Sauga's First WW Indoor Grow, LED Style

you know it, looking forward to the Piney Express autos...
I got one of them beans aswell! I highly reccomend the mama mia though for ease of growth. Not smoked any yet but shes just got past that stage after chop where it smells fresh and the danks starting to come out!

OOoOooOo. Big changes eh? Suspense! Happy Canada day as well buddy :)

Happy Canada Day! And a good day for die hard Leaf fans... John Tavares coming aboard. He's only coming since Canada changed the Mary Jane laws. He's be heading elsewhere for sure.

I saw that! Makes me happy. Haha you may be right about the laws lol.

Somebody stop me
I wish I could change my Thread title since it really doesn't describe my grow anymore.

Do you ever get those days where you think your tent isn't quite what you what you expected it to be? It's been like that since the day I got mine. I always felt there was something better I could have done, or changed. Such as lighting. I have a 4x4x6.5 tent and have a 600w mh/hps setup with 6" hood. I was able to control the heat and humidity after a few days of playing around with things and have been happy with the progress. I still whack my head everyday on the hood and all my wife says is 'idiot'.

So I got tired of being an idiot and purchased an LED setup. I'm not going to say who manufactured it as there's lots of heresay, good or bad, on what to buy or use. I wanted to go in with an open mind and do understand LED technology has come a little ways over the last couple of years.
Having said that, I ended up with a 1000W LED with double chip tech. Extremely bright and one is recommended for a 4x4, but I know one is never enough, so I got two. They have a 3 year warranty, 30 day mbg, and have great customer service.

Having said that, we know their are no "good" cheap LED's available. You pay for what you get and buyer beware. You can do as much research as you want, and listen to as many people as you like, but sometimes you need to learn by a hands on feel. The next two images show what these lights are capable of doing, hence the reason I went for two units. I felt for the 4x4 the PAR was not as high as I have seen on higher end units at 24", and the spectrum of colors was slightly lower if at all. Some had two spikes in the red and blue range and others didn't.

SO I switched to LED for two reasons. Not doing my homework properly I bought the HPS setup. I find in a 4x4 it's always in the way. Sure I can hang it higher but I'm not in there long enough, just long enough to bang my head and burn my scalp. The second reason is piece of mind. Although things can go wrong with LED's, there's less things that can go wrong. If I did more homework on my LED's and tent sizing prior I probably would have made a better choice.

I phased in the new LED's with the MH for about three days and the girls have responded well. The pics below are with lights off as it's hard to get shots with the lights on. I really value everyone's opinion and hope to get some valuable advice or criticism.

In a nutshell, Sauga's First WW Outdoor grow with MH/HPS is now Sauga's First WW Outdoor/Indoor MH/HPS LED Journal.

Welcome everyone!

Glad I'm here. I'm a led junky. Love my QBs

I really notice a difference in the plants in one full day of LED solo. I'm so glad I made the move... so far. These girls have been through hell so I hope they forgive me and still return their bounty in the end. :yummy:

I also love my LEDs. In my opinion theres SO many advantages to LED. The only real way to tell if the setup is working is by doing a run and letting the buds speak for themselves. I think youll be fine. My problem is I love LED a little to much and keep buying them haha. Ill need more tents soon!!

OK, quick update. A quick shout out to the nice admin folks who got my thread title changed to what is really happening in this journal now. Thanks folks!

A few pics. Nice steady growth. Plants look healthy and bushy. they don't want to spread out too much. I think that's good right?? I call them my Go Go Girls since they seem to like the new lights and just keep going, or growing, but Grow Grow Girls didn't sound right.

The newest additions are doing their magic as well. Once I net down they'll be a little behind, but in the end all the same height hopefully.

And where the girls live. Looks real cozy tbh.

That's two of the 1000 LED's lighting 'em up.

Peace out gang!

This post is information for my Journal regarding pH. Easy place for me to find it.

ph Basics
pH lower than 7 is an acidic soil.
pH higher than 7 is an alkaline soil.

Nutrients available based on soil pH levels
Alkaline soil: limited availability of iron, zinc, and phosphorous.
Acidic Soil: limited availability of magnesium and calcium

Organic matter will also alter the pH level, such as compost. The higher the organic matter the more lime or suplhur is required to adjust pH by one point.
What I learned today is when I increase organic matter I'm actually increasing my plant's tolerance for acidic or alkaline conditions and not really changing the soil pH. Fascinating. :hmmm:

Lowering pH
Adding nitrogen into the soil can lower pH a half point from 7 to 6.5. Compost, alfalfa meal and manure are higher in nitrogen and can also help drop pH by increasing bacteria over time.

As some of you know I have been using coffee grounds mixed in with my water, but apparently most of the organic acids in coffee flush out in the brew. Coffee grounds are close to neutral, about 6.8, therefore will not do much to lower pH. However, they do contain small amounts of nitrogen so it can help reduce pH over time.
Still in the coffee mode, to drop the soil pH quickly, leftover coffee diluted 50/50 with water works well as I have learned.

Raising pH
A common soil amendment for raising soil pH is dolomite lime, except it should not be used in soils with adequate or excess magnesium. If your magnesium is high then alternatives such as ground oyster shells, crushed eggshells, both applied at 1 to 2 lbs per 100 sq ft. will work.

Balanced Organic NPK Fertilizers
Worm Castings:
Quick-release nutrients for early growth; slowly releases nutrients to maintain growth through the season. Provide beneficial bacteria to help your plants absorb these nutrients.

Alfalfa Meal:
Provides a steady release of NPK, and some sulfur during growth, with most of it available during peak growth. Another benefit is that it doesn’t attract animals.

Summary
So, for me I learned alot about pH. My plants are very healthy but my readings show over 7 which is high. I'm thinking at one point the girls may not like it, so I'm gonna try the slow route and pick up some alfalfa meal and will report the results later. I think most of my pH problems I will ever encounter are easily adjusted, since I use soil in my grow. I was looking at purchasing the standard pH Up/Down but think I can get back to good readings organically.

They definitely do look nice and cozy in their digs! Well done. Thats a helpful post above. Its good to have that info handy. Grow Grow Girls doesnt sound right, haha I agree. Stick with go go girls. They look nice and happy! Keep it green.
