Sauga's First WW Indoor Grow, LED Style

OK, so we got the tent up. Lights should be here tomorrow. It's 4x4 and a tight fit but the tent zips all the way around so I can access behind it, There's storage space behind the tent which is helpful.

Should have it all going by the weekend. Planning ahead now, and I haven't read too much about it except for a post @Derbybud made today, but is a portable humidifier a handy thing to have?

How are you going to get air in and out of the closet?

Ahhh, it's not actually a closet, it's a roughed in third bathroom. Not sealed at all, so getting air in is fine, plus the door is open all times unless I have family come over. The exhaust goes into the garage through a carbon filter. Since no cars or engines run in the garage I don't have to worry about carbon monoxide coming back in. Should be OK but it's all testing. I'll know more how it works when I do a test run.

Good morning weeders,
OK so last night the girls went inside to their new home. They love it btw. So a couple of questions I'm going to throw out there.
I'm running the lights (600W) at 100% and can maintain 85 degrees and 40% humidity. I'm working on getting humidity up. Can I run the lights at 75% and drop them closer to the plants. Right now I think the lights are high (see above pics without plants). Or should I always run at 100% no matter what while in veg state?

Second, I had two new girls sprout up the other day and they are about 1.5 inches in height. Can they go into the tent under the same lights or is that too much for them? How far should they stay from the lights?

Everyone have a great weekend and thanks.

Wow what a weekend. Lots of hands on learning with the new indoor grow. I'm starting to finally get hold of some consistent temps during lights on. I found the circulating fan is key in keeping the temps low and humidity at a normal/high level. My first fan didn't oscillate but it kept the temps around 80 and humidity around 50%. I switched to an oscillating fan but it had 10" fan and on a pedestal. Couldn't rig up a proper hangar and it ended up sitting on the floor. The temps went up to 85 and humidity dropped to 32-35%, and I'm sure I would have caused some sort of wind burn if I kept it up. In the meantime I put the non-oscillating one back and I have a new one on order that I think will work well in the tent. At least the temps have come down a bit. The first night, Saturday, my one girl got a little heat stress. The lights were at 18" and although my hand didn't burn under it I suspect it had to do with poor circulation. The lights are now at 20" and that seemed to do the trick.

The girls went for a makeover as well over the weekend and they got rid of those 4th and 5th nodes. A nice little nip and tuck underneath and they look sexy. I Just started to train the 3rd node to bend over and let the new shoots take off.
I'll get some pics up later this week for some input.

It was a good weekend!

Hi all,
since I went indoors the girls are starting to develop some tiny brown spots. The leaves seem a little puffy if that makes sense. They have been like that for a few days. Last night for the fist time they got some nutes, AN's Micro Veg and mixed 1 ml of the formulas into 1L and fed that 1L into the girls.

I'm not sure if it's lack of water or not enough nutes. I looked at the various images on diseases and couldn't quite nail it down. Lots of breeze under the lights so I don't think it's heat stress. It may be hard to see in the pics and maybe it's nothing but they just don't look like they did outside.

So you are feeding them nutrients and they are in soil....and they hardly have 3x sets of leaves...might be too much too soon...

I'm not sure if it's lack of water

Almost never the case...severe lack of water will just cause the leaves to droop and once they get water they pop within 2-3 hours. The reverse is almost always true...too much water causing lot of issues. In those pots you won't need to water more than 2x a week for another month until their roots get established and they really start drinking.

Things to consider....plants just moved from one environment to another...diff temps, light source, and maybe you have a fan blasting on them now (don't, use one indirectly).

I forget the soil you used and I don't know about nutrient feeding, but I would suggest cutting the amount by at least half for a week or two and see what happens.

:goodluck:

Hi Blew,
actually I had 5 nodes, topped to the third. They have only been fed once, and that was one liter of water. 90% of that went to one girl only. That was the ugly girl that has struggled since the beginning. They are in a mix of cow manure, perlite, promix and some dolomite, worm castings. I only water about twice a week as you said. They are not taking much and pics definately show the pots don't look overwatered. Underneath may be different as my meters tell me I'm in a low to med range in moisture down deep, which seems to be workin well for them. The other girl didn't need the nutes but she got the dreads from the leftovers. She's been growing strong and faster in the same medium.

I have two fans in there now, and after a few days of playing around neither blow direct on the plants, and the temps are low eighties. The one fan wasn't enough, so I ended up with a tower fan that oscillates and has 8 settings. Works well.

mr.Sauga I also grow in soil and mix was soil/compost/cow manure I didn't have those additives you've put in.. The nutes you are using I don't know cause I'm South African and we don't have them. But it's to early for nutes reason being you have lots at your disposal that's natural you can use... EWC active aerated tea, they would appreciate it more. But still way to early to be feeding at all, I let my girls go 6 weeks befor I watered, I only misted the soil around the stem.

Also your girls look extremely healthy to me part from the spots but that is burn from your rich soil mix hence your girls are looking so healthy... I would only spray those that are young, the rest water only in increments for instance a 100/200ml at a time because soil holds an incredible amount of moisture ...

Everything I've mentioned is what everyone on hear taught me and by the looks of your girls you doing it right... There's a saying that gets mentioned to me a lot...lol.
KISS- keep it simple silly.

Hiya Smee, I have a lot of respect for you, so thanks for your input. After reading your post I kinda took a step back and went through some of my posts, mostly this journal, to see what I have learned and overlooked.
I lost my patience and the ability to listen to my girls. I feel I have to intervene with them and that's inexperience. This being my first grow I don't know what to look for, what to expect, and of course what to do when things go awry.
It's time to get back to the basics, as you said, KISS, and let the girls take over. So, off with the nutes, on with the mist and we'll see how we go from here.
Once again, thanks!

Things are looking great in here dude! I like the name haha .. I’m about 10 min from you. It’s funny how our growing spaces evolve. I just upgraded to a 4x4 myself. I’ll hang around for the journey if you don’t mind!! Happy growing

All the years I use this name and you're only the second person to pick up on it. The last one also lived close by. It's a local thang I guess. Listen, thanks for jumping in. I've lurked some of your posts and I'm glad to have you here. Thanks Budz..
