Relaxed's Outdoor Medical Grow - 2016

Well, the time has come to harvest the beautiful Underdawg. The buds grow small on her, similar to a kush, and nothing like the big colas that the Swiss Cheese puts out. Anyway, she is just so beautiful, but it has to be done! The smells coming off her are very pungent to say the least. It is also nice to have a strain that is basically ready to harvest a little bit before the other ones, that way harvesting is not a nightmare and can be done in waves.

So first I will harvest the Underdawg today, then I'll wait a couple more days. The buds actually put on some decent swelling & ripening since the pics 2 days ago, but I'm planning to have everything harvested before the rains come in about 4-5 days.

Time to collect the bounty

UD has been fully harvested and my god the buds are unbelievable. Floral clusters are nicely swollen and the flavors coming off are inexplicably pungent. Now it's time to decide which plant to harvest next. :volcano-smiley:

These aren't the best pics but hopefully it serves the purpose :) Like I said, my Underdawg seems to put smaller flowers out, but boy are they made up for in the flavor and strength department.

A few more pics of the de-boned Underdawg, almost ready to go into a jar in a few hours. So impressed with this strain, if only you could get a whiff of her. :yummy:

Humidity is rising as an area of low pressure moves in. Rain chances starting tomorrow and will last ~4 days. That makes today harvest day for the entire spring crop. Good news is that these are really nice and properly ripened buds. Time to collect the bounty during this crucial harvest window. Will post pics of the piles in a couple days time.

Aloha :volcano-smiley:

It's coming our way too...only expect two days though this week-end. I wish I had piles of bud to look at, but I have to be really patient. The outside girls are all at different stages of flowering so once I start harvesting it should be continual for two or three weeks :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thank you mates! :thanks: I can't tell you how happy I am that I harvested everything yesterday. It's been raining on and off all day, and the storms are going to really starting moving in this weekend. Talk about good luck (or proper planning ;)). It was definitely time for those plants to be harvested. Yesterday was THE perfect day in terms of ripeness and getting to them before any wasting could occur via rot.

Well, with such beautiful plants, there is always some small "downside". I found 2 little budworms, however they did not actually cause any damage, I noticed that they were merely holding up residence to cacoon. I found no worm waste or bud rot whatsoever, so I can safely say those 2 worms did not live their life in the bud, they probably swung in to find a cozy place to morph. It was very hard to find them, their only sign was the bit of silk webbing I found, I used my handy-dandy icepick to skewer them out nice and clean. Based on my further inspections I did not find anything, either rot or worm signs.

Bud washing went excellent, as yesterday was a clear sunny day - typical of Spring. As always, I use the SNS-311, which I have begun to appreciate. Definitely a great product for budwashing, especially if you don't want to squeeze lemons or scoop baking soda :thumb:

Cheers

Bud washing went excellent,
We outside guys have to stay vigilant for sure! I have rosemary and oregano growing in my beds, they seem to keep the pests away. I have had the green worms invade one of my plants 3 years ago before the rosemary and oregano, none since. JTG told me of his way to handle mold/rot Alcohol and Hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swab. He swears by it. Glad to hear you got the girls harvested before the rain.
I never tried bud washing, but have been reading some about it.
Good growing!

Hozona - the rubbing alcohol/hydrogen peroxide does work for stem rot, or external patches of mold on the stems, however is incompatible for buds that have rot inside of them. I've also minimized my worm problems since I've been spraying and watering with azamax. When you live inside a butterfly "preserve" it can be hard to keep them pest free ;) We have a lot of herbs too, trust me, and this helps a bit, but there is only so much it can help when you have a mother moth on the hunt for a delectable place to lay their eggs. The only reason I've (for the most part) solved my worm problem is because of dear OMM's past hot-tip to use the azamax, and boy has it worked wonders. :thanks:

CS - it's a concentrated solution, you pour a little bit of it into the wash bucket and stir it around, then of course utilize the secondary rinse bucket :thumb:

However SNS-311 can also be used during the growth cycle to help clean the leaves of dust/residue/spores,etc. I don't usually spray it on flowers, but it works great for cleaning the plants during vegetation, presumably it helps relieve "oxidative stress" that the plant cells may feel. But I basically only use it to wash my buds. :surf:
