Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

I just realized that the last two words of this journal's title are "Perpetually Perplexed." I'd thought it was "...Perpetually Poleaxed," lol. Getting old and falling apart. I guess that "20/120" rating on my good eye must have expired within the past couple years :rolleyes3 .

Perplexed... Well, probably means the same thing, in context ;) .

How's it going, Rifleman? What's the story on those DDA selfings? Still auto-flowering, I assume? Are you seeing much more variation than in the parent generation? Would you say, on average, they're just as good (using whatever yardstick that is important to you)? And, if you had the choice, would you recommend 12 to 16 of them in two-liter pots (bottles) in nine square feet, or three or four in 2- to 3-gallon pots?

Nice cob setup u got there hey what nute line are u using rite now jus wondering cuz sum1 mentioned u were using remo nutes and I'm curently guna be doing a hempy run with the remo nutes so jus wondering if u had any pointers??

I'll be finishing off my left over AN when I resume growing in the large tent, the small tent will be Remo. Once the AN is gone I'll not replace it. I've only used Remo once before, and it was a mix and forget it grow, no pH adjustments, it worked great.

Poleaxed !

Yep the dda reversal was a great success. I've had a couple of phenotypes so far, but nothing I didn't get from the "factory" seeds. The only thing I've noticed is the size of mine were larger, but that is likely because I'm getting to know the strain and better at growing them. :geek: I'd go for the large pots, but really recommend dwc for max production. :)

Oh sweet and when u say mix it n go do u mean i cud mix up a gallon of this and let it sit till all used up or shud i only be mixn up what i use at one time??

good to see you back.

Thanks Gauge. I'm just passing through while on a break waiting for the rain to end. At least I'm well above sea level, prayers for TX and LA.

I wouldn't mix up a lot and leave it sitting around. I grow dwc so a mix and forget for me means I don't bother adjusting the pH in my reservoir during the week.

Ok jus wondering since im doing a hempy grow and ill be using remo nutes but yea man thanx for the info so even tho its hempy i still shudnt need to ph then? Or since it is hempy and a smaller rez. Shud i ph it? I guess thts what im wondering now lol sry 4 the noobie questions

Once inspired I occasionally manage to hold a thought long enough to make it so. ;) New lights at The Roost. :cheertwo:

I am trying to order some new cob led and a tent what brand are those I was looking at the optic 4 led with a 3*3 mars hydro tent for a nice scrog but am so torn on what light to get...

I've never grown hempy... yet, but from what I've been able to work out I'd mix small quantities and not bother with pH unless the plants begin to show symptoms of a problem. Take that with a grain of salt though. Tead or SweetSue could probably give you a better answer, hopefully their ears are burning. :)

PM sent.

<SHRUGS> Still a lot of hillbillies in my neck of the woods.

Ditto.

Makes sense. And most wouldn't consider that to be an issue, in any event.

I'd go for the large pots

I think I might try a couple in 2-liter bottles (since I've scrounged a few up), and maybe one in a pot. I have some square(ish) pots that are probably a gallon or so, a two-gallon bucket, and a couple of larger pots in the two- to three-gallon range (I'm guessing) to choose from.

Looks like the grow will be in the little 3'x3' closet area, to save on electricity. And even that... I'd consider inadequately illuminated (jury is still out on that one, though). It'd surely be enough if I run 18/6 all the way through, but I'm thinking about running some phototropic clones, which would - of course - necessitate reducing the gross light amount by 50%. Have a ~350-watt hybrid LED in there. Would love to expand it to 3'x5' (or a tiny bit less wide) and throw the 400-watt HPS in for ~750 watts. but I have a window a/c unit in the house, and when that is running, I think my electrical usage is right around 93% of total rated capacity - more if the refrigerator is going - and when the sump pump kicks in, well... it's a good thing this decrepit old house's wiring has both wires (ground? err... you mean that stuff outside that the grass and weeds are growing out of, lol?) on their own runs, separated by enough space that fire is... somewhat unlikely. I really get the impression that those "slow-blow" fuses are rated pessimistically, lofl, both in the actual rating and in the time it takes to blow one - because I'm pretty sure I once counted up the load when the LED, a/c, and those things which kick on at need do so... and came up with like 106% rated capacity :icon_roll .

And, yes, I know, I know, 80% of gross rated capacity is a good upper limit to shoot for. Sometimes live throws you a little curve ball, lol - other times it throws a 100-year old electrical system at ya.

but really recommend dwc for max production.

Oh, brother... You're preaching to the choir of the enlightened and initiated on that one. Hey, my font got small again. DOGGONE IT!!! Anyway, yeah, I love DWC. So much so, I used to run multiple 400- and 430-watt HPS setups even though the efficiency sucked compared to higher-wattage HIDs (and compared to having ONE room with multiple lights instead of several areas with one light each), because that way I could do a one-plant DWC scrog under each light. Most I ever got up to was eight, and that required a lease renegotiation (went from free electric to free gas and $30/month rent reduction as a telephone allowance). But that was years ago, when buying equipment and paying to run it was like a painter buying a new China bristle brush - just another business expense. Now... I got a bag of Happy Frog soil last year when someone asked me for three clones and insisted on paying me something. This year, OtOH, I'd probably ask for a sack of groceries. Err... rambling.

I've heard that the government sometimes pays farmers NOT to grow something. I sure wish they'd offer that deal to me. I'd tell them that I ordinarily grew a 300 square foot garden, but for... IDK, $10,400/year, I'd restrict myself to 50 ft.², lol. What? Still rambling? Huh... Imagine that ;) .

Anyway, anyhoo... I think it's time to go soak a couple DDAs, don't ya think?

Great to see you back, Rifle. Hope you had a great summer.

It's nice to follow your grows and your journal and I'm looking forward to both.

I'm just kicking another round into gear myself, stop by sometime and good luck with the Alien Man Pig whatever.

One thing sure hasn't changed over the years: Pot strain names. So crazy. And so many. When I started my first real grow in 1980 we had the choice of Mexican, Hawaiian, or Humboldt County Sinse...and the seedbank was whatever beans were at the bottom of the best half-ounce bag you could find.

Welcome back.

Peace, Hyena

I'm glad to be back HM. I wasn't sure when I shut things down if I'd continue to journal this season. The Alabama Keebler Elf makes me nervous. WTH though right ? Let's get with it. :passitleft:

Should be a great strain!
I'll be starting out some Sour Alien Livers here along with 5 or 6 other mephisto strains in about a month when my seed project finishes.
Can't wait to see what MBAP does. :passitleft:

Is Sour Alien Livers the one they nicknamed Prison Weed due to the extreme odor and need for top notch air scrubbers ? I've got some of those too, but next up in about three weeks will be the Mephisto Stilton Special. :high-five:

24 hr update. By 10am today all four of my seeds had cracked and had tails. All were placed into Rapid Rooters and buried deep in the 6" netpots and covered with hydroton. I'll hand water from the top until I see their heads pop up. Hope to have them all above ground by Friday.

I mixed two buckets with Remo, and two with Advanced, so it's a side by side grow off again... until I run out of the AN, which I don't expect I'll be able to do this grow.

The formulas starting out look like this, 4 gallons water(ppm 140) plus:
Advanced Nutrients.....micro, grow, bloom @10ml.....Hydroguard @ 9ml.....ppm around 360(220)
Remo.....micro, grow, velokelp, magnifical @ 6ml, Hydroguard @ 9ml.....ppm around 330(190)

I'll be reversing one of these and breeding a load of S1 seeds again. One can't have too many seeds laying around. Never know, I might get a chance to sell them at $5 each one day.

The 4x4 goes up in a couple of weeks, stay tuned, and stay stoned. Peace out Y'all. :peace:

:woohoo: Can't wait Mr. McCain. :slide: I'll be doing a side-by-side myself, once the closet empties out from all this overflow I created. :laughtwo: I want to do two DDAs, one in soil, one in hempy.

Those seeds of yours will be showing up in grows all through the forum. :cheesygrinsmiley:

The SSDC ? I hope the little orphans found good homes. I was shocked at how large mine got. :) First world problems huh.

Notice the lights ? I've run the tent for 48 hrs now and my top temp inside was 78F... without any exhaust ! It's going to be so much quieter in the old house now. No more inline fan roar. I also got the stuff together to make a hempy grow, except the round tuit. :biglaugh: Keep prodding me and I'll get it together.

Less than 48 hrs after placing them into germination I have the first leaves of the Fall 2017 growing season. Vigorous little girl too, they were planted about 4 inches under the media yesterday. Yep I'm a proud Papa. Have a cigar in celebration :blunt:

Love the lights. Wait until you see how the plants love them. :high-five:

Get a hempy one started and do a side-by-side: Wish running without a fan was an option for me. Come to think of it, I never tried it. I have 6 blooming out in the open as it is and no one's breaking down my door. I may be in a position to run without one and have been acting out of habit.

Hmmmm..... Dare I try?

Edit: I tried, and no.....that won't work for me. :laughtwo: Lucky you Mr. McCain. :hugs:
