Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

Day 35 for the msc, and day 40 for sdd. Day 11 treating sdd with Tiresias spray. The treated branch is much shorter than its untreated counterparts. They both have definitely hit the stretch. The sdd is 12.5 inches, and msc is 16.0. That's a 4.5 and 6.25 inch gain respectively since Sunday. I'm starting to feel a lot better about these two. Tomorrow is a water change day and the nutrient soup will be much more complex. I'll be following the AN calc for bloom ...almost. :) I'll let you know how it goes, but right now I'm going to fill my Nascar habit for a few hours. Y'all enjoy the photos. :peace:

Yesterday was water change day and there were some surprises for me. Both of the autos more than doubled their water intake last week with MSC drinking 3.5 gallons. They are shooting upwards too. SDD was up to 14 inches and MSC has hit 17 They were swapped over to a bloom nutrient diet which includes enough AN additives to have whole house smelling like the garden center at Kmart. ;) The spraying of ball sauce continues, and it looks like hell. Still no balls though. Next photo update is Thursday. I'll be teasing you with facts and data until then. :peace:

Days 40 and 45. That must mean it is a photo update day. :goof: Be sure to check back this evening, photos have to wait until lights on which conflicts with today's scheduled 420Mag maintenance.

You did know about that right? IIRC it is an 11am pacific time start, and the site will be down between a couple to several hours. See you later tonight. :)

As promised today is a photo update day. Day 45 for the dark devil and day 16 receiving the tiresias spray. She is 19 inches and showing the first signs of growing balls. The sour crack is on day 40 and has grown to 21 inches. She is just barely showing some burnt tips. I'm running both around 475 ppm nutrients. AL got watered again today, and added five gallons to her reservoir. She is now 87 days along and would outgrow my large screen if I were to flip the lights now, much less this little screen I have on her now. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with her. I might flip the lights when the autos quit stretching. I hate to sacrifice yield on them, but I don't want to keep putting in effort on the photo plant just to have a family vacation ruin it like last time. I need two tents and to start sativas in September since I hibernate inside all Winter. What's an old pothead supposed to do. :biglaugh: :grinjoint:

Man, still not seeing a hint of purple on that DD.
Sorry to rub it in, but WTF right?!

No shit! I know how my luck runs. She will probably not give any color AND successfully produce pollen...that will then be useless to me :biglaugh: I'll wait and see but I was hoping for a larger purple pheno to get my pollen from. On the plus side the msc is already taller than Atrain's was so I expect a good haul from her. Contemplating maybe running some seeds in a soil grow to see if I can get a harvest in less than 100 days. :)

Guessing A's msc was before my time, but I'll take your word for it. They both look great, which you don't need me to tell you of course.

You make it hard (hehe) to stick with my commitment to high brix next time with these DWC gurls.

Oh so easy to do ;)
I wont switch back from it now :)
I found the noise is not too bad coming from my air pumps, i think my exhaust fan setup is the loudest

I lost most of the exhaust noise by switching to the led. The buckets sitting on the floor echos the bubbling through the house. Additional padding did not help. It's like white noise now, I only notice it if it stops. :)

Should be a lot better here fan-wise in the next few months and will be able to turn them right down, still struggling in the summer heat here waiting for a change. Managed to have a decent harvest in the middle of summer under a HPS at pretty hot temps (even the res was sitting on around 28c most days), should be a breeze in winter
Over all i do like the DWC setup though, so easy to maintain, I find the only time i mess with PH is mixing nutes at the start of the week, add tap water to top up during the week, my PH stays within the right range. Another thing thats great is the ability to notice a def and do something about it instantly, very easy to dump out a res and flush if need be :)

You're working harder at it than I am Feral. I never bother with pH anymore. I change the rez on Sundays and don't even check it. When I add water it is with a dose of nutrients at half the concentration of what I used on the previous Sunday. One less instrument for me to have to futz with and keep in calibration. :)

Day 18 of the tiresias spray on my dark devil. Appears it is effective. My first time doing this so I have no idea how long I have until viable pollen is available. Anybody that has produced pollen have any sage advice?...Should I keep spraying her? Help please? I'm keeping the hairy eyeball on the balls. :biglaugh: If I can get some pollen soon I think I can seed this girl. It's close to day 50 and she is still growing a half inch a day, and the buds have not even really started to set. :) Plenty of time to get viable seed I would think? I would really appreciate some experienced view points. Click any of the photos for a better look. Thanks . :)

I am by no means an expert but I have been reading through this grow from the past using CS.
Producing Feminized Seeds Using Colloidal Silver

From what I was reading in there the biggest mistake people were making was trying to use the pollen when it was immature. Seems that if you can wait until the nanners start cracking open and releasing some pollen you have a much better chance of it working. Also proper storage makes the world of difference. Seems they noticed some issues if you let the paint brush or q-tip you use to distribute the pollen actually touch the pistils. Worked better by just letting the pollen float down on the flower.

Also in that post they seem to discuss how the female pollen buds don't seem to open quite the same as male pollen buds. I haven't gotten all the way through it yet but definitely a recommended read.

Again I'm no expert but am learning fast. :laughtwo:

Thanks for the link Hemi I've read several but had not seen that one yet, and Feral for your comments also. I'm going to keep checking the balls a couple of times a day. When I think it's the right time I'll remove SDD, pollenate the hell out of her, and return her to the tent after a few hours sans the shemale branch.
