Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

Any tips or secrets to going perpetual? I was looking for a journal but it’s a lot on a phone lol

@Smokerightnow I'm more of a grow all I can during the cooler months than a perpetual garden grower. Although it wouldn't take much to swap over. In DWC with my autos I'd run three tents and start each 1 month apart. Since they run 90-100 days it's just a matter of harvesting, cleaning up, and dropping more beans within a day or two. You need to know just exactly what your strain is going to do and have a timeline that is consistent grow after grow. Find a strain you like, grow it a few times taking notes on how long each stage takes, and total days to harvest. If you're growing in soil you can get by with your seedlings in your veg tent and get buy with 2 tents, my buckets just don't leave room for that.

I hope that helped, I'm not in the forums enough anymore to point you toward someone growing perpetual. However I know someone who probably knows where to hook you up. How about it @SweetSue who's got a perpetual garden journal ?:passitleft:

Hey Rifle, glad you're back in one piece!

Don't know if you're reading the forums much but if you are check out my journal, I have really upped my game brother.

You were always one of the folks whose work inspired me to continue. Thanks.

I look forward to seeing what you do next.

Peace, Hyena

NCH - Mephisto, Northern Cheese Haze
SS - Mephisto, Sour Stomper
4AM - Mephisto, Four Assed Monkey
BTSP - Mephisto, Blue Toof Special Pheno
MSC - Mephisto, Sour Crack
DDA - Sweet Seeds, Dark Devil Auto

Before above:

After below:

MSC x DDA = Sweet & Sour Devil's Crack (F1)....SSDC
NCH x SS = Sour Foot Cheese (F1).......................SFC
NCH x 4AM = Cheesy Monkey's Ass (F1).............CMA
NCH x BTSP = Blue Cheese Special (F1)..............BCS
DDA (S1)..................................................................DDA

Like I always say, if you see a long haired old hippie on a dirty motorcycle, scream out "Hey Luke". If he yells back "What Now!?" Offer him a toke. He always reciprocates graciously.:passitleft:

I tried that, but the guy just squeezed the clutch lever, pinned the throttle, and nearly scarred the shorts off a young lady who was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk. So I assumed his name wasn't Luke. Or maybe he hadn't heard me, and his goal was more than just almost, lol...

Anyway, I recently read of your newer auto crosses on Susan's huge list. I've collected a bunch of information about DDA, and even a word or two on SSDC (which doesn't seem to have a fan base :( ).

Can you "tell" me anything about the others? And might you be carrying any of them around with you whilst on your journey? If so, I'll try shouting a little louder next time I see a likely suspect ;).

Lol. Scent (and amount of), flavor, growth patterns, height/stretch estimates, is effect up or down (sideways? ;) ), average number of days from sprout to harvest, any significant deviations from the usual average nutritional requirements (e.g., nitrogen-hog, burns easily if not fed lightly, etc.), if multiple phenotypes are likely then repeat for each, and so on. Also, if any tendencies to produce opposite-sex flowers without being under undue stress, a mention of that would be great.

Well, you asked .

"They get me high" works, too, lol. I know you're not exactly a cannabis virgin, so I trust your judgment on that.

By the way, I think I've got one of your SSDC past the "I wonder if this thing is going to live" stage! At least I think that's what the one that's ⅛” above the soil is. I'll have to check my notes to be sure. I screwed around and stored all my seeds poorly, so I dropped an assortment of 15 for a soak (hoping five or six would ultimately make it to adulthood). Six popped, so I planted them in one of those little six-pack trays that nurseries sell tomato plants in for a couple dollars. I managed to plant every one root up, LMAO and they seemed to lack the resources to self-correct. Except for one that was just "insane" and turned into a loose knot, never saw that before. Anyway, I figured out something was wrong when I saw a doggone root tip sticking out of the soil instead of the cotyledons, and decided to dig up and reseat them, and it's looking like I managed not to kill one, maybe more. Looking forward to trying the SSDC.

And that reminds me: Thanks for creating those crosses, and passing some on to Our Lady of the Cannabis.

The DDA and SSDC are of course both light feeders. All the other crosses are F1 and I haven't grown any of them out yet. What info I have will have to be picked from my notes, but I'll see what I can do.

Directly from my notes.

MX3....27"....short & stocky.....easy trim....grenade buds....138g

MX4...26"......long droopy limbs.....pita to trim...extremely leafy.....275g

I remember writing that about mx3. The buds were hard and the size of a kid's fist.

I don't specifically recall mx4 but I can conjure in my mind what would cause me to write that......a 10" plant with seventeen 3ft limbs fully covered with buds and 18 medium fan leaves growing out of every bud, looking like long hairy green arms.

MX was a designation I gave to an unknown mix from Sweet Seeds, 3 & 4 being plant numbers.

Four Assed Monkey......139g dry

Sour Stomper.....190g dry, tall and lanky plant

Blue Toof Special Pheno......284g dry, giant beach ball of goo. Can't get near it without hair sticking to it.

Nearly all my grows go 85-95 days sprout to harvest in DWC. With the F1 Vigor I'd expect 3 to 5ft plants from any of the crosses in DWC. As far as smell or taste, well they all stink to my paranoid mind and I don't taste any difference in *most* strains from Mephisto. Nearly all of them with a sour backing.

Hope this helps. I don't remember anything out of the ordinary, but the grow Is the last one I completed so it's just a few pages back if you want to dig for something I might have missed. :passitleft:

Thanks, yes, will be helpful if I have the opportunity to try them in the future. Looks like I might be growing some of your first (?) autos this time. One SSDC and two DDA appear to be survivors, along with a northern light Auto and a train wreck Auto. Not a given, yet, so I'm going to wait to celebrate until they reach an inch on height. "SNAFU" is an apt descriptor. Say one thing about TS, say his clusterf*cks are rarely mild, lol.

I'm using a cell phone to access the forum, but will duo done backwards skimming through your journal when my laptop is in better shape. Probably install newer OS version when it gets cold in here (overheats) to fix issues.

Thanks again.

<singsong voice>I know someone who has a Sour Foot Cheese Auto down for germination. :ciao:
And it ain't me.:hmmmm:

It'll be the first F1 grown from the labs of The Roost in almost four years. Y'all keep your fingers crossed it sprouts, the beans went through some horrendous heat to get where they are.
:passitleft:

From "The Roost Genetics" I present to you Sour Foot Cheese F1. She sprouted in a timely manner in a hempy solo cup and after 3 days post sprout she was floated out of the perlite and transplanted into a 4 gallon pot with my homemade organic soil. For nearly 14 days she showed signs she did not care for my soil but then finally she started to get used to it.

So basically what I'm saying is she was stunted for over 2 weeks. Two weeks of wasted growth time where she was just trying to survive. Here she is in a photo taken on 10/3. I'll grow her out just to see what she looks like and what she produces.

Well, them there genetics did not really like/appreciate my organic soil. She basically sat there for about 2 weeks before she started growing. One of the leaves on her second node curled under......still green and alive, but curled under. Once she got a little bigger she began to like the soil. SO, she's growing well now but won't amount to all too much I don't believe. She has just started to flower. Here are a few photos taken today.

How's them there genetics working out ? Everybody still green and growing ?

Out of the seeds that broke ground (misc. autos, not just your DDA/SSDC), I got one Train Wreck Auto and one Northern Lights Auto make it past the cotyledon stage. I dropped another pair - each - of DDA and SSDC into cups of water after a brief swirl in a capful of H₂O₂ to kill any surface pathogens. Poured the water directly into that so that it'd break down and release a little O₂. That reminds me, I haven't checked on them since this morning - so thank you for the gentle reminder to do so.

If I get a pair of either, I'll try getting them going in perlite for the Vulx thing. If only one comes up, it might end up spending its life in a Solo cup for this:

If I get one of each... I have two-liter bottles, 5.8-quart wastebaskets, and three-gallon grow bags standing around, looking bored ;) . I can grow a plant - have the TWA in a hempy and the NLA in soil - but have been seeing germination/sprouting issues since late Summer. I assume it's the poor storage conditions, which have included some pretty extreme temperature swings the last couple years. I may have some fresh (to me, at least) seeds coming some time in the next couple weeks. Assuming that happens, I'll be making attempts on something more or less immediately, and have decided to dedicate space in the refrigerator for cool storage; its habit of sporadically not being able to keep food cool enough shouldn't prevent it from being a more suitable storage location than the box in the corner of the bedroom, which gets near (which side of it is a coin toss) freezing in Winter and mid- to upper-90s on hot sunny days.

I harvested the apical cola from the Canuk Quarter Pounder auto X Dark Devil auto today and trimmed it up. The aroma had my eyes burning a little. A combination of dank citrus, fuel, and something I can't identify. It smells NOTHING like a Dark Devil auto. I'm leaving the rest of the plant in the tent to finish for another week. Today the plant is at sprout + 80 days. She just looked ready to me. Here are a few photos.
