Renaissance Man's First Official Grow: Blueberry OG, Gorilla Zkittles & Cream Caramel In Soil

Interesting! I suppose there are more ways to water than one.

My goal is to get through this grow with only the Tega Brop and the diy calmag and hope that can do it. My next question is when to flip to flower?

What are thoughts behind this? Size? Time frame? Strain?
Omg I have zero idea.

Well that’s a realistic goal. TB makes everything so much easier. Well for me it does. My first grow I had 4 nute bottles I had to mix lollll.

I have always been told when to flip, I can never ever tell. I was just looking at my Mimosa Eva yesterday, who is fucking HUGE by the way, she is taking up so much tent and I was thinking just that. When do I flip?

Day 40 of growth
1 day since water/feed

I feel like they are malnourished plants or at least began that way. They didn't seem to have any sort of growth spurt as of now. Maybe it's coming?

The plants are looking good today, however, that CC seems to have been stunted with 2 transplants, bad ones to say the least. She is growing, but slowly. I don't think she'll catch up to the others. Side note: she is the same age as BB which are both a week behind GZ.

GZ seems to be doing really well. The main stem is getting thicker and the new growth is starting quickly. I am concerned about the height for this one. It probably would have been better to top it in the 1gal, but I felt her deficiency problem at the time would have made it tougher. Maybe I underestimated. Either way, I had to re-configure my lights as the max height I could get from the canopy would give a few more inches. I imagine I'll have to do some supercropping at some stage (Apparently, supercropping is not in my Microsoft dictionary). It also looks like it is starting to pre-flower. Can I still veg longer or does it need to be flipped now? I was under the impression, I can flip whenever I choose, as long as I have the space.

And finally, BB also seems to be growing well. One of the first or second nodes has really good growth. It's halfway up to the canopy. I'm not sure what that is going to look like when it comes to Lollipopping later. (Apparently, lollipopping is not in my dictionary either! Hmmmm.. Either is Hmmmm. I digress.) The deficiency noted on the bottom, which I was assuming was a magnesium deficiency, seems to have stalled once the 5ml of Calmag was introduced. I thought it might be too much at 5ml / 1.5L but it seems to be working for now. I still feel like I need much more time before I flip to flower. Not 100% confident that issue is gone. There are yellow tips on some of the newer growth, but it seems to be from the food. I hope.

Day 41 of growth GZ
Day 34 of growth BB and CC
2 days since water/feed

After staring at GZ and BB a little bit longer, I am noticing more yellow around the edges of newer growth. Is this a sign of having to inrease my Tega Brop? I think not as it appears small nute burn at the tips. I'm at equivalent to 4g / gal. Or, is it something else, like increasing my Calmag? Here are my concerns:

That soil looks super dry.

I know I’m the antichrist when it comes to 420’s water rules but if they were mine I’d waterboard them stat.
Hmm interesting. Yes the top soil is dry until about 3 or 4 inches down I'm guessing, but still feels wet at the bottom. I don't mind watering the top soil. Are these signs of thirst?

I don’t know. Im defs not an expert.

I water almost daily and my Mimmy drinks 3L per day.

I live in a different climate. I don’t get twisted over watering, but my grow is predominantly outside.

To me that soil looks too dry.

Well, based on how your plants look, you're definitely onto something. I'm going to re-evaluate my watering technique. So how often are you feeding then? daily also?

Look I have the advantage of kind of knowing plants. Not MJ. House and yard. I’ve been nipping and striking cuttings my whole life, so I know how to grow. I’ll get a pic of my herb garden for you today. I love growing plants. I love how they bring birds and bees to my yard.

When I first joined I became 420 water obsessed. Feeding my plants slowly like I was feeding a baby. Tipping it around the very edge of the pot, watching for water run off. Then I realised it is a fucking weed. Just waterboard it like I do all my plants. So I did. In Veg I leave them in the rain. I often hit them with a hose to wash their leaves and I waterboard them like I’m interrogating a terrorist.

I feed daily, unless I have had them out in the rain.

My advice. Try not to reinvent the wheel and overthink it. Start looking at your garden outside. Look at what everyday plants need to prosper. In my mind my leaves are the plants mouths, they should be open and raised up towards the sun source and drinking in its power. I can tell as soon as I look at a plant if it is smiling.

While your plants don’t look fucked, they certainly don’t look like they are smiling to me. But again I’m no expert.

Thanks @Trala for your detailed answer. I think I'm going to take a more "organic" perspective to my watering technique and I need to experience for myself of what happens.

From my understanding, too much water will create yellow leaves. Underwatering will create a wilt. The yellowing I have in my leaves don't seem to be too much water, nor are they wilting. Therefore, it must have more to do with the nutrients or lack thereof. I, like you, do not want to mess around with pH-ing anything. I think I'll adjust my nutrients next feeding in a couple of days and see where that goes.

I may be completely wrong about all this, but I guess I'll find out.

You have to find what works for YOU RM!! Every grower is different!! Find your flow!! If it works, it works great. If it doesn't it's doesn't and you learn and try something new. Also great.

Just remember opinions are like arseholes. Everyone has got one. Some are great, some are hideous and some are just plain boring. For me the best thing about an opinion, is I can take it or I leave it. As long as I learn from it in some form it’s all good.

So true.

It took me a good six months to work out things that work growing wise for some people in here just don’t work for me. It was so annoying too because they were always growers I wanted to emulate who used tried and tested grow methods.

It just takes time and practice.

Day 42 for GZ
Day 35 for BB/CC
3 days since water/feed

All the plants seem to be looking good. The P600 on the left side covering mostly the BB and the P1000 on the right side covering mostly the GZ. The CC get's about 50% of each light.
They seemed to be looking up to the lights which I think is a good sign. I'm not sure if the yellow tips had anything to do with light stress, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to raise the lights up a couple of inches. I'm now at 20" above the canopy. The light recommendation is 16" -20" at this stage.

I don't have a temperature gauge in the tent, but it feels about 78F in the tent. I have a small stationary fan and keep the door closed except for a few 30 checks throughout the day.

I like how the GZ and BB are starting to pick up growth. My plan is to veg them for 20 days. That may change. I'm not sure what part of length of vegging relative to the pot size is recommended. My guess is if I veg too long, I may get rootbound in flower and that would be bad. Maybe better to have smaller plants in 5gal? Thoughts?

edit post: I thought I would tag @ViparSpectra in case I need any counseling when it comes to their lights.

Haha, I don't know. I gotta be close though. I'm in Southern California, I feel that temperature often. I don't know if investing into a thermometer is necessary though, not that it's expensive. Maybe it is necessary.

@ViparSpectra, on second thought and doing some more research, I am leaning to believe I have been experiencing and am experiencing some light stress. Is it possible that 100% at 16" is too much?

I raised the lights to 20" and now lowered to 85%

I don't know, I'm not sure that's light stress, looks like more of a deficiency to me. What are you feeding them? From what I'm seeing they don't look stressed at all.

I don't know man. I'm feeding them megacrop. I'm at a loss.

Day 43 for GZ
Day 36 for BB and CC
Water/Feed day

So, I'm not sure what to make of the curled leaves. Yesterday, I turned the fan down a little and raised the lights and it seemed to get worse. I was trying to raise the humidity. My guess is that the environment went wrong yesterday and it needed more air circulation. Today, I watered and fed which looked like it was due. It took more than the last watering and took the entire 1.5L of water with not too much runoff. I think they were thirsty and parched. Yep, I'm going with that for now.

I'm trying to make little changes to see if I can pinpoint the issue. I don't think it is a nutrient issue. Anyways, the saga continues.

Pics of today before watering:

GZ (I have been slowly bending the new growth down to see if it is a light issue, that's why they are leaned over)

Are you supplementing anything on top of the Megacrop, like say Cal/Mag?
