Rifleman's Roost Open 24/7: Perpetually Perplexed

Livin at the bottom of that toilet bowl baby.

Oh, yeah, I forgot where you live. Hey, I lost a quarter down the drain about three days ago, can you watch for it? It ought to be washing past any second now.

Ya think it would make it that far before melting in the stew?

IDK, now that you mention it. It's post-1964 (otherwise, I'd have probably opened the drain to recover the $3.03 worth of metal it contained), so no silver in it.

I try to focus on the bodies floating thru... they often have change in their pockets still.

I do not become amused easily. Therefore, you should take it as the highest compliment that, upon reading that, I literally fell off the folding chair I was sitting in.

When I recovered enough to think, my first thought was, "Well, they must not have been from around here, then."

Then again, if the local fauna hasn't eaten them by the time they make it that far, perhaps they are from hereabouts. Pollution not being the best spice and all ;) .

Thanks for the chuckle, bro.

Awesome man. I’m gonna give it a go!

Sub up to a bunch of dwc journals and learn all you can. Feel free to drop in or pm any questions, I'll be around pretty regularly until late April, early May.

.......Ironically - and thankfully! - one of the seeds I wasted was a selfed DDA, and I have a few of them, so it's only a minor inconvenience and time-waster. Time to go teach another one to swim....

Any time I'm not sure of what I'm going to do I drop a DDA bean. It seems I have a few extra from somewhere. :)

I wouldn't. Been there, done that. A friend and I once broadcast, IDK, something like 200 "seed/compost balls" thinking we'd not worry about only being able to harvest 40 or 50 plants.
We ended up finding TWO. One of which was a male (and the other one - a female, thankfully - was close enough to get pollinated).
I think Johnny Appleseed must have begun his journey with half a million seeds. Or else most of them ended up in well-tended apple orchards instead of the woods.

That's a difference worth noting (IMHO).
Aside from that, I'm not a fan of companies which are basically being run (and which were, in fact, founded) by the marketing department. That's a general statement, BtW.

That, too.
Good to know.

Also notice my airlines running to the top of the tubes? Air is pumped into the tube, through the elbow fitting at the bottom, and directly into the bucket... no airstones.
Could that by why your roots aren't still white as can be at harvest time? IIRC, the vast majority of the oxygenation of a liquid occurs at the surface; IOW, it doesn't matter if a tank is two feet deep or ten, since there isn't much benefit from the bubbles traveling up through the liquid. Err... I think? It's the turbulence at the surface, the multiple bubbles "breaking." I have gotten the impression that the same amount of DO ("air"), delivered by way of more - but smaller - bubbles gives the most value, due to the ability to provide a more turbulent surface interface.
That could all just be a steaming pile of horsesh!t, though ;) .
Probably the only thing I have against DWC. At reservoir change time, it becomes just another drain-to-waste hydroponic method. I used to try to pour mine outside (as and when I could) so that the plants in the garden could have a chance of wringing the last bit of nutrient out. But I must confess that I've dumped my share of nutrients into the sewer, too, in the past. Visiting the local wastewater "treatment" plant and realizing just how much stuff goes right through it, untouched, and then directly into our natural water systems... was a real eye-opener. It was almost like they weren't doing anything (FFS!) - just letting micro-organisms (and some that could be seen with the naked eye) eat what they could of the organics, then running all the solids (undigested feces remnants, about ten billion cigarette butts, coins, jewelery, the (very) occasional finger/fetus, et cetera) through the giant press to remove all (that they could) of the last bit of liquid from it, then into the big dumpster for haul-out. Everything else... to the river! Because, hey, it's not like we - and all the other communities downstream - get our drinking water from the river or anything <HEROIC EYE ROLL> .[/SIZE]

GPS is a help to forest growers nowadays I'm sure :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed AN is a marketing company, not a nutrient supplier. We're you aware that their US importer sells online for less than US retailers can buy ? AN was notified and nothing changed.

I've considered airstones in the buckets , and believe that might be the cause of tan to brown roots at the end. Expense and effort are the reasons I've not changed anything yet... well that and my harvests have been adequate enough to keep me lazy.

If I were on sewer instead of a septic tank, I'd probably look for another way of disposing of the old solution. Until then we all know where the grass is greener.

Anytime baby! I like to lean the dark way with my humor. A dark Tead wonders how many bodies have made their way down the drain into the gulf over the years.

I might be able to put names to a few of them, but I'm not into self incrimination.:rofl:

Nothing new to report in the gardens. Today's post is a .....

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

There has been a huge recall on fire extinguishers. You DO have one, right ? Please everyone check yours to make sure it is safe to rely on. If you don't own one, bypass that next bottle of miracle grow juice and buy one.

Climbing off the soapbox now, somebody pass this around ....:passitleft:

Hey, thanks for that. Mine are old, so probably not affected by this. But you just reminded me to go check the tags to make sure it's not time for inspection/service.

Right on Rifleman, got my 4 buckets setup with level indicators and everything is marked and ready to go.

I'll be watching!

Great ! Be sure to holler if you have any questions. :thumb:

You’re the man! Good stuff.

:thankyou: Grandpa. :) although that's not quite true. I'm just an old pothead that wants to pass on what he can before this big blue orb tosses him away.

Finally gave up on SP4 breaking groud. First failure I've had with a Mephisto seed. Looking at what was left I'm thinking it *might* be my fault. Maybe too moist. However, it did take 4 days for my last Stilton Special seed to germinate. Ten ayem saw a swapping of the guard. It's not a big deal as I plan to reverse one of the others, and this will just help that out. :)

I'll give you a heads up tonight, tomorrow is going to be water change day for the MBAP. I've already written out my headers for my note taking. If I get a chance after the change is done I'll list the data for each plant... by Monday morning for sure. If you're an experienced dwc grower you can skip over it. I record it here in case someone is trying to learn through lurking and osmosis. :biglaugh:

Y'all come on back afterwards and we'll take a look at pH/ppm in and out, how much they've grown and drank since last water change, nutrient brands, etc. Get your thinking caps on if you have questions. If you wanna sit over in the corner, jeer, hoot, and generally be the class clown :clown: I'll support that too.

'Night y'all, there's a fire in the pit and it's calling my name. :peace:

Photos ? Didn't take any. Gives you something to look forward to. ;)

I notice you give temp readings with PH. Does your PH pen just do both, or do you feel temps have a significant impact on PH?

The BlueLab measures both. I post it just because. I know temperature is supposed to have an effect but it's not a concern for me. Especially now with the COBs.

In terms of pH, it really doesn't change it much. In the temperature ranges one's reservoir can be reasonably expected to be - and considering the application we measure pH for - it's more or less insignificant.

The temperature data can be useful in its own right, though ;) .

Day 38 for the MBAP.

MBAP#1, first photo, has a beautiful bushy structure. The other three are much taller, and "gangly". It must be genetics as everything was identical. If all four had stretched I'd blame it on the new lights and my inexperience with them.

And today was Day 12 for the Stilton Specials. #4 failed to sprout, but there is a replacement buried already. It should sprout by tomorrow. Tempted to top these girls just above the 4th node... what do y'all say ? :)
