Sauga's Got Cement Shoes & A Chem Dog

Noooooooooooooooooooo! Auto flowers do not flower when the tap root hits the bottom. Old wives tale. Not fact. I've seen rootbound autos in solo cups not flowering.
Noooooooooo, I said the sides. Something to do with the roots circling, yee haw. But I still think it's an old wives tale!

If that were the case an Auto planted outside in the ground would never flower because there are no sides of the container in the earth.

When they circle halfway around they will meet each other though, so there's that.

Or I guess when they reach an ocean. Then you got those evil salts to deal with...hehehe.

Totally agree with @InTheShed and @MrSauga on this one!
:high-five:

I still start my autos in solo cups. I always look over the rootball at transplant. Many, many times, I've seen circling roots at the bottom without flowering.

Autos are a fickle nemesis. Sassy beeotches kinda just do whatever TF they want...

Thanks everyone :thumb: autos are like a box of chocolates you never know when they will flower lol. They are "fun" tho and so far easy as well. I have just planted and ph watered them and some lst. I just started giving the big one nutes to help in flower. I see people on here and other places top and mainline idk how they do it and not induce flowering. I just like simplicity of autos :D plant, grow, and harvest.

I gotta say, I personally don’t like autos that much. The only reason I’ve got auto seeds is to throw in one or two when I plan a really long veg period. Then I can get a little harvest without messing around with my photo girls. They are quite simple, but you don’t have the freedom that a photoperiod gives you. You can’t goof around with training or try new things without potentially lowering your yields significantly. I think my biggest issue with autos though is no cloning. Also regular auto seeds aren’t very common. They’re more common nowadays than ever before, but still I’m a big believer in growing regular seed if you can get it.

I'd say other than flipping the timer, photos are easier than autos. You can train any way you like (or not), and you get to decide how big they're going to be, not some beyond-your-control built-in clock! Like Chef said, if you have a corner of your veg tent to fill with a pot during a long veg, stick an auto there. Otherwise I don't see a reason to chance it.

This does not apply to growers of consistently huge autos ;).

It’s true, there are definitely folks out there growing bigger badder plants with autos than I’ve done with photos.

I concur! New growers should start with photos imho. If you run into issues you can always veg longer until things are back on track. Once you master photos, take on autos. And when you master that, you run phautos.

I agree with what you guys are all saying. I got lucky with my first auto - Purple Kush - but the ones I am running now are looking pretty darn sad. But the meter is running on them, so no time to let them get in better shape. They'll be done when they are done - runty as all get out. To be fair, probably wasn't smart of me to try a new medium (hempy) and autos at the same time. Maybe at some point I'll do another auto run back in coco, but for the next bit, I'll go back to photoperiods in coco.

Me too! I thought I was doing fine with my first three and thought I was all dialed in. Then it was a series of stunted ones I pulled and the first spog® and I wondered where I had gone wrong. Then I realized it was the stupid autoflower plants, which have particular trouble outside. Now I hardly grow them at all.

Yup. Good news/bad news is that I have quite a few auto seeds that I would like to try, but I think I will hold off for a few grows before I try them.

BTW... I have seen "spog(R)" mentioned a few times - what does that mean?

Single Point Of Green. It's an autoflower that flowers early with no side branching. I made up the name when I got my first one.

Not a sog nor a scrog,
What I have is a spog.
A spog is not two, never three, never four.
A spog is just one and can't be any more.
Just one point of green like a lonely old frog.
Just one single cola, my frosty-triched spog.

Love it! I knew there had to be a story behind the term. Your little poem is like Dr. Seuss decided to try growing. :)

Thanks to you and @MrSauga for 'splaining.

Day 8 Update

Hey everybody!
So, the POG and the RG both failed and I dropped a Gorilla Cookies and a White Tahoe Cookies. 2 seeds fell under the deck which left me 2 of the WTC. The WTC emerged with her helmet on. I removed it gently with a few droplets of water but the cotys were brown which wasn't a good sign. They never did open after a day and that was enough wasting time on them. I've dropped another seed of the WTC and hopefully this one will take.

The GC seed has done well and has been outside for most of the day today. So the day 8 update is really for the CD #4 and the Cement Shoes. The cotys on the CD are starting to yellow so she'll be looking for some food soon.
