Hi all,
This was suppose to be a smooth switch from 1st grow to 2nd grow, but things in life do not always go as planned. 2nd Week of 12/12 completed and I started the salvage operation yesterday. Still have a long way to go.
WHAT STRAIN WAS IT WHEN I FLIPPED?
1- Mango (Hybrid).... Parents = Mango (Indica) +KC33 (Hybrid)
3- Power Wreck (Hybrid).... Parents = Power Plant + Train Wreck
1- Betty..... Parents Unknown .... Received this plant from a neighbor and it was actually suppose to be part of my 3rd grow.
WHAT WAS ADDED AND WHAT WAS BEYOND SALVAGING?
1- Mango...... It just was beyond help and I felt it was kinder to put her out of her misery.
1- Harlequin.... donated to the cause by "Wifeygrower"
In the Veg tent =
At the moment, nothing but a terrible mess. Today is veg tent salvage day one, clean out and wash completely. Get everything ready for grow #3 which I will be starting from seed and possibly a few clones.
Plants are from clones I bought from a local dispensary except the Betty which was a clone from a friends mother. He gave me 3, I kept 1 for myself and gave 2 to my brother who is also growing. The Harlequin is a clone from the Harlequin my brother had bought.
Flowering plants are exactly 14 days since flipping 12/12
Vegging plants are all dead, though I will be replacing them shortly once I am able to get the salvage underway a bit further.
Indoors or outdoors?
Indoors. Flowering in 5x10x6.5 tent Veg in 4x4x6.5 tent.
Size and type of Light?
Flowering with 2 non-sponsor LED's and 1 sponsored LED-- 1 was a freebie from my neighbor (used) 357 watts and 1 325 watt (New) the sponsored LED is a Mars-Hydro II 900
Vegging with 1 4 foot T-5 HO 8 lamp fixture running 8 blue spectrum lamps. Which is presently off until it is needed again.
Temp of the tents?
Flowering tent = degrees
Veg tent = degrees
I do not have accurate temperatures as of yet, I have not been checking or reseting tent Temps/RH% but will start today.
Present outside temp is 30 degrees F.
RH?
Flowering tent = %
Veg tent = %
Same as Temp, will be starting to record them today.
Any pests?
None that I am presently aware of. Was going to mention that the wife "SWMBO" can be a pest sometimes but I am pretty sure that is not the type of pest this question is asking.
Type of Nutrients and strength?
I am going to be doing something a little different on this grow. I have added Cal/mag to the mix as well as Armor Si a silica for plant growth enhancement. Shout out to Stage for that recommendation. I will also be using FF basic 6
Pot size?
In Flower=
Power Wrecks are in 7 gal. cloth pots while the Harlequin and Betty are in a 5 gal. cloth pot.
In Veg=
none at the moment
Medium =
FF Ocean Forest potting soil.
Ventilation?
Flowering tent = 6x24 Can Carbon filter with a vortex VTX-800 fan controlled by a TMP-DNe controller for exhaust and a 4 inch inline fan for fresh air. For horizontal air flow I have 3 oscillating fans running in the tent. 1 down at floor level, 2 that is at canopy level. I would like to get a few more so I can turn them down and get better flow without whipping the closest plant like it was in gail winds.
Veg tent = 1 fan for horizontal air movement aimed just above canopy and bottom of lights. I keep 2 of the 3 bottom air vents open at all times and also keep top vent holes open for rising heat to escape.
But presently am not running until I start grow #3.
Watering?
This has been an issue up till now on this grow, life has been quiet hectic till now so I was lucky to look in on the girls every 3 sometimes 4 days. When I would look, if I had time, I would water them right away, if I was in a rush I was watering them at the end of the day when I got back home. In all honesty, it is truly amazing that any of these plants survived at all. At least 2 separate times I literally looked and said to myself, crap I killed them all they were that thirsty. They were so limp and droopy I was even amazed that they responded at all. I have only been watering with 1 teaspoon of Cal/mag and 1 teaspoon of Armor Si, 1/2 teaspoon of Open Sesame PH'ed to 6.5
A little back story, then lets begin the salvage.
It had all started the day I planned to flip the girls. I had 2 plants which showed signs of powdery mildew from when they were in the veg tent and from being so over crowded without proper air circulation. I researched a few quick simple solutions and decided to use a baking soda, dish soap wash to kill the spores I only has a few leaves that I could actually see the PM on but I knew that the spores are so small if you do not kill them all it will return. One thing that I was aware of was that the spray should be done right before I turn the lights off for the evening to prevent burning due to the lights being so close over wet leaves. So here is where I made my 1st major mistake, I had to go out to my brothers and was not sure when I would be getting home, so I sprayed them down, quiet heavily by the way before I headed over to my brothers. That was right when the lights turned on. I did not even look into the tent until 2 days maybe 3 days later. Everything was fried. When I first looked it looked like every single leave was burnt, so I basically said screw it and walked away. Over the next couple of weeks I would peek in and find them extremely thirsty. I originally was going to say screw it and start all over but when I saw how sad they looked, I felt compelled to at least give them a drink. This continued right up till yesterday. I started by going in and accessing the damage I had caused. Right away I could see that the Mango was is a very bad way, much worse then all the rest. She may have been able to be saved but her yield would have been so low I could not justify keeping her. Off to the compost pile she went, to complete the cycle of life. The Betty is looking pretty sad herself, but since she is smaller and takes up less room I decided to keep her for the time being. I considered leaving the burnt leaves since there were so many, but then decided they had to go. With as many burnt leaves as I had, there would be no way to ever see if I was having any kind of deficiency because so many leaves were already looking terrible. When I started I tried to keep all the leaves and branches I removed neatly in a tray but it was not long before I realized that was a bit of a pipe dream. So here are a few pictures of the 1st big push to clean things up.
I have the plants about 95% cleaned up, there are a few small leaves that still need to be cleaned out but I ran out of time and I feel I got the majority of the plants pretty well cleaned up. I am sure my yield will suffer due to what has happened, but my logic at this point is some yield is better then no yield.
For those who suffered through to this point, I thought I would add a few pictures of a bud or two from my last grow. As many of you may already know I used the bud wash technique on my last grow and will be doing a taste comparison once it is fully cured. I am still about 6 weeks out from doing that test, though when it is done I will post my results. I actually have enough non-washed to do a 1/2 finished cure taste test and a full cure taste test so that may be in the works also.
