re: s1ingblade's Coco OG Kush & 818 HeadBand 1st Grow Journal 2013
Yeah today was 70 degrees Thank GOD! I can't wait for more days like today. Everyone up here gets fooled every time including the young trees, they all think spring is here the first time it hits 70 lol. We can get snow storms all the way through the end of MAY!
Looking great, to say the least AZmeds! Gotta' love those Heavy Indica strains. That purple condition seems to be ever present when I look at the influences coming from all over the place, seemingly the Indicas shine through. Over the years, I have had many plants that exhibit this trait. One was entirely purple on the underside and completely green on its top. It was as if the plant was divided horizontally. I believe that this is a genetics trait, very common now. It also can be the result of Mag deficiency as well as temperatures being on the cold side >50*F, BUT < 70* F. But then again, this is strictly IMHO! I like the look but do not see it being a sign of anything special or extraordinary...
Interesting concept, to take rooted cuttings directly into flowering. Lots of growers here doing exactly this and getting 1-1/2 oz's. per plant and in 3.5 months from cut to harvest. Makes sense if all one is trying to do is gain fast results, but the quality seems to be lacking in that the plant really gets zero time to get established. Its' only growth stage is in the conversion time from Veg. to Flower, and that really isn't, IMHO, enough time to let her stretch her arms and legs and gain her "personality" that is, what is she gonna' give back after allowing her the time she needs to gain her stature, height and stretch with branching and all... Again, MHO ONLY!
Any way you look at it, it is all good my friend. Keep up the good work! You'll get great results and God knows, you deserve. Also congrats on the additional patient. You are up to three people now? Or am I wrong and it is only at two?
I was reading back over this journal and was wondering if anyone has ever mentioned a way to have a back-up electrical system to keep all your timers operating in a power outage OR if turned off for maintenance, etc., and it dawned on me that there might be others that want something simple like that. There are several ways to achieve this, some more exotic (more expensive too) than others. One easy and inexpensive way, that comes to mind, is to use a battery back-up system. All one has to do is to obtain a cheap or still good but used automobile 12VDC battery, or any 12VDC motorcycle/alarm system battery. ANY decent amperage rated 12VDC battery. Then get a cheap inverter off FeeBay or wherever. One doesn't need much inverter power, so spending a lot for more power is a waste. I have seen kits on there going for a few dollars too! This would then be connected to the battery and converts the 12VDC to 120VAC, thus the "stand-by" power one would need. It is simple to go there and plug this in, in lieu of the household 120V power it was currently occupying, then un-plug later, once the power is already back on. To make that switch over in an "automatic" way would definitely cost too much for what it would be worth, unless one was attempting to establish a complete automatic system that required 1X week maintenance. ANOTHER WAY is to use 12VDC timers and run them only on a 12VDC system that would be entirely separate from the rest of the electronics of the grow operations. More on this if anyone needs, simply PM me, or I can write it up and post later. Lots of ideas from a grower for growers, proudly created in the USA!
