Relaxed's Winter Experiment

Therye looking great, Lester! I'm sure they'll fair well. Hoping they do. Because if they can survive there, they can hopefully survive over here by the other puddle. Lot of fog here, too, but a bedsheet draped overhead of them night can save them from that. A tarp could collect water and crash down, why I'd use a sheet, lol.

Wouldn't a male have showed by now, before your girls showed?

Yah and I feel ya, that's why this is an experiment, I specifically chose this strain for their hardyness, since it's a cross with Brazilian Haze it should fair well in these conditions, not to mention Russian Ruderalis. If this were my normal spring/fall crop I'd be out there doing what I can, but ultimately since I am an outdoor grower I am at the mercy of Mother Nature, plain and simple. Some years will be amazing, some years won't be so amazing - just how it goes! ;)

Rain definitely coming down now, it's a nice shower, nothing too strong yet, I think they'll like it and hopefully wake up to some fresh sun-shine, they'll love that after a night of cold rain.

And about the male, yeah, I totally agree that a male should have shown by now, if there was indeed one, but I think that with the Russian Ruderalis it may be hard to say, I think it's possible I could see a male still, but the odds are in my favor that they're all female, the flowers are progressing as each night passes, so we should know soon enough :Namaste:

Mother Nature does take care of her own though, don't she? ;) And I tell ya what, I love a sunny morning after an evening rainshower! Especially this time of year, feels nice and warm then, just a bit humid. That's good to know, about Ruderalis, it sounds a bit unpredictable. That'd be nice to have all females, one hell of a crop, hoping for ya! Planted mine the other day, it's a half-inch tall now. :) Just started a journal for it. What I'm hoping is, is that with the same gals growing, and your's are big already, there'll be some sort of quantum entanglement thing, and mine will grow like crazy to catch up. Pipe dream, lol. ;)

Tomorrow I'm going to cut a clone off one of the plants, I have had my eye on a certain little branch for some time now, and it is the worst looking branch but I think I can clone it. I was thinking that if it turned out male I would collect the KC-45 pollen and cross breed that with the Hong Kong OG. Just a thought :Namaste:

Plants endured quite well, looks like a sunny day ahead of us. Some news, flowers progressed last night, and I'm pretty sure there are 2 males, so I will probably be killing at least one of them, if not two in the next couple days. Need to bust out my jewelers loupe and make sure. There may actually be a third male in there that is going slower than the others. Speak of the devil :wood:

Well our family may be getting smaller... But it will only make us stronger ;)

It's been a good day, I pulled the two males and trashed them, and tied down one of females in place of them. So we now have two pretty nice female KC-45's tied to the hand-rail, and then one lonesome suspected male that I'm waiting for it to progress a bit more before I trash it. It looks like we'll have had 2/5 female on this round, which was one of the obvious possibilities stated at the beginning of the thread. So I decided to start germinating the 5 remaining KC-45 seeds today.

The 2 females

And I was considering ordering some Blackberry seeds that are feminised, expensive, but I kind of would like to have something exotic, suppose to be a cross b/t Rasberry Cough and Black domino so it should produce some purple buds. Still pondering :Namaste: and :peace:

Hey Gang, just a pit stop to pass some info for those on a budget. My neighbors brother is very handy and creative, he is making a grow box from a refrigerator box. It is one of those double door units and almost 7.5 feet tall and gives about 3.75 ft. x 4 ft. square base. The biggest savings we found though was on the Mylar for reflective use. Seeing rolls anywhere from $22.00 to $40.00++ depending on total feet and mil`s. They sell those survival camping blankets for $4.49 a package and they come 4 blankets to a package. They are 84"x52" so that will cover 4 panels 7 ft. tall x 4.3 ft. wide. They were a "Prime " item so shipping was free, that plus the savings compared to the rolls. He applied it to a new 600 w DUAL ARC HPS / MH bulb that only cost him $38.00. Just a little tip that may help some one down the road and being "frugal" with your grow is always a good thing!!! Happy growing to you all and ...Peace.....I am hoping to be there "full time" some day!!
:420: :Namaste:

Awesome shot!

Sorry to hear about so many males, but at the same time, happy for you to have at least one male for pollen, and two gals. Hoping the new ones give a higher ratio of females to you.

I wonder what all the stringy green things are, behind the pollen sack....

I'm actually debating whether I want to collect the pollen, it would just be one more thing to worry about among many many garden things. So I may actually skip the pollen collection, I'd want to atleast try the KC-45 strain as a finished product before cross-breeding it into my OG, plus the ruderalis gene would be diluted down to 1/5 strength since the Hong Kong OG is a triple cross between OG, Sensi Star, and Sour Diesel...

The "stringy things" you mentioned are called "Stipules" which are photosynthetic plant extrusions that aid the growth of very tender and new growth coming out of the internode points, a lot of new growers misinterpret that is being pistils, but they are not...

Nice I would love to have some pollen to breed with sorry bout the males though lol

No need to be sorry, males are always to be expected with regular seeds :thumb:

you want a good ratio of male to female Mr. Flex when ken estes has more gdp seeds try thos
out of 3 I messed up one seed and got 2 males I have 1 left and its not available at this time
im afraid to pop it
Happy Tokerday Relaxed :thumb:

Aloha! Happy Tokerday to you too! ;)

Here is some information I'm quoting from Herbies, pretty interesting to read, the way they wrote it is probably why I purchased the seeds in particular, wanted something exactly like what they described to fit into a winter experiment, so far so good...:reading420magazine:

"The KC 45 strain of medical marijuana is a unique hybridization between Ruderalis and Sativa strains. Specifically, Russian Ruderalis is crossed with Brazilian Sativa. Cannabis Ruderalis is a subspecies, like Indica and Sativa, that is unique to Russia. Ruderalis strains are known to "autoflower", meaning they automatically begin flowering when they reach a certain age as predetermined by genetics. In other words, Ruderalis strains of cannabis do not begin flowering based on the number of light hours per day as do Indica and Sativa strains. KC 45 is such a naturally strong performer that she will even grow big, sticky, aromatic bud colas even in cloudy, nearly-sunless locales.
The Brazilian Sativa in KC 45 ensures that she packs a crisp, lucid head high to go along with her otherwise Indica-like buzz. Although she grows much better outdoors, KC 45 cannabis can also be grown under HID and LED lights. However, she is better outdoors as she tends to grow into a Christmas tree-shaped plant as tall as 7 feet. Regular reports of 3-pound+ yields, per outdoor plant harvested, are reported. Bud colas commonly measure up to a meter-long! The colas themselves are not very tight, but are compact. Individual buds are Sativa-slim and loaded with strong scents of lemon, especially when touched, ground or cut into.

The uplifting high of the KC 45 marijuana strain will hit you like a locomotive when you intelligently toke her. The Ruderalis acts to mellow the buzz a bit, making you feel less hyper than a straight-Sativa strain would. So, you end up calm, yet enlivened; pain-free and energetic too! "

Ahh, I didn't consider the auto genes being there. I've never done any breeding, but if I do, I may do any male kc45s, and let ya know how it goes. I still got a lot to learn though, because so far, I've pretty much freaked out any time a male appeared.:yikes: At the same time, after killing males :rip:I always feel sad and guilty.:sorry:
