Rex's Perpetual Hydroponics, LED, 4x4 Tent Using TBC 10 Gal System: All Are Welcome, Come Learn & Help

My res is 35 gallons and it sits on a warmish floor (70/21) while I've got a water chiller cooling the water to 68/20. I built a riser out of 1x2 and put a sheet of fiberboard on top. Very easy to put together and good at distributing the weight on the tent floor (I've got a Gorilla 2 x 4 tent).

Another idea - hockey pucks. I used those under the feet on a subwoofer. They work like a charm and they're easy for you to come by.
Thanks- my cheap lil coasters are working for the moment, my reservoir actually sits outside the tent. It's 100L and currently sitting on 1 inch sheet of Styrofoam, and partially wrapped. Right now I've got to heat the reservoir, but have a chiller ready to be installed once the temps require it.

For the buckets, I've just got to get to the store to buy some furniture coasters (covid has kept us fairly homebound and there's no rush).

Nicely done Rex! Great job turning them around. :bravo:

Thanks, I'm looking forward to seeing some real growth soon!

Journal Update!
Day 41
Veg Day 26
Tent temp: 25C avg
Tent RH%: 50~70%
Previous PPM: : 742
Current PPM: 775
Adjusted PPM to
: 775 (not adjusted)
PH: 6.5 reset to 5.7
Res temp: 20.07C
Water level: down slightly
Light draw from wall: 285 Watts
Distance to plants~ 4 feet

So the girls are looking good. New growth isn't as fast as I'd like to see, but the stretch has yet to hit. The stunted runt is sitting on her sill.

Today all that was done was a PH down adjustment. I noticed a slight rise in PPM and will keep an eye.

I also bumped the light up 40 Watts more, it's now at 285 Watts. I did it about 30 min prior to lights off. No real reason, just timing.

Hope you're all have a wonderful day,

The snapshot of the weekend:

They are looking wonderful now rexer! Happy and loving life. Hopefully you start seeing some more ppm drops with that ph rise, otherwise things have settled down a lot! Good job

Thanks @dick23rk, I'm just so relieved happy that they're getting what they need. Now I'll slowly start turning the light up while keeping my eyes open for any bleaching.

Appreciate you stopping by brother :Namaste:

Flower Day 2

Tent temp: 25C avg
Tent RH%: 50~70%
Previous PPM: : 788
Current PPM: 794
Adjusted PPM to
: 830
PH: 6.3 reset to 5.8
Res temp: 21C
Water level: decent drop
Light draw from wall: 320? Watts
Distance to plants~ 4 feet

So...I've been fairly quiet on here as there's not a whole lot to show. The girls are on track and I'm pushing them to the limit nute wise. I was planning on doing a res change today, but decided to give my top up bucket a good cleaning (I forgot to put the lid on tight and got a touch of algea in it). So, the res will be changed out tomorrow instead.

Today I basically just introduced 30ML of liquid koolbloom ( and added 25ML of extra Diamond Nectar).

I noticed last night that 2/3 plants are now showing pistols, the SuperSkunk is a bit younger, but looks like she's ready to show at any time.

The stretch has started for one of them at least :yahoo:

The other two I expect to start entering the stretch anyday now.

I bumped the light up last night to 320ish Watts. Tomorrow I'll bump the light intensity up again.

Hope everyone is having an awesome day :Namaste:

Journal Update!
Day 44
Veg Day 30
Flower Day 3

Tent temp: 25C avg
Tent RH%: 50~70%
Previous PPM: : 841
Current PPM: 765
Adjusted PPM to
:
PH: 6.6 reset to 5.8
Res temp: 21C
Water level: reset
Light draw from wall: 389 Watts

Did a res change last night. New batch had the following (going by memory here):

90ml cal mag
60 ml FloraNova Bloom
60 ml diamond Nectar
20 ml Orca
60 ml hydroguard
15 ml mycos chum

And they seem quite happy this morning.

Amazing comeback @Rexer :yahoo: so happy for you man, it’s gotta feel good to peek on that camera and see them looking this lush.
Thanks Michael, it's a happy site to see things back on track indeed! Don't remember ever having a grow of any type start as rough.
Lookin good Rex!
Thanks BassBuds! Here's to hoping it stays that way!
Day 43!!! How do you keep them so small! Tell me your secret!
Quite simple: start your seeds before your grow area is ready. Then you gotta leave them in their germination home way past their time. Then sunburn them with too bright a light. Then screw them sideways with cal mag issues.
Apparently if you do all that your medical grow diminishes.
Not proud of their size, & at this point I'm just happy to know that I'll have some pain meds in a few months. My last order from the LPs (which you have to order from in Canada) is still sitting in a Canada post truck and I've been out of flower for a few days. Anything that gives me independence from them I'll be more then happy/proud with.
My goals are simple: self sufficiency with affordable medication. Anything beyond that is just a bonus.
Looking great brotha, hope you have a great weekend.
Thanks Dusty, hope you have a good weekend too brother

Riders been having the opposite problem- lucky guy

i'm curious what the mycos is doing as it isn't for hydro apps.
The mycos or the mycos Chum?

The mycos (orca) is basically just benificial bacteria- same stuff as great white, but made for hydro.I'd love to belive that there's something beyond that happening- but I'm not quite too sure. I do know they say that they remain dormant until it latches onto the roots (quite sure I read that somewhere :hmmmm: )...the site says the following: "This concentrated and diverse mix of mycorrhizae and beneficial bacteria is designed to be watered in or run through hydroponic or irrigation systems".

Rexer! Dang you... you made coffee come outta my nose! My girl almost called 911 cuz I was laugh-choking so hard. It’s a helluva way to start the day. :laughtwo: :laughtwo::laughtwo:
Your girls are the perfect size to produce a good crop and still be manageable. They look so good! I’m going to employ your grow style in the future.
Too bad there’s a border between us or I’d make a road trip to see you after this grow is cured.

i meant the mycos chum
Well, it is made for hydro- that's the only thing for certain. My guess, based upon reading from @NuttyProfessor would be this: due to the environment within my system (or most hydroponics) the beneficial bacteria die out/starve out as there's nothing to feed them. By feeding them the chum, it's keeping them alive, which in turn is helping keep my PH in check.

Lots of that is guesswork, and I'd be very open for discussion on it, as I noticed this product has helped with my PH. For the most part? Probably just expensive molasses with fish turds
Here's the back label:

 I'm glad, that was before my first coffee as well, so I was afraid it would come across as snarky rather then the humor it was meant as. I'm several coffees later now:meditate:

Lol if the border wasn't shut down and us not on lockdown- I'd say there's a blunt here and cold beer with your name on it.

you're running a live res. i'm guessing it works in tandem with the orca, maybe the hydroguard too which is enzymatic, but not sure on that.

threw me for a loop as it looks super similar to products we used to use in soil.

Yeah it was one of those late nights, lots of meds, and too much time scrolling through the Zon.

I did notice improvements once I started using it. Though to be conclusive on it being what cause the improvements- it would have to be repeated in future grows (and that will only happen if the price comes back down).

Hmm I always thought hydroguard fell more into the beneficial bacteria category vs the enzymes. Though I start getting lost beyond that in truth. It was a part hope of mine that it would actually help the hydroguard as well in one form or another.

Edit,- found some interesting reading on the topic. If in fact I am actually achieving a form of organic Hydroponics, I think the large amount of hydroton may be playing a role?
Truth is that is a semi long term goal after religiously reading over Nutty's work, but even if not fully achievable I'll just take what works for me.

The Importance of the Biofilter

The beating heart at the center of organic hydroponics is the biofilter. In general, a biofilter is a system that takes in large, complex organic molecules and breaks them down into simpler molecules, with the help of oxygen and biological catalysts (such as microbes!).

"All organic hydroponics systems depend on the existence of a biofilter, based on microbial catalysts to break down the complex nutrients and deliver them to the plants. In essence, the biofilter is doing the job that soil usually does.

In systems that are based on the use of a substrate, the substrate beds themselves can act as the biofilter. This is true of many aquaponic systems – it just depends on providing enough surface area, oxygen and nutrients for thriving microbial life to develop."

A few questions about your setup here (maybe you answered earlier, forgive me if I missed it).

1. For your DWC, is the hydroton just sitting in a pool of water or do you have anything separating the hydroton from the bottom of the bucket? Where are your airstones, under the hydroton in the bucket?
2. Are you running your sprayer pump at all times, or do you have it going on an interval.
3. Do you have the 4 buckets hooked up to an external reservoir? How big is it?
4. Have you grown DWC before trying the bucket company? How does growth speed compare with normal DWC?

Thanks, trying to figure out my next setup
