’t seem to be progressing much so hopefully it will continue to improve with CalMag.

Pebbles Pranks has no new deficient leaves and is starting to bud as well.

It is starting to reach the top of the box so if it grows any taller I will have to tie down some branches.

Runty hanging in there, starting to show pistols.

Durban Poison and Tangerine Dream in 1 gal pots are doing well. DP is getting GH flora trio and TD the sample Simply Professional veg powder. If you look really close on the middle of the DP there is a green lacewing and some other kind of bug. Don’t know what the other is but he was just sitting there, NOT eating my plant, so hopefully it’s a predator too!

The Champagne Kush is not doing well at all. I thought it looked overwatered, even tho I had not watered since transplant so yesterday I pulled the inner pot out so it could get more air and it was worse when I got home. My gut says overwater but it looked worse after a long hot day so IDK. Ok, so even tho the soil feels damp I thought maybe there is a dry spot inside, so I watered it. We’ll see if it perks up with water or gets worse. Or maybe it doesn’t like the Biolive mixed into the soil? The new little sprouts coming up where I topped it still look ok but the fan leaves are wilting and turning yellow.

Does the pot feel heavy or light?
It felt heavier than the other 2. They have all been getting the same watering schedule tho so not sure what’s going on. They all felt light and looked ok when I watered on 5/1.
Hopefully the new shade cloth will give it a chance to recover without added sun stress. I put up the “50%, white” shade cloth that was actually tan and seems more like 70%. That’s what I get for being cheap and ordering from Amazon. I would return it but it’s been a fiasco with this order, the first one that was supposedly delivered I never received. And they had to re-ship it to me so I hate to return it. I have other places I can use it so I just went ahead and ordered another one from an actual shade cloth store. The sun here is pretty strong but I still feel that a 70% would be too much.

Woo you got a lot going on. Looking good except for 1. I really hope your photos make it I'm cheering for em

Saturday update:
High today only 94° F, humidity didn’t check but I’m sure it’s low.

Autos pretty much the same. No new leaf issues. The PP grew up to the top of the box so I had to tie the branches down a little. Forgot to get photos, maybe later. They both got fertilizer today. Week 3 bloom 6 part GH series.

Finished putting up 40% shade over that whole area the other day. It might be a little early for that but I wanted to get it done while it’s not too hot. The autos will get full sun until about 10 or 11am. It also helps shade my potted trees and keeps the area around the chicken coop cooler. I had cemented a couple 8’ poles in the ground a few years ago, and drove some t posts and the other end gets attached to my chicken coop. It looks darker than it actually is under there, because I’m standing in the sun taking the pic. I use agfabric, and some of these are on year 3 and holding up well. Even with a few holes they don’t unravel.

BB buds

Did a second top on the photos today. It always hurts my heart a little to take off healthy new growth, but I know it’s for the best. Not sure if I should top more or let them go after this? The DP and TD are doing great. The CK pretty much bit the dust. I may try transplanting it, I ran out of energy this morning. I may just let it be, I will have my hands full with the other four. They got fertilizer today also. DP week 2 veg GH 6 part, and TD the same jug of Simply Professional I mixed up two days ago.
Is it ok to leave mixed nute water and use again? For just one plant each it would be easier to premix a gallon for each and then use that until gone.
I am doing feed, feed, water on all of these.
I ate two of the tops, and gave the other two to the chickens.
