Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

Wow I came looking for you because somebody was asking about hydroguard vs z7 and I thought you ran both which you probably already seen it my now and answered that was hours ago haha

But I think I figured out my problems I never regularly added Cal mag because the crown royale I've been growing never ask for it until way late if ever and im growing LSD 25 and Jack herror this time and I really pissed them off in transition lost a lot of leaves before I figured it out

Now my question
On your air line going in how does that work do you run the line down the tube and that's it or is something on the end it in the bucket if I'm gonna copy you I wanna do it right I got some clear tubing and elbows shouldn't be but a few joint job

At the top of the sight tube there is a 1/2" plug with a 3/16"(I think) hole in it. The air hose just plugs into that. Then there is the 1/2" elbow at the bottom of the bucket going through the side wall. That's it. Nothing else inside the bucket. Makes checking the water level very easy by just pulling the air hose out of the sight tube, then the water comes up the tube. If you've marked the sight tubes like I have it makes tracking water usage easy too. Good luck !

BT...? She's getting chopped today. :yahoo: Her last photo shoot is below. I wasn't kidding when I said she was a beast. :thedoubletake: I'll be back with wet harvest numbers later on when I'm finished.

Mephisto Blue Toof Special Pheno, day 86

Three hours from start to the finish of clean up. Chopping is done for today. The Blue Toof can only be described as, Fat & Greasy. :thedoubletake: I'm not a fan of trimming but the entire time I was astounded by the size of the colas. The top of every branch had a cluster larger than my fists.

I know the question on everyone's mind; what did she weigh wet? :hmmmm:

Drum roll please...:theband:...........1358g wet off of a plant that was only 20" tall ! :goof::yahoo: If the smoke is as nice as the plant grew, I'll have to reverse the next one for some S1 beans. :blunt:

The house is once again quiet. The pump and fans are silent. Harvest is complete. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Here is a shot of the Mephisto Sour Stomper, day 88. This is the last photo before she straddled the nice biker's ride and disappeared forever. Her name only to be whispered, like smoke on the breeze.

So how did harvest turn out you ask... fat, greasy, and smelly. :thedoubletake:
4A - 713g
SS - 954g
BT - 1358g
DC - 90g

A total of 3115g wet ! In under 100 days, using only 350w of COB lights. Losing 81% water weight I can expect about 592g dry, or basically 1.7g per watt. Not a bad haul.

I'll be around for the next few months, but not on a regular basis, and not growing. Catch me here, or pm me if you need assistance. It's time to enjoy the warmth and sun. Come back in the Fall for another grow. Peace y'all. :peace:

An inspiration, @Rifleman ... 20oz every 100 days with autos. Damn.

Well happy vacation man thanks for what you do you got me doing things different just by riding along

I hope that works out for you and doesn't bite you in the behind. I've always been told I'm not a good role model.

Congrats on the harvest sir! Enjoy your break! I’ll be keeping my eyes out for the fall journal!

Thank you. Who knows, I might do a Summer grow too. Depends on if I get couch lock from the new flavors. :hookah:

An inspiration, @Rifleman ... 20oz every 100 days with autos. Damn.

Don't forget, the SSDC was a problem plant and only gave 90g wet. If it had grown a normal life harvest would have been closer to 24-26oz. :thedoubletake: I've only gotten autos this large in DWC though. It could be my inexperience with soil, but I only managed a couple oz per plant in dirt. BTW, there's another site where the guys grow 1lb auto plants. That's too much work for me though, I'm a lazy grower. :hippy:

I can't forget. My last couple in hempy have been short stocky specimens, this one is lanky. Hopefully when I reverse a Dr Kripling Incredible Bulk and cross it with the SSDC I will end up with some higher yielding phenotypes... I bet every plant will be different like my other 3 way photo crosses.

@Rifleman great job! You have been an inspiration! I almost gave up on DWC with so many issues I had at the beginning but I am on week 8 and I managed to recover my green Crack photo and she is looking healthy and bushy! The northern lights auto is about to be done but her growth was definitely stunted with my inexperience!

Thanks for all the help and advice! Enjoy your summer with that amazing bud that you got!

Here is a pic of them. Got a clone of the GC going in Coco but will transfer her to dwc once she grows a bit more.

For you folks that signed up to learn DWC I've got news. There was finally something to do today, reservoir changes. It's only been seven days since I did the first one this grow, but the temperature extremes this weekend have me wanting to empty the buckets and start fresher. If you missed it earlier, the reservoir temperatures were 80°F this weekend due to an hvac malfunction and wood stove.

The real quick explanation on how this is done is this;

Remove the netpot containing your plant and set it onto an empty bucket.
Take pH and ppm reading of the solution in the bucket. Write them down.
Empty and clean the bucket.
Fill the bucket with 4 gallons of fresh water that has had time for the chlorine to evap away.
Take a ppm reading of the fresh water. Write it down.
Add your nutrients and other additives you wish to use. Write down what amounts and what you use.
Make sure it is mixed well.
Take pH and ppm reading of the solution now in the bucket. Write them down.
Replace the netpot and plant on the renewed reservoir.

Notice I said ~Write It Down~ Note taking is an important part of DWC. If you trust your brain to keep these numbers and the ones from the previous week, well your better off than I am. I'm old and can't remember squat. The notes help me remember what my nutrient mix is. I compare that to how well my plant is doing and it gives me an idea of what to do next time in regards to feeding.

Since I did all this this morning for three different buckets, I'm going to spare you the overflow of info and not list each one here. I will however post an example of my version of notes, with readings. It goes like this.

ppm out......835
pH out.........6.6 @ 76°
pH in............6.3 @ 68°
ppm in........900
Plain water ppm.....132
Nutrient value of reservoir....768 (this is derived by subtracting the plain water ppm from the ppm in reading.)

That's really all there is to it. Repeat this every seven to ten days until they are using a significant amount of water, then it is a little different. I'll touch on that in a few weeks when it becomes an issue in my garden.

Any questions? Did I skip something that needs touched on? Speak up students, as Daddy used to say "I can't hear the rocks rattle when you shake your head, speak up."
Does the ppm go down as the plants eat the nutrients?

Don't sweat the problems with the auto plant. My SSDC this last run was a problem child that only gave up 90g wet. It happens to all of us. :high-five:

That's exactly what happens GDB. Starting at post #2559 I give a beginners tutorial on DWC, including a chart that helps you learn what to do with the different ppm & pH readings. Good luck.

I reckon y'all might be interested in the final haul from this last grow. :cheesygrinsmiley: It wasn't too bad, but would have been much nicer if the Devil's Crack hadnt been a runt.

4A - 139g @60%
SS - 190g @57%
BT - 284g @61%
DC - 15g @ 54%

That totals 628g or 22.4oz......under 350w..... for 1.8g per watt. :thedoubletake: In under 100 days. :blunt:
Want to learn how it's done ? Go back to post #2559 and start studying. :high-five:
Peace out y'all, see you next grow. :peace:

Yesterday was the first day of the month. I shouldn't have needed to remind y'all what to do. Big ripping bong hits for those that know what I mean AND did it.:roorrip:

Nasty frowny faces for those that should have done it but didn't. :(:(:(:(:(

Planting procedure 101.

Get your ...er... stuff together for the job.

View media item 1635343I let this tap root grow way more than i normally do for the purpose of instruction. I generally place them in Rapid Rooter plugs as soon as they emerge from the seed shell.

Clean the razor blade and tweezers with the alcohol. Use the razor to slice the Rapid Rooter and the tweezers to gently places our baby in the plug like this.
View media item 1635347
Close it up. Again, gently.
View media item 1635348

Place it in the bucket. The bottom of the plug around the area of the net pot where the openings start.
View media item 1635346

Backfill with your media.
View media item 1635344

Until it's covered and the basket is full. The full basket will help keep the plant stable when it's mature and top heavy. You can research crush factors of gravel and get an idea of why this is important.
View media item 1635345

Once everything is in place I take a solo cup and dip out a cup of the nutrient solution from the bucket and pour it all across the top of the media. This will insure your baby is damp, and it will help move moisture up from the reservoir by capillary action. I'll pour a cup of solution like this once each day until I see the plant sprout and maybe even until roots emerge from the basket.

That's it. The Sour Stomper is planted in a bucket. The other three will follow soon. Holler at y'all later. :ciao:

EDIT: There is a sprouted seed in that first photo. If you're on a phone exclusively like I am, you may have to zoom in tight. Lol
Having a catch up bro. Just a wee pointer for next time. The root riots are meant for germinating in. Just put the seed in pointy side up at 10-15mm deep and they'll work every time as long as they don't dry out or get far too cold. Doesn't make much of a difference but it does make a positive one.
Ive pushed them to see what's possible and they're awesome !
Fresh from the packet, I never watered them at all. 5-7 days in the dark at 10-15*c and they still popped. Started 150ish in root riots so far and I've had only 2 of them fail to pop. 1 was a bad seed, the other I fed the wrong mix and fried it to oblivion lol.
